Windows 7 - XP Virtualization

I upgraded to Win Pro to be able to use XP for College, I get a hardware error on a switch in the BIOS that must be activated. I looked for it and my laptop DELL Inspiron 1545 does not. Is there anyway that I can do this without having to buy a new PC?

Thanks for any help.

Before moving to Win7 Pro, have you checked to make sure that your taken Dell computer hardware supported XP Mode & virtualization?

Refer to the section is AMD - V or Intel VT a must - have to run Windows Virtual PC? here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/faq.aspx

However, Windows Update has nothing to with the upgrade of Windows or by activating the XP Mode. Please post future questions about the upgrade in this forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads

I did some tests for you and posted them and a text on the results, to the blog:

  • Free virtualization software takes supported Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system?

    People,

Hello. I need to install the Windows 7 host virtualization software, and then install Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

VMware Workstation supports Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system, but it's not free download.

People know that supports virtualization software free Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system invited?

    Thanks in advance.

As I said in your previous post, VMWare Player is a free download and does not support Win7 as host and Win2k3 as a guest.  VMWare Player is also included with VMWare Workstation, you can imply that most of the time something that supports VMWare Workstation as a guest operating system is also a guests supported for the reader.

And unlike previous versions, player 3 includes the ability to create virtual machines base.  For many people, especially those who are starting just in virtualization, player is sufficient.

VMWare Workstation, although not free, can be installed as a 30 day trial.  After the trial, you can not start your virtual machines in my computer, but because the player is included in the installation, you can still run your virtual machines in the drive without having to uninstall anything.  So just install Workstation.  After the trial expires, if you wish that the advanced features of the workstation, then buy it.  If not, just continue to use the drive.

  • R2 Windows 2012-2012

I have a server with Windows 2012 standard and complete his license.  I want to rebuild it with r2 2012.  My existing license key will activate r2 or I have to buy an upgrade?

It does not work like that. Windows Server 2012 R2 is a complete operating system, it does not accept your current key.

You can post your future questions in the The Forums TechNet. The community, it is better suited to answering questions for Windows Server, deployment, virtualization, etc..

  • I installed a new game for Pc windows 7 & I got the support of the United Nations, is at - it software to install to run all the games correctly?

I installed a new game for Pc windows 7 & I got the support of the United Nations, is at - it software to install to run all the games correctly?

All games (or programs) are compatible with Windows 7. See the Web site of the Publisher of games for compatibility information.

Windows 7 has compatibility mode that peuvent leave some older games that would be otherwise incompatible for work. Please see:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows .

Very old games can contain 16 cold bits that will not work if you have 64-bit Windows 7 without Virtualization software.

What is the name of the game?

    Are you using windows 7 32 or 64-Bit? *

    * To see if you're running 32-bit or 64-Bit Windows click:

    Start-> Control Panel-> system

Then look at where it says, "System Type".

  • New to virtualization need advice please

    Hello community VMWARE.

I'll make as clear as possible, latetly at work (Local ISP) hosting game servers for our customers on servers dedicated small (Linux-based), I started as a cpu P4 with 512 MB Ram and nothing fancy, I hosted multiplayer games online, on these small physical servers games were running great and no problems so far , but with 5-6 servers of game so far these small servers are not manageable and difficult to develop, so put these ATX Desktop case in the server room takes too much space and it is not wise for future enlargement, so my boss asked me to virtualize, there has already been a few virtualized servers, it uses (vmware infrastructure web) He wanted to show me how effective it can be, in his web browser, he created a virtual machine and installed linux on it distribution and given 1 vCpu and 1 GB of vRam and I organized a game about this server, he is actually done as good as my physical servers (if not better).

Now, the dilemma is that my company will order a powerful double nice (Xeon Quad processor cores) with a large amount of Ram (8 or 12 GB order is not confirmed yet) this server will be dedicated to hosting game servers, and of course I'll have to get rid of all these small Desktop P4 servers and migrate to this new which gives the fact that some game servers runs on linux and other windows only, then virtualization is a must!

As mentioned before, my boss has a vamware product that it manages from a web interface (web vmware infrastructure), I want something similar I will be be split this power phisycal server into multiple virtual machines, I used Vmware workstation before and it is quite nice but in this case, I want something more professional and efficient and which balances the processors between the virtual machines in an effective way because the game servers relies more on the processor.

    I'm looking for mainly:

-A virtualization platform that sits directly on the server with no OS underliying.

-Controlled via the web interface (if it is possible, but not neccesarly).

-Better management of performance for processors

-Can run multiple operating systems (Linux and Windows) probably up to 5 instances of OS.

Which vmware product can fit the most? After watching and surf on your website, I thought maybe? ESXi? vSphere? VMware vcenter server or?

    Please advise and thank you.

It comes with the web interface, as well as the client interface installed. With purchase vcenter you can manage all hosts in a single screen and with additional features like vmware ha, vmotion, and etc. If you shared storage, and depending on the version you purchase.

looking for essential plus the package, it comes at a very low prices and with a maximum power of 3 guests 6cpu bundled license and 1 vcenter.

  • Why Overwatch does not not on all Apple computers?

Why Overwatch does not not on all Apple computers?

Because it runs on Windows and the authors have not written a version of OSX. You could set up "Boot Camp" and install Windows on that, then you can run it if your machine is capable (although it will not work on a Windows computer up-to-date). You can also install Windows in a 'virtualizer' such as Parallels, but it is quite unlikely that a complex game would run satisfactorily.

I think to the listing of my desktop Dell on a Mac computer, any recommendations? I work at home as an accountant, I use QuickBooks, and do some photo editing. Safety & security are my main concerns with the books that I keep. You have a lot of problems with the Mac Pro?

If you rely on quickbooks, you must run Windows, either using virtualization or training camp. Products Mac Intuit are horrible.

  • Nested VM

    Hello

We VSphere Version 5.1.0 Build 869765. I want to run HyperV a vmware (Ver9) machine.

I can't install the hyperV as long as windows reports that virtualization cpu is off. Following this community doc http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8970 I'm trying to tun on "Expose virtualization to the guest operating system support" under the CPU of the VMWARE machine, but the selections are greyed out. No idea why?  TIA

It seems that your vm is hardware version 8?

The community's doc said "virtualized HV is fully supported for hardware virtual version 9 virtual machines.

  • Virtual run Win Server 2008, Enterprise Edition on ESXI 4

    Hi all

I have MS Windows 2008 Enterprise Server that allows up to 4 Windows servers to run as VMs using the same VM license key. Can I run the server of Windows 4 VM on ESXi 4 platform using the same VM license key? I think that if MS allows the VM 4 of to run on their Hyper V Server 2008 then I am able to run the VM on ESXi 4, using the license key a VM.

    Thanks in advance.

    VinnyP

I think that it's evolving especially with Hyper-V now.  I think that there are some differences between people licenses but I'm the last Q / A on the virtual FAQ which is -

    Q. Windows Server 2008 virtualization licensing fees apply when used with non-Microsoft software virtualization technologies?

    A. Yes. Usage rights apply regardless of the virtualization product used. However, other than Microsoft software virtualization technologies are not supported by Microsoft. For more information about support policies, please see the following articles of the basis of knowledge Microsoft (KB):

I take that to mean licensing concepts apply whether you're running Hyper-V, ESX, Virtual PC or work/VM Workstation Server

Who knows with Microsoft, however, their reasoning is completely stupid and obviously tax based without thinking about anything through.
