Windows defender vs vs. Trend Micro AVG - which?

XP Pro, SP3 - I have an ongoing argument about these 3 programs. Which one is best? I tell Windows defender.

Hello

AVG seems to just cause or otherwise participate in too many questions.

If you need to remove any antivirus/antispyware/security program be sure to uninstall
and then run the removal of its author tool or see the site of the manufacturer for special instructions.

------------------------------------------------------------

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leave the file system, Web,.
Operational network (Script and behavior are also recommended in Ver 6 +).

Prevx - Home - free

Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
disabled - click OK
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
Finish those you don't use).
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
http://www.prevx.com/   <-->
http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp  <-->

PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

I hope this helps.

  • Windows not recognizing the Trend Micro firewall.

My Windows Firewall status is "not monitored". My Trend Micro firewall is enabled. Recently I changed the State of my Windows Firewall from "Off" to "Not monitored" so I would not get a Windows security alert noting that my firewall is disabled. My question: Trend Micro says that Windows recognizes the Trend Micro firewall that is on and then start to monitor, rather than its own firewall. Why Windows not recognize is not the firewall of Trend Micro and so not monitoring in the Windows Security Center? See this: MSE and Windows Defender , Windows Defender cannot be used with AVG, McAfee, MSE, Norton and several other antimalware products.  Maybe this is why you can't access Windows Defender?  If this does not answer your question suggest you post back (and provide as much detail as possible) in the guide Windows Security and Privacy Forum... don't forget to post in the appropriate forum for your operating system.

  • Problem: Windows Security Center gives me a "alert" that my anti-virus is turned off, but I am running Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows Security Center gives me a "alert" that my anti-virus is disabled.  I have Win XP Professtional and'm running Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials times which I recently uninstalled, restarted the computer and reinstalled more updated.  I read related security problems, but I have not found a match.  I have a screenshot of the Win Security Center Alert, but unable to attach.  It is said: ' Windows found multiple antivirus programs on this computer, but they all report that they could be updated or disabled. " Click on the recommendations for suggested actions... [what I did without success, i.e. update.  «[I uninstalled, stop, rebooted and reinstalled and updated]»

When I shoot to the top of MSE it says, "protection is enabled, and updated definitions.

Windows Defender said: "Nothing detected" and "computer running normally."

Before the uninstall and update, I ran System Mechanic from Iolo, who has done wonders for speed.

    Norman

When it comes to antivirus software, you want one and only one installed and running on your computer.  Two or more may come into conflict with eachother and degrade performance.  I advise you to uninstall Windows defender and use soley mse.

also I strongly suggest that you avoid using "PC optimization" tools.  They can help a little, but they often do more harm than good.

  • Windows Defender dialog box indicates it does not work.

    Problem with windows defender

I use windows vista, my problem is with windows defender, it does not work well, even, it does not start when I click on icon (icon is correctly linked) displaying a dialog box to turn on the Defender, but that does not work.     After that restart Defender opens in a seprate window but after a few minutes (1-2 min) it turns off automatically

Windows Defender cannot be used with AVG, McAfee, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) or Norton and several other similar programs.  It is part of the Vista and Win 7 operating system and cannot be uninstalled.  Maybe your antivirus program is disabled Windows Defender - and maybe it's exactly what it is supposed to do.

You may want to consider the following: Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials

If you can not only your problem please post back and elaborate detailed about your computer, program antimalware, etc...

I want to REALLY Windows Defender back. How can I do?

This thread you latch on is almost 2 years.

Should have started a new one for you.

    To answer your question:

    > Do I need advocate? I use AVG free Edition 2012 and Wise registry cleaner.

1 AVG is supposed to close Windows Defender. This is because AVG has his own Defender. To have 2 defenders on the same machine will create conflicts.
Thus, you don't need Windows Defender if you moy.

    2. I HIGHLY recommend that you uninstall the registry cleaner.
In the hands of the users done computers, registry cleaner could be useful.
In the hands of novice computer users, it's a time bomb.

Now how can I reinstall windows defender in windows 7

I'm sorry, but I don't know anyway to uninstall Windows Defender in Windows 7, so I can't say with certainty how to re - install.

I just ran Revo Uninstaller, and it does not show an entry for Windows Defender.

  • Installation of Windows 8 is Trend Micro and stops

I decided to upgrade my old Windows 7 netbook to the latest version of Windows. I want to keep all the settings, we advised me to the first update of Windows 8 and continue with other updates.

However, the procedure stopped after the compatibility report has been done: it claims that I first need to uninstall Trend Micro Titanium V2.2, which is weird, because I do not think that this product was already installed on the machine. I have uninstall AVG and Comodo, however. As for Trend Micro, I also tried manually remove all of his tracks that I could find, including the corresponding sections in the registry (under software, Local computer and current user; also the uninstall program section).

The compatibility report claims that I have Trend Micro installed and refuses to continue. Any ideas why this is if and how proceed with the upgrade now?
