• XP: Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail - Emails have disappeared

  My boss had some problems a few months where a piece of his e-mails have been deleted.  Like a year or two of a value.  He had a ton of emails in their Inbox.  Just recently he started having the same e-mail repeatedly.  I decided to download windows live mail and install it on his computer.  It is running XP.

  I installed live mail.  He acknowledged the current e-mail account, he is using Outlook Express (POP3).  However, there is only the latest e-mail messages.  So, I went to windows live mail and click on file - import - and I imported Outlook Express 6.  He asked me what files and I clicked on the button that says it all.

  He went through the process and declared finished.  It was supposed to put the files in the storage folder.  I check the records of storage and there is nothing in the Inbox sent items folder has its old emails in them.  I looked around, in the other Inbox for the normal email account there and there is nothing more.

  I'm going to switch back to outlook express and its Inbox has no emails as well.  I'm like ooohhhh _.  If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

  For now, let's deal with Outlook Express.

  Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

  Recovery methods:

  If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

  To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

  Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

  In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

  Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

  Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

  First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

  If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

  If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.
   
  If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

  A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

  Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

  Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages.   Hello, I recently bought a new computer that is running Windows 7.  My e-mail program is Windows Live Mail.

  My old computer has Windows XP, and I served my Outlook e-mail program.

  I saved all my e-mail messages from Outlook (old computer) to a "PST" on an external hard drive, before wiping my old hard drive clean.

  I need to help the transfer (or extraction) my messages in my file .pst in Windows Live Mail (new computer).

  So, to summarize:
  1. old Outlook emails stored in a .pst file in an external hard drive
  2. new computer running Windows 7, and the e-mail program is Windows Live Mail
  3. I want to transfer my old emails (stored in the .pst file) into my new computer.

  How can I accomplish this?

  By downloading and installing the trial version of Office 2007, add the PST to the mail profile, and then import in WLM.

  BTW, if you have used the 'export' function in Outlook on your old machine, then you may well have problems with pst file that results.   The death of my last computer, my beloved Outlook Express died with him.  I was shocked to know that I had to have Windows Live Mail and he did not support by e-mail.  I'm still scratching my head trying to understand why they would take it away from us when WLM is supposed to be better than OE but can't get a response from Microsoft on this one here.  Best buy got Thunderbird a stationery, but I couldn't use it with Windows 7.  So for two years, I didn't have a paper mill.  I recently discovered that I have Thunderbird on Windows 7, I installed it and have all the stationery that I could wish.  However, for ease of use and the folder options I prefer WLM.  Now, someone just told me that WLM 9 supports HTML for stationery.  By that, I mean like in Thunderbird, I can pull up a 'file', (an image or picture) to My Documents or my pictures in a new e-mail message and use it as stationery and can I download WLM 9 and remove WLM 11.

  When I opened my laptop (always on), windows live mail will automatically connect and checks for new messages. I have 3 email accounts, but one of them receives the same e-mail twice. I contacted my ISP provider and was informed that the messages I get are only on the server once and that Windows Live Mail is the cause.   For beginners... Disable the following in the "Général" tab of Windows Live Mail (WLM) options

  1. to access the general tab--> WLM 2011/2012(Alt F O M) or WLM 2009 (Alt T O)

  -Send and receive messages at startup

  -Search for new messages every minute (s) ' x'

  2. make sure that the account receive duplicate emails is not configured to leave a message on the server (default of WLM is to "leave a message on the server)

  3. continue to use WLM by send and receive in manual mode, if no duplicates re-enable each item one time and repeat the test for the cause.

  If reconfiguration is not working... Post your question in the forum of answers from Microsoft Mail and make sure that you include the type of e-mail account (Pop3, IMAP, Http) with the double problem.  Note: If IMAP double-check your configuration in your web account interface. FYI... recommended are the WLM versions for each operating system: XP (2009), Vista (2011), Windows 7/Windows 8 (2012)

  I recently got a new computer running Windows 7.  I have Windows Live Mail and have tried to open the 'pdf' files attached to e-mails.  When I try to open them I get an error message.  I downloaded the file in the file management section for Adobe and Adobe.  How to open a PDF file without first having to save it on my computer?

  HURT SO BAD!  I had the same problem - I tried the security options in Internet Explorer and Adobe, also the download of unassociate.exe that was put in place for users of Vista and used on the extension pdf without result.  IF YOU USE IT ON THE PDF AND PDFXML extensions, then open Adobe reader and click Help, repair drive installation it works!

  Obviously, you cannot run your life by saving just to open attachments... Adobe has no answers on their site and find the file unassoc.exe on this Microsoft forum was the closest, I arrived to find an answer. When I tried the process a second time, I saw the PDFXML extension just below the PDF extension and took a shot at it.

  Someone at Microsoft needs this fix to make accessible to all the users of Windows 7. I spent 3 hours on the phone with HP support, he tried the unassoc.exe and it did not work for him. I contact them to let them know about this - they put me on the phone with a Manager and he told me they had literally hundreds of phone calls about this.
