    Hi Archanan,

Welcome to the Forum of answers Windows Vista.

I suggest to place the computer in a clean boot state and then try to install the updates. One of the services of third parties may interfere with the installation of updates.

To put the computer in a clean boot state, follow these steps:

    1. Log the computer by using an account with administrator rights.
    2. Click Start , type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.
    3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
    1. On the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the Load Startup items check box. (The box use the Boot file is not available.)
    2. On the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click disable all.

Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    3. Click OK, and then click restart.

After your computer restarts, try to install the updates.

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. Click Start , type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.
    2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
    1. On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
    2. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

If the clean boot does not work, follow the steps in the link below:
