Hello
We have a XP computer running Outlook express and a Vista computer running Windows mail to work, we have the contact groups on our Outlook Express that we want to transfer in windows mail, is it possible. I tried using the export and import function on both and it does not work. I can't wait to hear your advice.
Hi SarahPascoe,
1. What are the steps that you followed to import and export contacts?
I suggest you to take a look at the following article link and check if it helps:

Contacts in Windows Mail doesn't have to 'Make a new Contact Group' in the toolbar
I'm unable to create a distribution list, because the option 'Make a new Contact Group' does not appear in my Contacts toolbar. Also the "Add a new Contact" option does not appear in the toolbar. The only options that appear are «organize...» Display... Burn. " I don't get any menu when I right click on the toolbar.
I use Windows Vista Home Premium on a laptop Gateway.
I also found the answer!
As said above Nimbostratus, but here's another way to do the same.OPEN your contacts folder
In the left column of the screen, you should see your CONTACTS folder. Right click on it.
Who should bring up the menu drop down and then click on PROPERTIES.One of the tabs is called CUSTOMIZE. Click on this
The first line says: "what kind of folder do you want?
I bet you anything that he does not say CONTACTS just below that!
Change it to CONTACTS and all your problems 'create a new contact group' are now solved... -

Hi Suzanne,.
Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!
You have reached the right forum. Let us work as a team and try to solve this problem.
If I understand correctly, you want to create a group list in Windows Mail.
Let us try the following steps:
Step 1: SFC scanner.
System File Checker (SFC) scan will replace the missing or corrupted system files on your computer.
Use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7 system files:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833
Step 2: Now, follow the items listed below and see if you are able to find the new Contact Group.
Manage your contacts:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/managing-your-contacts
Create groups of contacts (mailing lists):
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/create-contact-groups-mailing-lists
Hope the helps of information. Don't answer if you need assistance, we will be happy to help you.

I currently use Windows Mail in Vista and try to create a contact group. The help screen shown I should click Group Contact that appears in the toolbar. My only toolbar is the one with the file, display, etc. Under file, there is a contact button but no button in the group. How to create contact group?
With IE 9 installed (which is not relevant to this question, but see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#15), opening shows (on the file menu) 6 Contacts options:
- Organize
- Display
- New Contact
- New Contact Group
- Import
- Export
as the toolbar options.
So if you're not showing that, so there may be another problem. Try to right click in the Contacts folder and then choose Customize and make sure he uses the model for Contacts.
Also, you could try to compact and repair the database (www.oehelp.com/WMUTil/) that he might have gotten corrupted some and that could lead to strange problems, such as problems of composition you see, that repairs would fix.
You can also check for antivirus interference Winmail (see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).
