Windows Live Mail extremely slow

Read your own posts, but they offer no concrete solution.

Windows Live Mail is extremely slow on all actions, such as selection, type, transmission, reception, everything, to the point where it is impractical and unusable.

I have a brand new HP Elite, Windows Vista Home Premium x 64, to this day, virus scanned, etc.. All programs work well, including Windows Mail. But Windows Live Mail service is really too slow to be of any use.

I have not agreed to update to IE8 because of many problems posted with it, that's why I continue to use IE7.

Is there a real fix to the extremely slow problem Windows Live Mail? The plethora of forums and posts on this specific topic, it seems that we, potential users are out of luck. Please advice and correct.

  • Windows Live Mail - import contacts very slow

Import contacts Windows Live Mail is very very ssssloooooooooowwwww.

I am importing approximately 2300 contacts from a CSV file created using the WLM on the same computer export function, until I had to do a complete Windows re - install. The export function created the file quickly enough. Importation is happening now for 15 hours and has just exceeded 2000 contacts so I guess there are still a few hours or more.

It's pretty extreme and ridiculous! Am I doing something wrong or missed something? In the previous mail clients such as Outlook Express and Outlook, this task took a few seconds.  It looks like a huge not backward, even a computer in the era of steam dispose of such a simple and banal mission without imposing its only megabytes of ram.

  • Windows Live Mail using my screen goes black

I use Windows Live Mail. But after a while, my screen goes BLACK

These symptoms are probably caused by your graphics card. Have you checked for the updated drivers on the website of the manufacturer of the computer? Or the Web site of the company that produced your graphics card? Some video card manufacturers have been slow to release new drivers who play well with use of hardware acceleration WLMail.

Windows Live Mail has its own support at the Windows Live Solution Centerforums. Please address any other question you may have on one of the forums on the right side of this page. You are probably asked to give your version of WLMail and Windows so that the answer may be more accurate. In WLMail to find your version of the software, a press on ALT - H. If it doesn't show you the version and the build number, press on escape to two times, and then Alt - F B.

  • XP: Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail - Emails have disappeared

My boss had some problems a few months where a piece of his e-mails have been deleted.  Like a year or two of a value.  He had a ton of emails in their Inbox.  Just recently he started having the same e-mail repeatedly.  I decided to download windows live mail and install it on his computer.  It is running XP.

I installed live mail.  He acknowledged the current e-mail account, he is using Outlook Express (POP3).  However, there is only the latest e-mail messages.  So, I went to windows live mail and click on file - import - and I imported Outlook Express 6.  He asked me what files and I clicked on the button that says it all.

He went through the process and declared finished.  It was supposed to put the files in the storage folder.  I check the records of storage and there is nothing in the Inbox sent items folder has its old emails in them.  I looked around, in the other Inbox for the normal email account there and there is nothing more.

I'm going to switch back to outlook express and its Inbox has no emails as well.  I'm like ooohhhh _.  If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

I don't know if it compacted emails in outlook express.

    Thanks in advance - James

For now, let's deal with Outlook Express.

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    Why mail disappears:

    About file Corruption:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx

    Recovery methods:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

    And see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

This computer is home and cable? If so, this is the e-mail scan probably the cause. According to your AV program, you may need to reinstall.

I tried to save WLM backup to different external HD, Flash Drives & direct burning to DVD disc &
all are very slow with flow rates up to 4 bytes/sec display!
The fastest was direct on DVD but still hours.

  • Need to transfer my mail from windows mail on vista to windows live mail on windows 7 - but having problems

I know there are a lot of similar problems on this forum but no one has mentioned a problem in the transfer of mail on a hard drive. I completed the following steps:

-Mail exported from Windows Mail on my computer vista laptop to a folder on the desktop

-A tried to save this folder on an external hard drive in order to import messages in Windows Live Mail on my new laptop Windows7.

Copying starts without a problem, but coming up with an error message telling me that the files will be copied without their properties. I can then choose to continue without properties or to cancel the process.

It is for as much as I got - emails are extremely important related to the work of the conversations and I desperately need to transfer! My old laptop is on its last breath and I would like the peace of mind of having saved emails before he dies on me!

Thank you very much in advance for your help

    Chloe

Hi - Thanks a lot for this suggestion. I have now managed to cross the emails. I continue when I got the message and it worked - I think that this has been facilitated by uncheck the 'read only' box in the properties of emails before copying.

Thank you so much for all help.

  • Windows Live Mail, Mail.MSMessageStore, and SuperFetch

I now have serious problems to make Windows Live Mail to
drive at a reasonable speed, probably due to the size of this file
at first more more than half the RAM installed on the
computer, where the compression of the WLM database
stop working; so beyond the size of the RAM installed less
the size of the Vista system section the size of the WLM
program and make the start of WLM so slow I can't
    to use it:

    Mail.MSMessageStore

The obvious solution, install more RAM, is not currently
appropriate given that neither the mother nor 64 bit Vista Home
Premium can more than manage the 8 GB I have already.  It can
become a solution, but ONLY if the memory card
manufacturers to begin laying the more memory on every suitable memory card
for this computer and then upgraded again Microsoft offers to
the more expensive versions of Vista.

I already tried to disable SuperFetch in Vista
because it seems to be responsible for the first part of the problem-
He made my very heavy use of WLM discussion groups section
This file used so strongly that SuperFetch is always try to keep
in memory every time that WLM is running, and also the copy used
during compression and stored in the Compact folder; but there is
simply not enough RAM to contain both of these files as well as the WLM
program in memory at the same time.  There not much helped - WLM would be
commissioning fast enough, I could see it working, but the WLM upgrade to
version 2011 for months, I was busy on other issues
seems to have either deleted or hidden on how user controls
often the compression occurs, so I could not simply trigger a
    compression.

If she is only hidden, where is he now?  If it's gone, could Microsoft
offer a program a bit like WMUtil which allows to compress
Mail.MSMessageStore of files larger than the amount of RAM?

In addition, Microsoft would provide an option that makes this file to hold
little more than the name of the file actually keep what
already done this so great record and moving most of its other
contained in a separate file, for which the file name is changed to the
least as often it's compressed?  Only the very heavy discussion groups
If users need this option, but it looks like one of the
simpler ways to exclude most of the current content of this file
to have SuperFetch force all in memory.

Microsoft adding export and import functions for focus groups
positions to WLM, similar to that already in place for electronic messages,
while I would have at least the opportunity to export some less
frequently accessed records of discussion groups, but the import sections
    them later?

I suspect that the second part of the problem is part of WLM
herself - when it starts, he's trying to put all the program more
All Mail.MSMessageStore of the file into memory at once and can not
handle the case where the RAM is simply not big enough to allow this.
