Windows Defender is disabled by group policy
When I try to open Windows Defender programs or manage the Start Up I get the message that it is disabled by group policy.
The solution tells me that I need to contact the administrator. I AM the administrator. There is no other user on this computer. How can we | Difficulty this please
It is probably because you have installed an AV program or security that automatically turns off the Defender. What you use now and what others you have tried in the past since you have noticed that? Do you have it changed recently from something else? The program AV or seccurity does in general via Group Policy (I'm not sure exactly how). If this is the case, the deactivation is intentional and not a problem - if programs are running at the same time, they can cause conflicts, freezes, crashes, and all sorts of other problems. I know that Microsoft Security Essentials for this and I know there are others that are also (even if I don't have a list of who they are).
I hope this helps.
Thanks and good luck!

Windows Defender is disabled whenever I turn on my computer. setting has been activated automatically, but a message "windows defender is disabled" keep appearing one whenever I click on it. Help, please. Thank you!
If you have Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG installed, you don't have to do a thing. These 2 are supposed to disable Windows Defender, because they have their own "defender". Running two defenders would conflict on the other and redundant.
If you have not installed 2 above. Try this...
Start bittun > in the search box, type services > press ENTER > uac prompt > scroll down and look for Windows Defender...
under the State ; It must be said Started
under Startup type : must say automatic
If this isn't the case, right click on Windows Defender > properties >
under the change of automatic startup type to
under service status to start editing
Click OK.t-4-2

When Windows Defender window appeared with his link to activate Windows Defender, he does not, and, shortly after, he gave me a pop up window with an error message reading; Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x800705b4. This operation returned because the timeout period expired

How to manage startup programs when Windows Defender is disabled?
How to manage what programs to start with Windows when Windows Defender is disabled? I am running Vista Home SP2 with Microsoft Security Essentials.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_msconfig_on_vista
You can use msconfig or the program below.
And search for particular software tools > Options re start.
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
This utility, which has a knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs configured to run at system startup or login and that the entries in the order of processing windows. These programs include those in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell, toolbar extensions, helper objects to the browser, Winlogon notifications, auto and many start-up services even more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

I have a student email account that goes through Windows Live. I want to put in place on the enamel of my laptop but I do not have to configure settings. Where can I get this information?
If it's an Outlook Live account, see here: access your account using IMAP or programs email POP
Otherwise, you must contact the Helpdesk of the institution or the Web site to find out how to set up your account in your e-mail client. You don't tell us what e-mail program you use.

You have a hard drive partition to do - but you would need to contact/see the FAQ from the hardware manufacturer (HP, Dell, Gateway, Lenovo, etc) to see if and how.
Otherwise - you might have to order (pay for possibly) the factory restore/recovery of the value of the manufacturer.
If it was built * friend *, you will communicate with them. Ask your media.

How can I fix the "drag and drop" feature in Windows 7? It used to work, but now does not work, for no apparent reason!
What happens when you try? Make sure you drag the icon image and not the text of the name.
If it still doesn't work there are some registry changes that can try to alleviate the problem. But because the changes to the registry are tedious and dangerous, I recommend to leave the system to repair it for you. Here's how:- Type of restore in the search box of the start menu to find and open to restore system files and settings from a restore point.
- Click Next, choose a date before the problem started, then click Next once more.
- This process only takes around 2 minutes and only restores your system files/settings: it will not affect any of your files, documents, photos, emails, or anything else.
If the system restore does not resolve the problem try this to replace missing or corrupted system files. Here's how:- Type cmd into the start menu search box, and then press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to launch as administrator.
- At the command prompt to start the File System Check, type sfc/scannow .
