Windows 7 USB Flash drive - if I click on Scan and difficulty after you insert the disk, it erases my files

Original title: Windows 7 USB/Flash drive problems

In Windows 7, if I plug in my USB drive, the message box appears titled ' do you want to scan and difficulty of removable disk (e :))?»  If I click on Scan and Fix, he deletes my files (or so I thought).  I hope that the files are still there and I have simply can't see because the drive is FAT32 and not NTFS (it says that most of the drive is NOT of free space, so I assume that the files are still there).  What should I do to see / access files?

Note: A reader, I never selected "Scan and repair"... so I can still see/access files.
On the other drive, however, the first time I plugged it on Windows 7, I clicked Scan and Fix and it erased all the files on this drive (I guess).  This of course got me very angry.

Hi MichaelGramm,

It seems that the file format has been corrupted. You might consider formatting the drive in NTFS file system and check if this solves the problem. For Windows 7, the best choice for hard disks is NTFS.

Note: Make sure that you back up the data before formatting the disk.

See these articles for more information on formatting disks and flash player:

Create and format a hard disk partition

Formatting disks and drives: frequently asked questions

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/formatting-disks-and-drives-frequently-asked-questions

Caution:

Formatting erases all existing files on a flash drive. If you format a flash disk that has files on it, the files will be deleted.

Hope this information helps.

    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

According to the request, I understand that your system is unable to recognize the F: drive after inserting a disc. I appreciate your efforts to solve this problem.

The issue could be due to one of the following reasons - the drive might be bad, might have a cable loose or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Given the clicking of the drive I suggest you to clean the optics on the drive by wiping with a barely damp q-tip.

If there is a possibility of cables in bulk. I suggest to remove the power supply, then make sure that the cables at both ends. Remove and replace firmly. For laptops, you can often clean power and contacts data with a pencil eraser.

    1. Open the Control Panel.
    2. Click on Device Manager and select CD/DVD.
    3. Double click on the drivers tab.
    4. Click update drivers and right click on the Uninstalldisk.
    5. Reboot- it will refresh the default driver stack.

  • OPTION TO DELETE FAST WINDOWS 7 USB FLASH DRIVES INCLUDE SOME EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES?

A few years ago, when I switched to smaller hard drive 640 GB HP pocket of Sandisk USB key I used the "Quick removal" option of Windows 7. "Fast moving" option includes the "Pocket reader." The reason for the request is when a Pocket drive is connected, and I right click, go through the process of menu to find the "Quick shift" box to check, it is not available. Is there a way to safely remove external hard drives without going through the routine "eject safely. Drives external hard should they be ejected safely or are "hot" or "n"playing card"or are they covered under the option"fast moving "?

    Basil,

    Thanks for your reply.

Since my first question on this topic yesterday, I have since rediscovered the path that I took two years ago to upgrade my computers in a mode of "quick release". Affecting the computers 'Fast moving' allows me to plug the device I want to use, open the file and when you're done just to remove the USB device without formally engaging the button 'Remove the device safely' at the bottom right of the screen. The option "Fast moving" indicates it where you make your selection. That's my experience of the option "Fast moving" includes the small Sandisk readers of thumb size and big HP 640GO type readers of external pocket. I used this method for the readers of 640GO Pocket nearly two years on a daily basis with two separate HP and assorted small Sandisk flash drives. Here are the instructions to activate the "Quick removal" option, I got:

    (a) Connect USB or external storage device

    (b) click on 'computer '.

c device), right click (the item you just plug it in)

    (d) click 'properties '.

    (e) click on "hardware".

    (f) to find the device you just plug in the list, and then click to open

    (g) click on the button 'change settings '.

    (h) click on tab 'Strategies '.

    (i) select the "Quick removal" option (default)

    (j) click on 'OK '.

Before applying this option, I was using the option 'Remove the device safely' has not always allow me to eject safely. Many times I reboot with the element always connected to try another withdraw safely. That's my experience from two years of consistent "hot swapping" or "chart n"play"according to the method of the"rapid withdrawal"with all of the data still intact.

    Hi all

I formatted my laptop some time ago. Now I want to reinstall windows vista (came along with my laptop). The thing is due to a problem that my CD drive does not work so I would like to install windows vista by using a USB key. Can you get it someone please let me know if this is possible... If Yes, how I've go ahead make a bootable USB.

As someone can tell me if there is a way to retrieve the WINDOWS KEY from the recovery disc.

    Thank you.

    Hello

This can help, but you will need a Vista system to create the working bootable USB key:http://www.askvg.com/how-to-create-bootable-usb-drive-to-install-windows-vista/

As for the product key, it should be on a sticker on the laptop (usually on the bottom). If it is not readable, contact the manufacturer for further assistance. As we said already, the product key is not on the installation disc.

Replace broken laptop optical drives is not too difficult, you can see this as another option.

  • Windows does not recognize the USB flash drive

    Hello
My USB does not work when I plug. It seems that Windows recognizes the device because it is found in the Solution Explorer window, but if I want to create a folder or a file on the USB key I have the following message:
    "Cannot find this article.
It is no longer in < %3="" null :="" optext=""> . Check the location of the components and try again. " < br=""> also the files that are copied to the USB flash drive are not visible in Explorer and it looks like the drive is empty.

I want to emphasize that the same (Kingston) USB flash drive works perfectly under Windows XP operating system on another computer so it may not be a problem with the device. The same problem also appears when you use a different USB (another manufacturer).

    Thank you!

    Hey, 101 a.

, I just posted a fix I found for my USB flash/go to work again.  It was a very simple solution, too.

I unplugged all USB devices first, then tried my USB jump drive again.  IT WORKED! I've narrowed the problem to the new printer that I use.  It's a Mono Dell Laser MFP 1125.  Whenever it is plugged into a USB port, my USB doesn't work.  All other devices work, but not the USB is the printer is connected

I don't know what done to block the flash/USB key, but unplug printer allows the jump command to work again.  I will contact Dell on what did the printer driver to block the flash player.  Just an info on the fix I found.

  • USB flash drive shows only not in Windows Explorer.

    Hello

I looked through all the other posts of undetectable usb flash drives but not talked about "Device Manager", where I can see the "F:" drive - I know not how to access because its not visible anywhere else.

It is a simple flash 4 GB dongle, I'm on Windows 7 - it used to work properly and appear in my computer, but this isn't all of a sudden. It does not appear on other computers, but I can see it under ' devices and printers under "Mass Storage Device" - and "navigation files" gives me a gray would be on "removable disk F:"

Have a formatting or something by accident or changed a setting that makes it invisible. Or is it just screwed!

  • A movie can be stored on a usb flash drive?

I would you ask my camcorder recorded videos, currently stored in Photos, iMovie, and the camcorder on a USB flash drive SD card so I can read in my car on the navigation screen. How can I upload videos to a USB key?

Yes, you can store movies on your USB.  Probably the easiest way is to drag the movies.  USB drives which are formulated FAT 32, as most of them, are limited to 4 GB in size for any single file.  Would be good to try with a movie just to make sure that your USB will play your

navigation screen of the car in any way you are intending to do.

  • Laptop HP 17 p100: how the usb flash drive big that I have to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

How the big usb flash drive do I need to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

    Yes

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

There is really no way accurately guess in advance, with one of the reasons being that the options are available when you do this.  An option creates a recovery drive minimum with what is needed to repair the operating system.  Another option creates an image that is able to completely restore the operating system and its partition.  Thus, the size can vary from 4 GB to the size of the partition to the OS.

Myself, I found as build-in recovery to be unreliable, especially those of Ms.  So instead, I use a third-party imaging/restoration solution known as Macrium Reflect.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

My experience is that SIR, when you use the option of Compression high, typically allows to compress the image file recorded at about 50% of the space USED in the OS partition.  This means that if you have a 40GB and 80GB OS partition is used, MR must only about 20 GB to store the image file.

I use all the time and it usually takes less than 10 minutes to make the backup of the image and at the same time or less do a restore.  In addition, MR has the ability to add a recovery Boot Menu entry.  This then allows you to boot into Windows re, and then you can use it to do a restore - when you cannot start Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

In order to manage the partitions on a hard disk in Windows XP Home edition, I use disk management, which allows me to set sizes of partition and DISKPART, which allows me to CLEAN the MBR or the whole disc. No idea why I need both.
