Windows license key

Is it possible to know the original version of Windows 7 and the license key series with only the serial number. of the case?

If the operating system is still running you can download and run the free utility called magic Jellybean.

It will provide the key to activation of 25 characters, and the version of Windows 7.

Best regards

  • Pavilion p001TX: lost Windows license key

I bought a pre-installed llicensed WIndows 8.1 compatible HP laptop. Recently I tried to dual-boot my laptop with Ubuntu 14.01 for educational purposes. By mistake I finished my whole hard drive, which meant that even the recovery folder wiped out formatting. I want to reinstall Windows 8.1 on my laptop, but I don't have my copy of original Windows license key. I bought the laptop to an authorized HP provider, but he says that the company does not provide a repair CD Windows. The license key is not located in the BIOS of the laptop, it is not yet available on any sticker on any external part of the laptop. What can I do to find the key licensing and re - activate my original Windows? Pease guide me.

    Hi @Rishi17 ,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. It's a great site for information and questions. I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion Notebook 15-p001tx and problems with product activation Windows 8.

Here is a link to product activation Windows 8.

Here is of little assistance from Microsoft as well.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

  • Microsoft will never ask me to send my Windows license key to them?

Is there any situation (home or business) where Microsoft send me a Windows license key will be asked? Or such a request will be a scam?

The only time that Ms will never ask for your key is if you contact them first - and if you ask a question that relates directly to your key (for example, problems with activation)

MS will normally only ask your product ID - who is not "data personally identifiable" according to the rules, since thousnds of machines may have the same ID.

NO ONE will be cold-call you and ask for your product key - unless they are crooks.

  • Pavilion 17-g121wm: laptop refurbished with no Windows license key

    Greetings,

I just got a used Pavilion laptop. It came with 10 windows pre-loaded and is in perfect working condition, but they stripped all the stickers from him, including one with the Windows license key. If I buy the HP recovery media, it will have the license key, and it'll work on my laptop?

I'm waiting for a reminder of the repairer's customer service to see if I can get a key from them (I just call a few minutes ago). For the price I paid, I'd take a few steps to take care of this (including buying a new copy of Windows, although I'd rather not if I can avoid it).

I found it! I am so excited. I have installed and run Belarc Advisor, and he showed a ton of information, including my Windows license key. I stuck that in the right place in my settings and here! It showed that my copy of Windows has been activated before I did, but I didn't have the possibility to create recovery discs, that was my main problem. Windows has accepted the key, and now I have the ability to create a recovery disk. I get an error when I do, but I want to install an update, now that I think it will fix. If it isn't, I think it's fodder for another line of inquiry. @erico, thank you very much for all your time. I hope that this post will help someone else who may be faced with the same problem or something similar.

  • Windows license key renewal scam Possible

I received a phone call that is supposed to come from Microsoft informing me that my Windows license key has expired and I need to renew it.  I called the number provided, 1-855-601-0009 and the person who answered was not born Native American. Without asking questions about my name or version of Windows he told me that my license key has expired and that the renewal cost is $ 200.00.  To the best of my knowledge, the license key for any Microsoft operating system never expires.

  • Lost Windows license key

I have an old Compaq 610 Notebook PCand the hard drive failed, unfortunately.  Can I replace the hard drive, but the Windows licesnse key sticker is so worn that I can read is no longer the characters.  How can I retrieve my license key?

Sorry, but there is no way to retrieve the PID key that was printed on the COA Microsoft sticker. Further, the key that would have been recovered since the failed hard drive now is not the same as that on the sticker. You will need to use the recovery/restoration of HP/Compaq media to install the factory OS on the new hard drive. If you do not have this media, you can be able to demand for HP business support.

  • Windows license key Sticker

It's the thumbnail of my (6 months!) license keys HP Pavilion DV6-2115sa:

Some parts removed for reasons of privacy (series, last block of key lic). Other parties withdrew .

I don't think that this should happen to a laptop computer that has not been abused and only used on a desktop and on my knees.
    So-
    Why is he doing this?
That I blame -MS or HP?
Where can I get a replacement if key I need to reinstall?

Should I remove the sticker from the laptop, because it is basically useless as evidence of license in its current state?

I can't perform a restore I did not any recovery media (none supplied) or a recovery partition (deleted by Acronis when I cloned my HARD for one SSD drive). I have a Windows 7 Home Premium retail disk that should work with the key, if I need to reinstall it. I managed to recover the key to the sticker with a UV lamp and a magnifying glass.

When I install a preinstalled (OEM) or the retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 Windows 10 license, this license OEM to remain or become a retail license?

If you upgrade an OEM or retail version of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 for the free Windows 10 update this summer, the license is consumed in it. Because the free update is derived from the basic qualification license, Windows 10 will be that too many licenses.

If you are upgrading a retail version, it carries the rights to a commercial version.

If you upgrade an OEM version, it carries the rights of an OEM version.

    Full version (retail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-Does not require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

    -Expensive

    Upgrade version (detail):

-Includes the rights of transfer to another computer.

-require a qualifying earlier version of Windows.

-Expensive, but less expensive full version

    OEM:

OEM of Windows versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

What happens if I change my motherboard?

This would cancel the upgrade of Windows 10 license because he no longer a previous eligible license, which is required for the free update. Then, you will need to purchase a Windows 10 full retail license.

Users who take advantage of the upgrade will also provide for Windows 10 Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 be able to get a recovery media?

With 10 Windows, you can create your own recovery media and save the pristine state of the operating system and pre-installed software. If things go wrong and you cannot refresh or reset your device successfully, you can start the machine by using recovery media and given to prior intact.

  • Pavillion P7-1423w: failure of the motherboard - how can I retrieve the Windows license key?

I bought a refurbished Pavilion p7-1423w a couple of years and a couple of weeks, it's totally dead.  It wouldn't boot on hard drive, CD, DVD, or USB, and I couldn't get into the BIOS.  It was toast.  Thinking that it was the motherboard, I bought as close to the same motherboard came with the computer as possible, hoping it would always start windows.  I replace the motherboard, and after several attempts, I got it to start on Windows.  But then I realized that Winodws was not enabled, so, apparently, that the Windows key has been changed somehow.

My computer came with Windows 8 is installed, and I see that the keys are in the old motherboard BIOS, which is dead.  I tried to recover the old key from the hard drive in Windows.old, but not luck.

HP can provide new keys for me since the death of the motherboard?  The product is no longer under warranty, so it seems that this will cost me $60 to call them.  Is this correct?

    Thank you

    Tim

    Rzgui, welcome to the forum.

The license for Windows on OEM computers is only for the original configuration.  Microsoft will not make available product keys.  You will need to purchase a full copy of Windows.

  • HP Stream 13: How do we install 8.1 Windows on HP 13 Stream without a recovery partition and a Windows license key?

I deleted all the hard drive on my HP Stream 13, including the recovery partition.  I want to reinstall Windows 8.1 on the disk.  I downloaded the ISO of 8.1 of Windows on the Microsoft Web site.  When I try to install it, I get prompted for a product key.  He must see that the material already has a license for Windows 8.1 and not to invite me for a key.  What should I do to get Windows installed 8.1?

13 Stream is a license for Windows 8.1 with Bing, it does not cover the Windows 8.1 ISO that you downloaded, that's why you're be prompted for a product key.  I heard Windows 8.1 with of the Bing ISO are available, but they are not official.  If you have not created a USB recovery before wiping the drive, you could also buy the HP recovery media or possibly install Windows 10.
