Windows 7 - Windows key or Alt + Tab does not

I have Windows 7 Home Edition, and suddenly my Alt + Tab feature has stopped working.  I use it regularly, so I don't know what I did to disable.  In addition, my Windows (the one next to the left Alt key) key stops working to bring up the Start Menu.

The Windows key still works because when I press Windows + 3, it loads Google Chrome because it is the third in the taskbar...  Tab key works alone as well I use it to switch between the boxes username and password on log ons.
I can't do not also appear in the windows program by clicking on the icons in the taskbar, taskbar icon won't turn on and flashes, but the actual program window is not pop up. I have to press the Desktop button on the right side of the taskbar to minimize everything and then bring up the desired program window.
I've been shooting a few changes to my Windows 7 because I wanted to accelerate and I followed this Web site: http://www.computingunleashed.com/speed-up-windows-7-ultimate-guide-to.html
I was also disabling some of the Start Up programs and services to speed up / save the battery power.  Is there a specific Service Microsoft need to Alt Tab functionality and the Windows key to work?
Thanks in advance.
Hello
  • Is it on laptop or desktop?
If it happens on the desktop, you can try to connect the keyboard to the computer of differnet and check.

If it happens on your laptop, you can try to create a new user account and check. If it works in a new user account, then probably your user account have been damaged and would need a fix.

Now search for the question.
Follow the link provided below to fix the damaged user profile.

  • Windows flashes when scrolling on in the task bar, Alt - Tab does not.

OK it drives me absolutely crazy. for these past few weeks, my taskbar and alt - tab has been broken. When I move the taskbar of the program im trying to open just blinks but never actually maximizes.  I noticed that it only flashes I have my cursor over the icon. But if I leave it right on it to open its own it never made. Alt - Tab is also the exact same thing (which makes me assume that the question is related.) I click on buttons and pop-up windows, but does not open anything.

I looked around and I know that this question emerged with a reliablitiy of windows there are few up-to-date kb977074, but wasn't in my update list. SO I now have no idea what to do. Ive played around with the parameters monitored for defective or damaged files, and really, I don't want to have to do a system restore. especially since ive restored my computer and he was doing it before I updated. so... ideas would be very appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :)

    Hello

    Welcome to Microsoft Community forum.

I would be grateful if you can provide us with the following information to help us better understand the issue.

    1. You have installed all the programs, application or updated before the show?
    2. How did you check the defective or damaged your system files?
    3. Do you receive an error message or error code while using the taskbar?

Try it out below mentioned methods and see if it works for you.

    Method 1

Try to perform a full scan of your computer using Security Microsoft Scanner.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Method 2

If the problem persists, I suggest to check the integrity of the system and for this you may need to run the SFC (System File Checker).

Scan SFC will be scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click OK.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

  • Alt + Tab does not not in world of warcraft

    Hi StephenRicker,

    Remember to make changes?

  • Found a solution for Alt Tab does not

This isn't a question but a solution that took me about a month to find.  Always found Alt Tab to change the programs does not work, and when I flew over the bar at the bottom of the screen, the picture postage stamp of the application would be flashes on once before disappearing.  Sometimes, I could simply not an application open to maximize.

Usually I use my HP laptop to a workstation, but when using it in another place, noted that the problem had disappeared.  Figured there was something on the workstation.  Tried to return to the job and work through a process of trial and error found was a Logitech USB Skype speaker.  It is a fairly old model - may 2007 - I got as a freebee when I bought a PC.  It does seem like Windows 7.  Disconnected and there is no other problem.

    Hope this helps someone else.

We all love the good old Windows Alt + Tab feature to quickly switch between open windows. Although Windows Vista and Windows 7 provide Flip 3D feature to switch between open windows, most of the users of love again Alt + tab feature.

If you regularly use Alt + Tab feature, then here is a small utility to fine tune. Alt + Tab Tuner is a small tool to tweak Alt + tab with ease settings.

With Alt + Tab Tuner we can twist Alt + tab margins, grid inches, spacing, icon shift and size, size of thumb and transparency. In addition, it also lets switch you to the old Alt + Tab dialog.

  • ALT - tab does not recognize a program

I use Windows 7 Alt - Tab to navigate between open windows. I recently started to use Cognos Insight. I see an icon on the taskbar, but not in the Alt - Tab list. It is a way I can make Windows recognize it is open?

    Anne

Never mind. Apparently, it was because I was in the middle of an import. Once I get back to the main window, Cognos Insight appeared on my list of Alt - Tab.

  • Windows 7 - Ctl Alt o does not switch of the PS at the bridge

This a fairly new release, so may have some bugs installation to iron out, but when I first open Photoshop I can use Ctrl Alt o to open the bridge.  From there I can use the same shortcut to return to Photoshop, but from there I can no longer switch back to bridge.  I can see the brief of mouse cursor change to busy, so something that happens, but it stays on the screen in Photoshop.  The bridge on the Options in Photoshop toolbar icon the same answer.  Here, I can see the cursor mode busy for a while, but there is in Photoshop.

If I go to the bridge by clicking on the icon in the bar of tasks, or do scroll through the open windows with Aero, I can come back to Photoshop using Ctrl Alt o as usual.

All my Adobe apps are up-to-date, as are my drivers and the customer above cannot be erased with a reboot of the system.  I guess that's not life and death, but that's the way I used to work and switching between the PS and the bridge, so I would like to address them.

    Windows 7 Professional

    X 79 - UD5

    3930 K I7

    32 GB of DDR3 memory

    GeForce GTX 570

    Other Adobe applications:

    Premiere Pro CS5

    inDesign CS5

Lightroom 3 (which I use never!)

Thank you Curt.  Yes I have been using the shortcut for years.  I can't yet say with certainty that he used to work with this system, because I traded only on him a week ago.  I think that there is a hint that I see the cursor change to this small blue annimated ring for a while, so he's trying to do something.  She just can't.

HEY!  I just fixed it.  I closed the bridge icon that loads as a background to the start-up process and sits in the icon hidden popup Windows in the taskbar.  Then I used the Ctrl Alt o in Photoshop and it reported a problem and asked if I wanted to reset the Bridge preferences.  I said yes, and now he flips back without problem.  I think I'll do with some real now :-(

  • CTL-alt-del does not launch the Manager of tasks, but since the taskbar, "start Task Manager" is. The 'Windows key' + n, where n is M, E, F, etc also fails to do something? Teacher of Win7 64-bit. Any ideas?

CTL-alt-del is not launch task manager, but the fact Task Manager start from the taskbar.  The 'Windows key' + n, where n is E, M, F, etc also fails to do anything?  Teacher of Win7 64-bit.  Malwarebytes found nothing, neither did a full scan with MSE. There is some malware on board?  Where can I find it? Any ideas?

    Chris

CTRL-Alt-Del does not bring upward the more after XP Task Manager - it brings up a different menu options:

The options presented are also slightly configurable via Group Policy, if your system is equipped with:

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/customize-ctrlaltdel-screen-Windows-7-Group-Policy

You can kind of 'test' on your keyboard with a built in Screen-Keyboard Windows.

All programs, accessories, ease of access, Screen-Keyboard.

When you press a key on the keyboard, it should light up on the screen keyboard on (by pressing Ctrl):

Of course, we don't know anything about your system (desktop, laptop, keyboard, PS/2, USB, wireless wired keyboard) so you may need to see if another keyboard works, another USB port, batteries, etc...

  • CTRL Alt Del does not work Windows 2015 10 rMBP

    Hi all

I have a MacBook Pro for Windows 10 15 "Bootcamped retina.

CTRL Alt Del does not, any more than the function keys (brightness, mute, etc.).

I tried to manually reinstall the keyboard driver. It installs ok but does not solve the problem.

On Reddit, a user suggested that another user with the same problem should do a Bootcamp driver repair.

However, when I go in the Bootcamp Assistant I get only the possibility to restore the volume.

My best guess is that the Bootcamp Driver repair fix it if I could access.

Does not mention that this is the model of 2015.

  • I upgraded to latest version firefox 29,0 in windows machine 7. All the user interface looks very good. Undo close tab does not work for me. Is that not been addressed?

Undo Close tab does not work in windows 7 for firefox latest version 29,0

You can do this via CTRL + SHIFT + T as well.

You can try to start Firefox in Mode safe to see if Firefox works correctly without error? You can start Firefox in Mode safe below:

    • Windows/Mac: choose Help > restart with disabled modules
    • Linux: run firefox-safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens fine with no problems, it is probably one of your extensions that is causing the problem. You can reactivate your modules one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem to be re-activated.

  • Ctrl-alt-del does not not to connect even in windows xp safe mode

I use a laptop Toshiba with windows xp, when I turn on the computer and the logon window lights to use fingerprint recognition or press ctrl-alt-del to log on, we have not configured footprint so always supported the ctrl-alt-delete and then password screen lights up.  Now I can't before the logon window by pressing ctrl-alt-delete.  It doesn't do anything.  I tried in safe mode, but also need to log in safe mode and ctrl-alt-del does not work in SafeMode either.  Have tried pressing Ctrl-alt-delete twice and much more, still nothing.  Have you tried ctrl-shift-esc Ctrl-alt-del before and no luck.  Thank you!

    Hello

I suggest you to start the computer by using the last known good configuration feature and check if it helps:

  • Window of alt - tab will not stay above other windows in Windows 7

When I do an alt - tab in Windows 7, if I change constantly window (by pressing alt and quickly by clicking tab), it will be in Peek mode.  Normally, I'm expecting the alt - tab window to stay on top, when comes the Peek, but instead of this, my little alt - tab window disappears behind the windows being presented by the look.  I can still scroll through windows by pushing alt - tab, but my window has disappeared.  When I tried this on someone else the Windows 7 box, it has not done this.

I recently started having this problem.

In my case, I narrowed down it to the Windows Gadgets (i.e. sidebar.exe). Once I have closed all my gadgets, the problem disappeared. Otherwise, when I killed sidebar.exe, the problem disappeared.

  • Key ESC Office keyboard does not work on desktop running Windows 7 Pro 64 x

Key ESC Office keyboard does not work on desktop running Windows 7 Pro 64 x

Now, it's a boring, which several other users have reported under different threads. Because I couldn't find a post with quite similar symptoms, I made my own topic.

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 x on an old one (Intel Quad-Core, 4 GB RAM, 524 GB HDD - in case, for reasons unknown to me, someone needs to know it...) , DellXPS system. Not more than a few weeks ago my home button keyboard unresponsive on this system.

I did a lot of troubleshooting, but these measures have been carried out:
    * Tested keyboard on the other system, touch ESC WORKS on the other system
    * Reinstalled keyboard and USB drivers on the XPS system, ESC key does NOT WORK on the XPS system
    * Connected to a never-before-used USB keyboard, ESC key does NOT WORK on the XPS system
    * Opened and cleaned the keyboard, tested, Escape key WORKS, Don't DO NOT WORK on the XPS system
    * Tested in various applications: Desktop (Esc will close the start menu), Photoshop, Vegas, Notepad, games full screen OpenGL,Escape key does NOT WORK on the XPS system
    * Google for possible solutions, none found...

Note: Highlights show where the ESC key does not work. I am troubled by the XPS system.

In case you missed it my list of troubleshooting steps, the ESC key works on another computer of Windows 7 system.

I have to still garble my self through the registry in the hope that someone might have an idea of the steps to follow before I lose a day to see the things that I honestly know squat. Please help if you can; What could be the issue/common application that separates this key in the Windows world and how could I solve this problem?

    Thank you in advance!

    For reference,.
No major changes have been made since the keyboard unresponsive with the exception of:
Updates to FireFox (including modules Ad-Block Plus, NoScript, which have also been updated).
    Windows Update
A 10.x MB World of Warcraft patch/update on a keyboard AFTER week unresponsive

Already installed the patches StarCraft II and World of Warcraft, which none touched my keyboard to my knowledge. I finished almost all of StarCraft II and had no problems...

I know it's a bit old, but I was living the question myself.  Thought I had found the problem and it was fixed but then it happened again.  Came to find out (by closing a program and test the ESC key) it's because Photoshop.

With the help of Photoshop, which could match the case you mention.  Not only that but I did a search ('ESC' does not not Photoshop) and stumbled on some answers/solutions workaround for it.  One is to use SHIFT + ESC ESC does not work.

Hope this helps someone.  I fell it using my original research ("Windows 7" BSE "ESC" keyboard does not) and know that others are likely to see.  If you have not already learn the cause, in the year + since your original message, then voila.
