  To answer the question on the entry of the product key, which is to prevent piracy of software for most (let's call security if you wish).  To be honest, it is not for lack of Microsoft that you have lost the code.  I don't know any way to get it back (I have the Vista code if it was still installed on the system - but not for each installed software).  What is a Microsoft game?  I didn't know this applies to 3 rd party software are well - I'm a little surprised, but it is not quite incomprehensible.

• Windows Live brings my IE7 and Chrome give up...

  Whenever I try to access any email through my Live Id login, IE (like Google Chrome) seem to give up after a few seconds in hotmail.  In the case of Chrome that I first get an error 'unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x08e55639)' then if I click on cancel or OK Chrome then quits.  If I do not click on the box that it seems to work very well.  IE 7 will also sometimes give the same error message box but mostly just closes all tabs and stops.  This error only occurs when I sign into Live Id for e-mail.  Works fine with all other navigation.

  Any ideas on what I might try?  I rebooted Chrome and update patches to IE7 without success on either.  I can't move to IE8 or 9 yet until we get our people IT OK as they are yet to check with our internal applications...

  You have a third-party program, probably Google Chrome or Firefox, which interferes with the Windows Internet connection.

  When you see the message in offline mode , open Internet Explorer and then press Alt + F to open the file menu. If work offline is selected, deselect it. If it is not selected, select it, wait a few moments and then deselect. Now check if Windows Live Mail is still offline. If this is the case, repeat the cycle to select/deselect in Internet Explorer until Windows Live Mail receives the message.
