Windows 8.1 update, my documents, and control panel questions

I have a laptop HP Envy m6 and a few weeks ago, put PC updated to Windows 8.1 Windows 8. It was working fine until yesterday.

When I open Explorer file it says that the 'My PC' folder is empty. Other times it works fine when the file Explorer is the first open but will not work if it is closed and reopened without restarting the computer. I also discovered that the Panel does not work. It opens but the window is empty. I can not access anything which would be normally accessed through the control panel as change the wallpaper, add or modify the equipment, etc.. Finally, with the exception files, icons indicating the type of file for example the Word Document, Pdf etc. do not appear when displayed in the file Explorer, but view correctly on the desktop computer. The computer works - I can access the internet, save, and create documents, but struggle to access later (if possible).

Thanks for your help.

NeedHelp55,

If the upgrade has been done for weeks, while the problem is probably not the upgrade itself, although something is certainly wrong since then.

Thoughts on the subject...

Windows updates

If you have not done recently (or at all) be sure that you have all of your updates to Windows Installer.  Some people are 'Anti update' and the world can be a scary place with updates that don't always work as planned.  You have not to install updates for Windows 8.1 after the upgrade - this isn't a choice.  You can always disable them again later.

==========================================================================

System Restore - back in time

If the system has recently installed updates, and then if the system has created a Restore Point before these updates applied, then you can "back track" to a date / time before the changes have been made.

Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)

Don't forget: you can create a Restore Point manually any time you want if you have these "back points."  This occasionally - it of a good thing and could save your back one of these days.  The smile.

==========================================================================

New user account

You could try to create a new account - create with administrator privileges, just in case you need the account later.

If you can get the PC settings, then you might be able to create a new account.

Long way around:

Windows key > type anywhere pc > click PC config > other accounts > add account

You can name the account that you want, and you can use with your current Microsoft account, login if you wish.  You may need to obtain a new Microsoft login code - you can use another device (phone, Tablet, another computer) to pick up the email containing the new code that will be sent to Microsoft.

Log in to the new account and put in place the "settings" for this account.  Check if the new account actually works as expected.

IF the new account is working and that your old account is messed up, then - use the new account, at least until you have one fix for the other.  You can always copy your documents.  Configure the settings for the account manually, however, to minimize the chances that 'break you' the new account.

  • Cannot open the illustration. There is not enough room for the window; increase the area of document and try again

    Hello

I'm under Illustrator CS6 on a Mac version 10.10.3. I created an Illustration and I accidentally did very little to save and close the window. Now whenever I open the file I get the error "unable to open the illustration. There is not enough room for the window; increase the area of document and try again. "This problem is specific to this file only - I can open all other correct files, and anyone who tries to open that particular file on a completely separate machine receives the same error. I read all the posts of people having the same error message, but their problem is different from mine because my problem is specifically limited to this file. I've trashed preferences, hidden and shown the toolbar Application and an open framework of other files and makes them great as possible, has the file open on the file menu, instead of double clicking, and none of these methods work.

    Can anyone help?

Thank you so much in advance!

Well, problem solved. For future users with this problem:

Alternatively, you can try to restore your computer to a point before the attack of Trojan with the Microsoft System Restore.

Go start > all programs > Accessories > system tool > system restore.

If the Trojan damaged your system to the point where you can't fix it, you may need to reload your OS using your HP Recovery Manager. Save all of your personal information. prior to this, as it will be deleted.

  • For XP Windows experience index. I can't find the SYSTEM MAINTENANCE AND after selecting the start and Control Panel.

I'm following the steps to display the score of our computer trying to open the performance and tools by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance , and then clicking Performance Information and Tools. However, I cannot locate the system and Maintenance icon so, therefore, cannot take place.  Maybe this does not apply to our computer?  Yes, we use IE8 and XP Professional.

Windows XP does not include Windows Experience Index. It is only available in Vista/Win7.

But there are other tests of performance that allows your computer to reference.

  • Problems with error Windows Audio and Control Panel "one or more of the audio service is not running.

I'm a bit of a technophobe, but I'll try to explain my problem, I got better.  I recently had a problem with Windows 8 and refreshed my system.  After refreshing, I installed AVG Anti-virus and that's where my problems really started.  After installing AVG I have no sound and my control panel usually pop up.  The box is displayed but there is nothing in it and it sorts just of sticks, frozen.  I tried the fixes recommended to fix my sound. The speaker in my taskbar icon has a red x on it and when I try to open it it goes right to the problem-solving mode, then comes up with "one or more of the audio service is not running.  When I try "run services.msc' and try to start Windows Audio through Services I get error 0x800706cc.  I tried to uninstall AVG and reboot, but it did make a difference.  Please help, this leads me to the madness now.  Nothing I try seems to work!

Installation of AVG is when the problems started, I would start by undoing that.  Since the normal uninstall did not help, use system restore to return to a work situation.  Check here and use the #1 option.

  • HP 15 Notebook: Audio issues and Control Panel

Hi, I have a laptop HP with Windows 8.1 15 and week ago I was going to watch a few videos and a bubble popped up saying that my audio device has been disabled or not installed device. at the same time, when I try to go to control panel, it brings up a window with a blank screen and is unresponsive. I have to use the Task Manager to close the window.  Using the search function, I can get into the Device Manager, but it says that my Realtek HD Audio device works properly.

I would try a system recovery, but the page change PC settings did the same as the control panel.

I use AVG and have performed a full scan with no threats found. I also Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scanner and I ran that as well with no threats found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

  • Vista freezing on the web and Control Panel

My laptop keeps freezing today.  It's freezing in the control panel in safemode, on Firefox.  This is what I was able to access today.  I get the message not responding and the blue ball of spinning.  Leave and he begins to respond again hope does not work.  Reboot does not work, two updates that were installed last night the uninstall does not work.  It was working fine last night, but this morning, after these two updates were automatically installed, nothing works.  I can view a page or screen or two and then it freezes.  I did a reboot, several reboots, safe mode.  Nothing works and I get fed up with hours of this.
I am running Vista on a Dell studio, bought in December.

    Hey HeidiJoH

When it was working fine without freezing?

You remember recent changes to the computer before it started?

If the computer was working fine before, you can do a restore of the system on your computer. Here are the steps on how to do a system restore:

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

Click on start toreduce this top t, type System Restore in the Search box, and then click System Restore in the programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue.

In the System Restore dialog box, click choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

In the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    Click Finish.
Here is an article that will give you information about the system restore:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212/
The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

Try to do a system restore and let us know if it works.

    Thank you.

  • How display the Quick Launch toolbar while right-clicking is prohibited and control panel is also forbidden?

I have a user limited access to work where the right-click and access more common is forbidden by the administrator of the computer. Can I show the Quick Launch toolbar without using the right click on the bar of tasks and without the help of the control panel.

At the same time, the shortcut for show desktop is also prohibited (windows logo + D)

    Hello

After some reflections more and a little research, you can try this...

    • Click Start
    • Click on run
    • Paste it into the Open box: %SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll, Options_RunDLL 1
    • Click OK
    • This should run the bar spots and the properties of the Start Menu
    • Check the box "Show Quick Launch.
    • Click OK

However, you may find that you are locked out of the race and taskbar and properties of the Menu start too!

If you can start the task (ctrl-alt-del) Manager, you can try the same thing in the drop-file for the new task. Or even try the same from a command prompt (start - all programs-accessories).

  • Can not see the plan network and Control Panel

Windows 7 64 bit, I can't show my control panel.  The window does not load.  First of all, I had trouble with page load network and Internet.  Now it crashes when I try to open it.  My most recent change was the installation of a new firewall.  I just wanted to see if I should add anything whatsoever to the title of the secure networks.

I can now display the network map.  After the installation of the station, I stopped and restarted.  The system should have distinguished between that and a reboot.  Thank you.
