Windows Mail - restore alphabetical list to perform A - Z

Windows Mail - Vista - create new message and selecting the recipient opening the box select recipients I have somehow reverse the alphabetical organization of the list, i.e. instead of one at the top for z downstairs I now Z atop a running downstairs.

How to restore the alphabetical list to run from A to Z instead of Z - A?

Just click on the header name and you can change the order back as you wish.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • Windows Mail - restore/recovery process

Certainly appreciate your help. Yesterday my windows mail crashed; I'm in a no-nwtworked stand-alone environment running Windows Mail Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 OS v6.

Is there a way to recover/restore messages and folders?

This new problem has several solutions.

    ·        Do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

If you do not have a floppy disk, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.

If this does not resolve the problem, try the following:

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps (you need an Installation of Vista disc for it - not a diisk recovery):

    1. put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

    2. press a key when you are prompted.

    3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

    4. click on repair your computer.

    5. click on the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

    6. in the System Recovery Options dialog box, click command prompt.

    7. type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup problem, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. In doing so, you ensure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the command prompt Windows RE:

    ·        bcdedit/export C:\BCD_Backup

    ·        c:

    ·        Boot CD

    ·        BCD attrib s h - r

    ·        Ren c:\boot\bcd BCD.old

    ·        Bootrec /RebuildBcd

If you do not have the disc or it does not work, try EasyBCE at http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 and see which allows to solve the ptoblem.

If this does not work, try http://www.nirmaltv.com/2008/05/09/modify-boot-manager-in-vista-with-vistabootpro/ and see if you can fix the problem with this free software.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • Windows Mail staying don't default step

Until recently, Windows Mail was my default program for mail and newsgroups. But I've also used Outlook as another user connected to a different domain. Then I installed MS Office 97, as well as his version of Outlook, which was not compatible. So I uninstalled the old version of Outlook, and the next, I was connected to the other account, I opened the mail with the new version of Outlook. It is configured with no prompt, but then when I logged on my main account the default mail had been reset to Outlook.

I've changed the link in the menu start of Windows Mail and when it came he asks if it should be set by default and I answered Yes. But since then if I closed and reopened Windows Mail it always reports that it is not the default.

If I choose the utility of default programs, it shows Windows Mail (Newsgroups), but the associated files do not include e-mail (.eml) files. Outlook displays the email as not checked. Should I reinstall Windows Mail? Can it be done without a Setup disk?

Here's how to set Windows Mail as the default email association: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/83185-windows-mail-default-associations.html.  If it is already there, then delete it and follow the instructions to add back (by the link in the article).  Note If Windows Mail is not listed, there is a link to add to the set of default programs so that you can choose it provided.

No it's not a registry fix (well, actually it's just that we don't know where he makes the changes - which "s true of most of the applications in the control panel).  Once it is added, check it out and then click on it add as the default for everything what you want that is listed.  We hope to add this way will restore all of the default options, some of which may have been lost or corrupted (if all goes well, including electronic mail).

In the registry key to change the default mail client is stored in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive as follows: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command].  You asked and I finally found him.  The problem is that if we knew the program we want to here instead of what is currently there, that we do not know the commands that follow the simple registration of the path.  For example, mine is Outlook 2007 and it reads: ' "C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~4\Office12\OUTLOOK."» "EXE" - c IPM. Note/m '%1' note all entries that follow Outlook.EXE.  I have not the slightest idea of what they mean, or what would be appropriate if anything for Microsoft Mail (and enter the wrong thing could spoil Microsoft Mail completely - just not not being is not a defect but it can cause the program to function or other damage). A good rule to follow is if you don't know what you doiing in the registry, LeaVE IT ALONE.  I have looked hard for entry but can't find it anywhere.  If you go to try this despite my warnings, then first create a system restore AND registry backup point - then it may be possible to recover, everything what happens.

A word of warning, do not use Registry cleaners, Registry Booster, fixers registry or something like that - none of them are any good, and many of them can cause a lot of damage.  If you have everything installed, removed and never to use again them if you are evaluating your registry and your system base.  It is common knowledge among the 'technicians' but is not widely published.  I've been involved in routed where it causes so much damage that we had to do a clean install as our only option.  Vista does very well on its own.  Don't risk your system by using such a program.

There is no way to reinstall all Windows Mail.  To reinstall Windows Mail, you will need to rei - install the entire Vista operating system (there is no download separated - it is built into the system).  I don't think you want to go this route if you will not even consider a system restore.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Windows Mail Contacts: How can I find the names in alphabetical order A - Z?

    original title: Windows Messaging Contacts

I use Windows Mail in Vista. If I open my Contacts icon, all my names are listed in order alphabetical by last name, except they start from the Z - A instead of A to Z. However, if I click on "New Message", click the "To" box, all names are blurred; that is, they are not in alphabetical order, and I can't get a person with the same name as another. How can I a) find the names in alphabetical order, from A to Z when I click on the box 'To', and b) retrieve my contacts displayed A - Z?

    Thank you.

By clicking on the header above the names of contacts line, they should be used in the other direction. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]

Usually, but not necessarily always, this problem has to do with your Intrenet Explorer or your main browser with NOT all its faults.

Open start > default programs > set your default programs > column on the left, click on Internet Explorer or your main browser...
He said "this program has all its defaults"?
If not, click on choose by default for this program > put on check all entries in the list > OK when finished.

  • Suddenly, all my 'Windows Mail' contacts are blurred, only not in alphabetical order.

    HOW TO SOLVE?

All of a sudden all of my Windows Mail contacts are garbled when I want to select recipients.  The contacts in the folder are in alphabetical order but not the contacts list when I compose an email.  How can I correct this inconvenient situation?

    Hi, J3Webster,

Click on the column header for the column name.  It will sort by name.

After a system crash, restore, all my contacts are still in the main window of Windows mail Contacts, but now when I create a new message and click on 'To', all contacts have disappeared from my list of contacts. How to make their return in the list without having to re-enter them one by one which would take forever? I am running Vista Home Premium.
    Thank you.

  • "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed" when you use Windows Mail

Original title: loss of entrance of Protocol in the list of saved files

I use an old Toshiba laptop of two year with Vista as an operating system. It came with a trial version of Microsoft Office already installed. I had no use for it then after the trial expires I uninstalled. This seems to have created a minor problem with the e-mail program. When I visit a Web site and click on 'Contact us' I get an error message as follows "cannot perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed." I suspect strongly as during the uninstallation of office he removed a protocol in the list entry, similarly, the bottom of the list of the saved files. A check with other similar computers with Vista installed seems to confirm this. If someone at - it a quick fix to this problem? I don't want to resort to installing a whole new email software to fix this minor problem if I can avoid it.

Hello Karena R, yesterday, I downloaded and installed Windows Live Mail, and I must say that I prefer Windows Mail Live Mail program. After making sure that Live Mail is the deafult for all messaging functions and that the entry "Mail Protocol" was now back to the list of saved files, I checked the problem mentioned in my original post. He is not fixed! Another small problem is fixed now if. In my "drafts" mailbox I have some e-mails stored there and when I click on one of them upwards now comes an email with the appropriate address inserted in the address line. Who could not before. I used to get this error message, which is now the new title of my post. So why the difference when I click on email address that I find on Web sites? Now, I also find that by Michael following the instructions (below), I do not see an entry "mailto" but his suggestion to step d. type in "URL Protocol" is not appropriate because it is already there. The installation of an entirely new email software should have my computer all the necessary entries for the new program to function properly in all respects. So what's happening? It begins to look as if uninstalling the program Office has pulled something real Vista operating system.

It's a good thing, I thought of the research on other boards for my missing post.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\mailto

  • List of Windows Mail Contacts

When I want to send an email to someone and click the box 'To' the contact list are not in alphabetical order.

How do I arrange my e-mail contacts list in alphabetical order see after clicking the 'To' box?

Windows Messenger Contact list is always stored in alphabetical order.
It may not SEEM to be just because of the way that you entered addresses.
When you first enter an address, you will notice there is a box for first name and a family name area.
Make sure that do you this for all contacts, and then decide if you want to list first, first name or last name first.
If all the above is done, you will see the list of how you want.
    Example: Last name first
RE: List of contacts - first name
Open Windows Mail > click Contacts > in the window of the Contacts, right-click on the word NAME > click MORE > in the next window, select the name and click MOVE up to move the family name at the front very > click OK.
The list will now begin with the names of family first.

    See pictures of screenshots:

This is how your contacts list will look like, and when you click on the button to, they will also list Lastname first in alphabetical order.
