  This agent.exe is Macrovision. Another example is:

  However, this seems to be a check once a week for updates for several products supplied with my Dell. So I'm still confused why this is happening now and how to turn it off.

  Thomas,
  Looks like you did a lot to try to find the culprit.  One thing that I do not see you mention performs a clean boot.  If you haven't tried that I implement that and then restart and see if Setup returns to the top.

  Follow the steps in this article to resolve problems with a clean boot.

  Advanced problem resolution by clean restart.

  Let me know if this helps.  Also have you looked in the Application section in the event viewer and saw all errors related to this?

• CS4 Suite hangs at "preparing for installation."

  I've seen everywhere on the internet tons of people having this same problem, but I can't find the answer, so I'm asking here.

  Years, I received a copy of the Collection Adobe CS4 Master the College I attended. I installed it on my first laptop, but I have upgraded to laptops since then and are now planning on some of resettlement programmes.

  I want to install Illustrator. I have lancer throwing disk, check the box for Illustrator, but each time he hold "preparation for installation" and just does not spend. I looked for hidden windows and nothing else. I disabled my firewall and antivirus and ran it in compatibility mode, but it simply doesn't.

  I am running Windows 7 SP 1, if that account, and my features are more than enough.

  d. at the command prompt, type msiexec.exe / unregister and then press ENTER.

  e. type msiexec/regserver, and then press ENTER.

  Now, check if the problem is resolved.

  I suggest you repair Windows Installer

  a. Click Start, go to run, type "Regedit" and press ENTER.

  b. in the registry editor, navigate to the following registry folder:

  'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer' by clicking on the sign MORE (+) sign.

  c. highlight the "MSIServer" folder in the left pane and double-click "ImagePath" on the item in the right pane.

  d. its value should be 'C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe V' (without the quotes). If this is not the case, change the above value.

  Note: There is a space between msiexec.exe and c I assume that Windows is installed on drive C.

  e. restart your computer.

• Error 80070103 updates Windows installing drivers for laptop HP keeps repeating

  I have a HP dv7 laptop with Win7 SP1 (64-bit), 6 GB of RAM and all updates.

  Recently, I received another set of 3 that are specific to the hardware of my HP laptop.  I checked, and 2 other Microsoft and proceeds to their installation.  2 Microsoft installed OK, but the 3 which are for hardware of the laptop, failed.  (Update the Intel driver for another liaison WiFi, Intel - hardware and Realtek network card) The screenshot is (the center of the 3 lines):

  and got this message for all 3 screens.  I enclose you one of them, because they are the same:

  

  A few hours later same updates Windows 3 reappears and I installed them again, this time stopping at the antivirus and anti-malware programs.  There was no difference - I had the same failed installation attempts.

  I would very appreciate advice, suggestions or recommendations on how to make these updates of Windows installed properly and successfully.

  You should be happy that they're fail because generally, it is never a good idea to accept installation hardware (audio, video, network), drivers offered by Windows Update.
