  • The icons of Windows 8 in endangered and the taskbar does not

I bought a HP with Windows 8 p7-1587cdPC desktop computer is installed.  I noticed that the desktop icons disappear when the pc would go to sleep.  The to-do bar displays icons, and when I go, it shows in a little window that the page should be, but don't develop open to display the screen.

I tried right click and selection and deselection of to display icons on the desktop, but it does not work.

I tried to do a right click on the start menu that appears on the lower left to the sfc scan, but when I click on the (Admin) command, there is a sound notification, and my screen fades and does nothing.  I must leave to return to the desktop.

On the start menu, I'm able to get on the internet, but none of the programs installed on my pc will open.

Also, I tried to return my pc in case there was a flaw.  I replaced with a brand new and have the same problems (sorry Costco).

The only thing that worked is if I stop every time I'm done working, as long as I don't let it go to sleep.  Help!

    Hi Qudico,

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community and we are pleased to help you on this question.

According to the description of the problem, you are unable to open the icons on the taskbar and access programs installed on the computer of the start screen.

You may need to check if the drivers on the computer are up-to-date.

Given that this problem occurred in a new computer, I suggest you to contact HP to update drivers currently installed on the computer.

Note: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    Hope that helps.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have other questions related to Windows and we would be happy to help you.

  • Error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file' when try to play wav or midi files.

Original title: WMP "can't play wav or midi.

Using WMP 11 on Windows XP SP3.

Windows Media Player has somehow forgotten how to play wav or midi files. Doubleclicking either of these file types give an error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. " There is a button 'Close' and 'Web Help' which still informs me, "you met the C00D1199 error message... ". ». Following the advice given nothing less than useful.

I can easily play these files with RealPlayer or VLC so I don't think it's a driver problem, and it wasn't a corruption right after installing the other players. WMP seems to work OK when playing music or AVI. And there is no harm to hear a sound (wav or midi) in Windows for various system events. Have already uninstalled/reinstalled WMP without result.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have since determeined the problem comes from an updated codec package I installed a few weeks ago. These codecs were from Shark007 which I believe is a Microsoft MVP. Use the codecs from this site for a number of years without any problems so I did not initially suspect it was the source of the problem. I uninstalled the codec pack and installed K-light package and everything seems to be Ok now. Now, I'll be in contact with the members of this forum.

  • the RealPlayer download button does not show the download of jeuvideode using Windows XP and explorer8

the RealPlayer download button does not show downloading a video using Windows XP and explorer8

    Hello lailaanis

First of all exit Internet Explorer. If you want to enable the download button when you hover over a video in Internet Explorer 8 you must go to tools > Preferences > download and save. Then to fix your problem, first UNCHECK the checkbox enable Web download and record in the window right under download and recording options, click OK. Then the Real Player output.

Now, open Real Player again, follow the steps as tools > Preferences > download and record and this time this BOX called Web download and registration. Click OK and real player output.

Now open Internet Explorer and visit any favorite video link and the download box will now appear.

You can also use other services like http://www.keepvid.com/ to download videos from sites of common videos easily in different quality formats which can be played in Real Player.

    Hope that answers your question.

I just bought Windows 7 upgrade Windows Vista. I get the error message: operation is not supported on this platform. What should I do to get this latest version in my computer?

Have you tried to do an upgrade installation or a custom installation?  A custom installation requires you to back up your files and settings with Windows Easy Transfer and then reinstall everything after installing the new.  If an update install does not install work, you need to do a custom.

In addition, a Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade will not work and you get a message from a platform if you have bought a UA and tried to use it with Vista.  Vista upgrade requires a detail, a copy in the Windows 7 box.

I understand that this has been a matter of repetition and I made the suggestions listed and nothing works. I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Windows Vista Home. Any suggestions? What should I chahnge how I download and save music?

    Hey Taylor09,

You may find that you are getting this message in Windows Media Player due to one of the following reasons.

    a. you try to play a file that is not supported by the player.

    b. you are trying to play a file that the player does not support, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the player.

    Step 1:

Confirm that you are trying to play a supported file type. The following article lists the types of files (formats) supported by Windows Media Player.

Information on the types of media files that supports Windows Media Player

Note that if you tried to play the file type is included in this table, the file might have been encoded with a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player. If this is the case, Windows Media Player cannot play the file.

    Step 2:

Download the necessary codec to play the file.

For more information of Codec, see: Codecs: frequently asked questions
