Windows Installer has stopped working on Vista Ultimate 64 - bit SP2

Hello

My Windows Installer has stopped working all of a sudden (probably common last week).  I get no error message at all.  It simply doesn't get it.  The programs can be installed and uninstalled by there own systems updated, but the changes are not reflected in "programs and features".  When I ask Windows Installer to run under programs and features, I get the usual verification pop-ups, but once I click on the last approval, nothing happens.

I tried to install a new Windows Installer from the Microsoft Download site and each time, the program "check updates" and I get an error message that says "this update does not apply to your version," (to paraphrase).  I tried to install Windows 6.0, v-2, x 64, but when it does not work I tried all (LOL) with the same result.

At first I thought that my computer can was struck by a malicious code, so I ran MSE, remove malicious software (FULL) Windows for January and Advanced System Care 3.  All scans is come-up 100% clean!

I tried to restore my computer to a point 3 days does not.  As Murphy's law would have, I disabled the restore before January 12 points.

Windows Update online might work.  I get notifications for optional updates for MSE and AFAIK, they are applied.

Edit: One more important thing, the uninstall on Advanced System Care 3 feature does more either.  It's almost like the hooks to the installer of Windows have been removed to that also.

Installation service seems to be very well and the value 'manual '.

Any thoughts on the subject?  I can reload Windows from "day 1", but would rather not.  Laughing out loud.  I have my drive so.  :-)

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Cannot install Windows PLUS updates. -Modules Windows Installer has stopped working...

original title: cannot install MORE Windows updates.

Greetings, people. My computer will download, but not install many of the windows updated.

I think it's because of 'message "Windows Modules Installer has stopped working and was closed". Is this correct?

Can I fix it myself? Thank you, Bob

    Hello

try looking here's FixIt pro windows update:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058/en

    LC

  • Vista: All Windows updates suspended / "Module of Windows Installer has stopped working and Will Close."

On my installation of Vista, all windows updates no longer work.  If I try and run them from Windows Update in Control Panel one starts to run but then it just hangs.  At the same time, I get a message "Windows install Module has stopped working and closes".  If you look in the services, it is crushed, but restarts.  The update remains always hung.  It doesn't matter what update I try and run, I always get the same result.

When the computer is shut down, it also tries to automatically install updates.  These also hang on the first, which means that I have to force power off the computer.

Don't know if this is related, but I don't think that SP2 already installed - it kept if crush (don't remember what was the error message).  When I restart in safe mode it tells me that I'm still on SP1.  I followed all the suggestions on how to get SP2 installed for the error I received, but nothing has worked.

Do not really understand what I have really installed a lot of "_" on the PC, it is a "clean" installation (about 1 year now).

Any ideas?  Really, I don't want to have to do a re-install, but I suspect that is where I'm heading unfortunately.

    Hi AndrewInNZ,

Thanks for visiting the site of the community of Microsoft Windows!

I would like to ask you some questions for a better understanding of the issue:

    (a) did you try to temporarily disable the security software and check if updates are smooth?

    (b) you are using a firewall in addition in instead of the windows firewall? If so disable (temporarily) of the third party firewall and look for updates.
It is usually caused by a 3rd party firewall that it blocks the internal ports.

Check out WERCON for more information-

    1) Click START | wercon.exe type in the search box start and click on enter.

    (2) select "View problem history", under 'Windows identified problems' with the right button on a problem, and then select "view problem details. Click "Copy to Clipboard" export to text document

    Also reset the Firewall setting:

    1) Click START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | Click on FirewallSettings.exe above | Select the Advanced Settings tab. Click 'Restore Defaults ' | Click on apply (if Hi-lighted) | Click OK

Check the status of the service as well:

    Log in as administrator-

Start button | Control Panel | System and Maintenance | Administration tools

    Double-click on Services

(Provide the administrator password or a confirmation if prompted to do so.)

Right click on the 'Windows Modules Installer' service, and then select Properties.

  • "Windows Installer has stopped working". After going to 'manage' under 'computer', I find that windows install is missing from the directory 'services '.

I managed to solve the problem by doing something with my registry. Now after a week his new broke and I don't remember how I fixed it. I am running windows vista ultimate. I discovered that it was broken again by trying to download java. HALP.

I rebooted my computer in any way, and nothing has worked. However, it seems even e-mail links have stoped working.

I can only suggest that you back up all your personal files and folders you want to keep in a flash drive or an external hard drive, then...

    1. If your computer comes with a Vista installation DVD, you can use it to perform a repair installation.

    Repair for Vista installation
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-Vista.html
If you do not, find a friend who has a. Make sure it has the same version of bits as yours.

    2. If you have a set of recovery disks created at the time you purchased your computer, use and restore your computer to 'presets' (as the first is out of the box)

If you do not have a set of facts, contact the manufacturer of your computer, ask a set of recovery disks. The cost is very low and it is well worth the expense.
In the same Helena ask to speak to a technician. Ask the person to teach you how to access your recovery partition (if you have one) and how to use it to restore your system.

The recovery partition was the installation by the manufacturer of your computer. They know exactly how to use it.

With my limited knowledge, that's all I can help you.

Someones with a better knowledge of the computer may have better ideas to solve your problem.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded: run DrirveView - set the VIEW to hide
Microsoft drivers - update those without drain in their names. (Also update BIOS and)

drivers chipset on the site of the constructor/the system motherboard.)

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

    Hi guys

I had installed up-to-date antivirus software and my problem seems to start after an update from Microsoft. Do a search on the web and you will see similar stories. I spent so much time trying to solve this I think it's better just to do a re-install. Certainly not the resolution I had hoped, but appreciate this type of questions are almost impossible to solve the problems through intermittent mail such messages.

I told you to do many things. What you have tried and what you are still trying (if we can get a happening of todo list and I can check it)? Have you managed to find the results of chkdsk?

Copy and paste so the formatting is good. It is a single line. If you get an error message, you can copy it by right-clicking in the window, choose the brand, by selecting the text, and press ENTER.

There are communes of false positives of SFC so do not assume that something is actually corrupted until we see what files it complains. Settings.ini, desktop.ini, tcpmon.ini and ending with mof files are false positives.

For the results of the SFC
Start - All Programs - Accessories - right on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Type (or copy and paste by clicking in the command prompt window and choose Paste).

    findstr/c: "[SR] cannot" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log|more "

It will be able to see which files are corrupted.

    To see if there
