Windows Defender does not work with Microsoft Security Essentials

I just want to confirm I'm sure I see Windows Defender listed on the site alongside the Microsoft Security Essentials in a list of items to choose from - if we choose security while we can not run the Defender is that correct? Vista runs on this toshiba that has been in place. Windows Defender is not running but essentials runs with full daily verified updates scans and other readers of both records - the concern, it is that be enough security we should do other things regarding the last blackened on computers, we have seen happening with friends and the fake software updates We have seen with the neighbors not accepting real software, they thought were updated - but in the end a fake. They were running microsoft security databases, but didn't yet these things happen - no pleasure with the laptop still being down in a different place/city. Any info would be nice to hear, clear terms, just trying to help people close to home and at a distance from time to time thanks Jen

I'll simplify the answer...

1 Microsoft Security Essentials has his own Defender. Running 2 defenders only create conflicts.  MSE will stop Windows Defender.

2. no security program is sufficient for protection. Be careful, to surfing and what to download.

3. you can install "we demand" programs such as Spybot Search Destry and Malwarebytes. They do not run until you 'open '.
I have Avast Home Edition for "real-time" protection, and I have Spybot Search and Destroy more Malwarebytes.

A: If Microsoft Security Essentials did not automatically disable Windows Defender in Vista or Windows 7, you must turn off to avoid conflicts. Windows Defender can't be uninstalled Vista or Windows 7.
If Microsoft Security Essentials does not automatically uninstall Windows Defender on XP, you must manually uninstall Windows Defender through Control Panel of configuration/Add / Remove programs. »

Exactly what virus or other malware, have you been hit with? How do you have

What anti-virus and anti-spyware programs you have installed? Are
    they kept up to date?

Be aware that Microsoft Security Essentials and safety

What do you use for your antivirus protection? Windows Defender is not necessary if you use AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, Norton or McAfee. These AV programs have their own antispyware component builtin and allows you to disable Windows Defender by design.

    Hi lskdjfoie,

What have you tried to reinstall? Windows Defender or other programs?

I suggest the following steps and check.

    Step 1:

Usually if you have a third-party security software installed, Windows Defender would not work. I would temporarily disable all security software and check if the problem persists.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats.  In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 2:

If this does not help, I would say you scan SFC on your computer and check if Windows Defender works fine.

    Step 3:

If none of the steps helps create a new user account and check if the problem persists.
