Windows 8 key invalid
I'm going to reformat my HD last night when he asked my key of Windows 8. I typed the key from the card supplied with the operating system. After several attempts, he kept saying "invalid key". I contacted Microsoft technical support via the link and the person on the other end told me I typed the key in the field and that the key is not valid. The only way they could help was to sell me another key for $ 40.
I bought Windows 8 some time ago and find it frustrating that I can't reformat my HD. The only thing I've updated is my RAM. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
To install a Windows 8 upgrade version, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC.
If you have formatted the drive until the upgrade of Windows 8 version has been installed, you will not be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you will need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8. Help with the activation process, contact technical support.

It is my laptop that has the same version of windows. He repeat his invailed. Sum one help me please? I would like to be emailed to anyone who can help me as soon as possible? My name is Nathalie.
Hello
No.; You can't use it on another PC, if it is preinstalled on your laptop.
If the laptop/computer came with preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key provided with your computer/laptop to the OEM license preinstalled and is not transferable.
OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.
Only retail Operating System license that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.
And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.
See you soon.

Windows 7 key invalid product after the re - install?
I recently had to make a new re-install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop using my USB and an iso I downloaded from Microsoft. Everything was going great until yesterday when suddenly a box appears saying that my Windows could not be enabled because the key is not valid. I used the product key that is located on the Windows sticker on the back of my laptop, so I know that it is legitimate and it seems rather strange that this would begin past 2 weeks after the new facility instead of immediately. If anyone can shine a light on it, I'd appreciate it.
Well, the errors disappeared, but you are still not activated, try the activation of the phone:
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) select your "country" in the list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

I bought this PC in July 2011 and it is out of warranty. After that of being harassed at level to Windows 10 months I decided to do it, but rather than the upgrade, I did a clean install from the laptop was malfunctioning. I read on the Microsoft site that we could do it as long as they have Windows product key for Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 that was already installed on the machine. I wrote that down with the Windows ID (different number).
I've updated by downloading Windows 10 to a USB key and then the installation. Seemed to work very well (I think that I entered my product in the process ID). Now, a few weeks later I get a message that I need to "activate windows". I called MIcrosoft after it could not activate using the ID that I and after 30 minutes on the phone they me said my Windows product ID and both are my "invalid" Windows product key I would call HP and get this sorted - I have the original order number and Microsoft said that's all I need for HP to help me - but I am out of warranty and apparently help me unless I pay them $60. Another alternative is to buy a new copy of Windows 10 and pay MIcrosoft money.
I am shocked, because I'm simply doing what Microsoft has been harassment to me.
BTW, the PC seems to work fine except the message to activate windows. I guess that another option is to do nothing.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you.
Available for the free upgrade until the end of July 2016, according to the latest rules from Microsoft Windows 10. Thus, you will be able to spend to Win 10 If you want. I'm not a fan of win 10, but if you want to upgrade to it I personally recommend the ISO for Win 7 upgrade method to win 10-
# Download the ISO from MS site, burn it to a DVD, insert the DVD into the PC and start the process from inside Windows 7
# Follow the on-screen instructions then

Windows xp Pro for PC refurbished - no product key invalid
A friend brought me their computer today. It is an IBM Netvista refurbished. They also gave me the CD alone, they got when they bought the computer from buy.com. This is a Windows xp professional (includes service pack 3) for the CD of PC refurbished, part No. x 14-66864. I did a repair of the computer installation and when we asked for a product key, I used that label alone cost I can find on the computer. It returns a valid product key message. I guess that's the original label of the CoA and not on its refurbished CoA label. I searched up down and all parts of outside the computer and open the case inside and sought for a renewed CoA label and is not a. Can anyone help me please with the activation of this installation of windows?
I ended up doing a clean install using the Belarc Advisor product key was extracted from the previous installation of windows refurbishment. Installation went great, but windows doesn't always have to activate using the product key for renovation. Given that it was a clean install with 30 days to activate, it has allowed me to connect and windows is working properly. I then used the Windows product key update tool Carey suggested and changed the product key to that of the old original CoA label on the side of the case. Then finally activated, windows and I can now use windows update.

Some time ago I bought a computer with Windows XP pre-installed. I have not received a CD with it. At one point, during an update Windows online, I learned that the copy of Windows was not authentic, and the place I bought it from was out of business. I then bought Windows XP Pro Microsoft online and went through the update of product with the Windows product key update tool and ran OK from there.
Well, my HDD recently crashed, and I started to install the Windows XP Pro purchased CD on a new hard drive. The installation was asked to enter the 25-digit product key, I found that the unique product key sent with the CD has been a key 20 digits in this format; Product key: SKU:B7P - 00005 KEY01:xxxxx - xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-CD2. (The x are just for the format). What do need me do to be able to install my real purchased copy of Windows XP Pro?
The numbers you enter are not the product key. Contact Ms. online where you bought the CD or try some of the links below:

Original title: activation problem
I bought this laptop because I had my family vista premium installed on the computer crashed. This laptop was xp pro top, so I installed my vista on it. When I went to turn it on, it came with a message "Invalid product key". Does this mean I have to buy an another vista oem?
Hello
Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft Community.
If you receive an error indicating that your product key is not valid when installing Windows 7, it could be for the following reasons:
a. you can did your product key. Try having to retype.
b. you may use a product key that does not match the version of Windows Vista that is installed on your computer. Check the product key to ensure that it is for the version that you are trying to activate.
I suggest also refer to links and check if it helps:

I venture a guess that the sticker of the product key on the box of your desktop for Windows XP Edition family (as normally shipped with this computer.) Vista was not yet released for manufacturers of computers until the end of 2006.
Now your choice. Buy a license retail for Vista or Windows 7 (if you can find the drivers for your computer 2003) or get the original installation discs and reinstall Windows which shows on the license on the case sticker.

I bought a windows license key for windows 7 Home Premium. But not activated.
Is there a period of time that I have to activate it until it becomes invalid and will not work!
Thank you, Sean Collins
You can enable it when you want.
If you have problems with activation, you can use the phone activation:
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) select your "country" in the list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

Windows 7 key is genuine, but it will not activate.
I used the Genuine of microsoft verification tool and also the tool of validation check when you try to download and install windows virtual pc 2007 and all the two passed. I tried to activate by phone and online, and both failed. The reactivation is because my laptop crashed and I had to reinstall with a real Windows & Home Premium installation disk I had. The key, that I am using is the key that is included on the base of the laptop.
What should I do to activate windows?
you use a Lenovo OEM SLP key on a toshiba motherboard. that does not work.
a change of motherboards invalid OEM license, except in specific circumstances. Why did you change the motherboard?for which version and edition of windows is on your COA?) SLP OEM: this key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. -
