Windows is unable to format USB

So I bought a new USB and I can not format it. It is said: "windows cannot format this drive. My USB does not display its size. Could someone help me?

Thank you.

Go to the search box of the start menu, type Management then right-click on computer management shortcut that is offered to you & select run as administrator.  When open dialog box [it takes several seconds], select disk management.

Be sure to identify the good drive your corrective action would ruin your PC if you have accidentally identified the wrong disc.  The USB which probably has no assigned drive letter, but special partitions inside the PC can also not need them.  Use the info in the list of drives & in the illustrations below them to be sure that you select the correct drive.

The column shows status of the list is it formatted [probably NTFS or FAT32]?  Its size is shown correctly?  If so right click on the entry of the reader in the list & select change the letter drive & paths.  Give it a drive letter permanent [will continue to apply after the restart & when you plug it in next].  There will be a warning that any process using the player will be disturbed by the "modification" of the drive letter.

If this does not fix it normal procedures don't then reformatted the drive, return to this dialog box & format it.

If only it does not then correct you will need to examine the disk with a Partition Manager.  There are several available free but now are probably not the time to sit and learn something new.  If any of your friends or colleagues are familiar with these utilities then try the free version of EaseUS Partition Master® or Partition Manager 12 Free Edition [Paragon seem to have become obsessed with Facebook - the software is also available for download on CNET.]

  • Unable to format hard drive for Windows

Hello, I need your help here! You receive the same error message saying: "Windows is unable to complete the format" when you try to format an external hard drive on your computer? Honestly, the hard drive of my dell computer recently asked just to get in shape when it has been used on my Windows 7 computer. However, when I click on Yes to format this drive with my lost player documents and files, windows says just windows could not complete for formatting? Honestly, I used Google to search for the error problems related unable to complete the format windows and also asks me to select a formatting program? What you recommend me? This software is useful for my case? Thanks for any suggestions here!

    Hello

If you have a mac, you can use a utility called disk pre-installed program. Connect your external DRIVE for mac drive and find an application called disk utility, in disk utility, there should be an option to erase the external HARD drive. It may come with an error similar to what you had before, but it's certainly worth a try. Let me know if this worked for you.

You are able to use any other memory card with no problems on the same computer?

Try to format it on another computer and check. If you are unable to format it on another computer then it is perhaps because of the corrupted memory card. You will need to contact the manufacturer for assistance.

  • Unable to format my new drive sata hard with windows.

I bought a new (raw) sata Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Green to use as a second hard drive in my system.  I installed it fine and BIOS and windows recognizes it.  I assigned a drive letter with disk management and made the active partition.  In disk management, it shows: Disk 0 basic 1863.02 GB Online - (m :)) healthy (primary, Active Partition BRUTE))

The last thing I have to do to make this drive work is format.  What windows seems unable to do.  If I try to do a quick format within two minutes, I get the message "Windows was unable to complete the format".  And when I tried to do the complete method it seemed to do very well, after about 90 minutes, it was made, to halfway and then six hours later the bar had not progressed at all.  Which forced me to restart my computer I could do something for her again.  Before restarting, he kept saying that I didn't have permissions to do something for the reader.

Normally I think it was a bad drive, but about six months ago, I bought seagate 1.5 TB internal a drive and exactly the thing happened, I ended up sending this rear disc.  Now I start to worry, it's something else.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium x 64 with service pack 2, I have protection anti-virus and Windows updates to current day without any problem.  5 GB of ram, AMD image treatment.

Windows 7 may not be the installation of a device from external storage such as a hard drive external or USB Thumb drive (with the exception of eSATA).

You must install Windows 7 on a storage attached internal device.

  • What is the unit allocation size that is displayed in the window to format USB?

    Original title: allocation unit size

What is the unit allocation size that is displayed in the window to format usb

    Hi Moaz,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to know the unit allocation size that is displayed in the format USB window. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I will certainly help the question of fixing.

In computer file systems, a cluster is the unit of allocation of disk space for files and directories. To reduce the load of the management of data on disk structures, the file system allocates no individual disk sectors, but contiguous groups of sectors, called clusters.

On a disk that uses 512-byte sectors, a 512-byte cluster contains one sector, whereas a 4-Kibibyte (KiB) contains eight sectors.

Refer to the below mentioned article and see if it provides information that you are looking for.

By default for NTFS cluster size, FAT and exFAT:

  • Based on Windows Vista unable to launch Java application

Windows Vista unable to launch Java based application for example Samsung phone mobile file management software Kies, iPhone iTunes and trading stations.

I had uninstalled all the old version of Java and downloaded the java last official website of Java and tried to reinstalled several times. Java can be installed successfully but the Java application or Java-based software may not be launched or opened.

Also, for one of the web based Java software (for example the stock/mapping platform forex at ProRealTime.com), when I hover my mouse over the bar (lower right next to the time bar), tasks the Java icon just disappears.

I searched high and low for a solution for more than a year now and nothing works.

I think it's the fault of Windows OS and not the Java or Java applications. I had checked that my Java has been installed correctly this way. But Java-based software would be launched just don't!

Some experts from Microsoft can you please help?

Can I re - install Windows Vista without re - format the hard drive of my computer?

    Hello

    1. what exactly is the problem you face?

2 have you tried to format a USB stick with Windows 8, set up files?

    3. you try to recover the Windows 8 set up files after formatting the Flash drive?

If you have formatted a Flash drive with Windows 8, set up the files, you have lost the set up files of Windows 8. You may need to copy it again into the flash player.

You can visit the article to create installation media to install Windows 8 by using the Windows 8 installation files.

How to create an installation media for a PC refresh or reset

When you format a disk, it deletes all data stored on the disk. Before formatting a hard drive, you need to backup/save important data to a different location.

  • PowerEdge 2850 - trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 from USB

    Hello

Let me start with this: they gave me this server by a friend, and I thought it would be a very rewarding experience.

I want to install Windows Server 2008 R2 from a USB key. I already formatted the USB drive by using diskpart and implemented the fat32 file system. Then I went on the Windows site and downloaded Windows Server 2008 R2, which is a NTI .iso file and which resulted in the new format USB key

On the server, I already put 'Manage USB Controller - with bios' and changed the sequence of drive for the "emulated hard disk USB flash drive" at the top.

Now on the screen of boot sequence, after the press for installation of BMC, he says ' remove disks or other media. Press any key to restart"

What's not here? Shouldn't I see a Windows Server set up the screen? I'm not there is something very basic I'm missing, but any help is appreciated.

    Thank you!

Remove the USB when it restarts the first time :)
