  Problem solved!  An external hard drive, powered by a separate power supply, was not turned on, but it was plugged into a USB port. When the computer "seen" this cross-town 'dead', he just stop - but no message appears problem.

  The good part?  Vaced out all the dust and replace the bios battery.  [I'm good for at least another 2 years;-]

  Maybe your Windows operating system is confusing upward.

  The initial problem was that the PC did not go beyond the page of Windows to start upward. So I had to do an installation of the Dell windows XP disk repair. But I couldn't boot from the CD, (even after changing in the system BIOS boot order) to work around this problem, so I had to disable the boot on the other upward options being - HDD, USB etc. so only if it start from the disc.

  After completing the first part of the repair facility, the PC restarted to complete the second part of the installation, however I got an error message "the Kernel32.dll file is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the checksum calculated.

  After some research, I solved this problem by using the windows recovery console to extract a new copy of the kernel32.dll from the windows XP disc. It seemed to work. The second part of the window repair facility restarted successfully, but now the problem is it will not complete installation, it gets stuck/not will not go beyond the 26 minute mark during the phase of "complete installation."

  It has been full of hiccups. I'm not a person of computer tech at all, but have managed to get so far at this stage.  Can someone please please help, very much appreciated.

  When presentation settings are turned on, your mobile PC stays awake and system notifications are turned off. I would not advice you constantly running in presentation mode because it does not allow your computer becomes idle (and display the screen saver) even when you do not do anything. He probably solved your problem because one of your application does not perform certain actions as before, because it's always 'think' that your computer is not idle.

  You should do something like this: check the settings for these two applications: Vaio update and Trend Micro (probably you can get there after right-clicking on the icon in the notification area and choose the appropriate context menu position).   For some reason, Microsoft programs, I have installed on my Macbook Pro, including word, excellent and powerpoint, will not be full screen in their own office tabs.  When you click on the button to decompress the file in its own tab office + Green, the window covers just everything that is on the current tab.  Here is a screenshot attached.  The screenshot shows the «expanded» word document  In the past, when you click on the green button, it would be fully filtered file on its own tab.  Any ideas on the cause and a fix?  This only happens with Microsoft programs.

  Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers forum.  Well, since the problem started with the Norton update then you can check with the help of Norton to see if they have seen this problem before.  You can try to perform a System Restore.  If that is not correct the problem then it can come down to remove Norton and then put it back.

  I am running windows 7 64 bit and now when I go fullscreen mode I can't click ESC to exit back to the normal display. I remember I accidentally right click and choose the global settings in the menu options, but haven't selected what whether closed this window immediately.   Hi, you could try F11 or alt + tab Alt + tab will open another window and then maybe one with full screen can be exited.

  Not sure about the latter, but worth a try. I don't know why esc would not work, but I don't think that the Global Settings Panels would have something to do with it.
