Windows easy transfer. I can't use transfer to move files to the new computer

I used windows easy transfer to back up my files to an external hard drive before doing a clean install of windows 7, XP.

I am unable to find any "windows easy transfer" files on the hard drive for transfer to the new computer.

ALL the files from my old computer are there and I am able to access it from the external hard drive.

Please tell me there is an easy way to transfer files and I don't have to do it manually.

What is the error message when you try to restore files in Windows 7?

Also, did you really use the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to back up your files or did you use the built in the files and Settings Transfer wizard in Windows XP? If you used the files and Settings Transfer Wizard, that won't work no.

You must install Windows Easy Transfer on Windows XP, save the files as one. MIG file on your external drive, restore it on the Windows 7 computer. See for instructions:

You can use the copy / paste command to copy your files from the external hard drive to the folders such as Documents, pictures, videos in Windows 7.

When you copy and paste a file, you make a copy of the original file that you can then modify independently of the original file. If you copy and paste a file to a different location on your computer, it's a good idea to give it a different name, so that you'll remember which file is new and which file is the original.

To copy and paste a file:

    1. Open the location that contains the file you want to copy.

    2. Right click on the file and then click on copy.

    3. Open the location where you want to store the copy.

    4. Right-click on an empty space within the location and then click on paste. The copy of the original file is now stored in the new location.

    5. Select multiple files or folders

There are several ways to select multiple files or folders.

      • To select a consecutive group of files or folders, click the first item, press on and hold down the SHIFT key and then click the last item.

      • To select multiple files or folders that are near each other, drag the mouse pointer to create a selection around the outside of all the items you want to include.

      • To select nonconsecutive files and folders, press on and hold down the CTRL key and then click each item you want to select.

      • To select all files or folders in a window, the tool bar, click on organize, and then click Select all. If you want to exclude one or more items of your choice, press on and hold down the Ctrl key and then click on the items.

  • Can I use program express email outlook on a new computer with operating system windows 7?

I prefer Outlook Express Windows Live Mail email program, but will be Outlook Express even work on my new 64 bit (former is 32-bit) computer?   One of the reasons why I don't like Windows Live Mail is because it uses the same address book for all of the mailboxes, and when you try to migrate the contacts of XP it's 2, 3, & 4 times with some of the addresses, sometimes creating a mess and is a long time to clean up.  Look forward to our question.  Your help will be greatly appreciated!  Rog

Outlook Express is not compatible with Windows 7.

I also liked and had to resort to Live Mail.

I also agree with the disorder of the address, I went through it also.

Give it time, it will grow on you. It's nice when you sign in to hotmail, you also have access to your address book when you are not at your computer at home.

  • Digital rights after the transfer of music files on the new office.

I'm sure this has been asked before, so I apologize for the duplication, but I don't even know where to start looking.  I recently bought a new desktop computer with Windows 7.  This platform is an upgrade to my previous Vista PC.  This computer has more than 1000 songs purchased through Amazon, old Yahoo and even more old Music game platforms.  No problem burning CDs from the old pc.  However, after transferring my files to my new pc, none of the songs I downloaded play, instead, I get a message do not have DRM.  What I have to go back to my old pc and burn each song on a cd, or y at - it an easier way to put them on my new desktop PC?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jcmcn5,

Welcome to Microsoft Windows 7 answers Forum!

To resolve this issue, reset the DRM Bank on the computer. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. If Windows Media Player 12 is running, quit Windows Media Player 12.

    2. Locate the DRM folder on the hard disk, and then rename the folder to DRMbackup DRM.

Note By default, this folder is located in the following location in Windows 7:

    \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

    3. visit the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    http://drmlicense.one.Microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp

    4. follow the instructions on the website to update the safety component of Windows Media Player 12. This procedure allows you to obtain new licenses for media content. You can also reset licenses for purchased content so that you can play that content on a computer.

Note On a Windows 7 computer, you must run Internet Explorer as an administrator before update you the safety component of Windows Media Player 12. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. click Startand then click all programs.

    b. right click on Internet Explorerand then click run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.

Note You must contact any third-party stores where you purchased music to reset the licenses for that music. If you copied CDs for protected Windows Media Audio files, the CD must be copied again.

  • Already used Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat on the new computer.

Our computer died.  We bought a new, upgraded to Windows7 and struggled to activate Microsoft Office 2010.  I still have the drive and the number of series Adobe Acrobat 9 that I had on the old computer but thought that you are only allowed to activate it on a single computer.  After the trouble we had already I won't take the risk simply "having a go".  Can someone please tell me what to do?  Do not forget, that we are very technologically challenged in this household.

Same case with Adobe Photoshop Elements 5, but it was purchased as part of a bundle with the computer who died so I don't know if the number on his sleeve is the serial number.  She has Windows VistaTM /XP on the drive, so I would like to know if it is OK to use it on Windows7.

Emergency assistance would be much appreciated that we use the computer for our home-based business and we have been without a computer for more than a week.

    Thank you

you are allowed to two simultaneous activations with your license.

so, if your computer dead had activation only, you can install and activate on your new computer.

If you want to install on a computer of 3rd you must disable one of your previous installations.  assuming that you can not run the program on your dead computer and click Help > deactivate, you need to contact adobe support and have them reset your number of activations: http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html
