Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool vs Malwarebyte Anti-Malware

Explain the difference/other services/conflicts between Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and Malwarebyte Anti-Malware.

I currently use Anti-Malware in conjunctgion with KIS 2012.

Hi RW,.

Not precisely.  I say that the Windows Firewall is perfectly adequate, and I don't know any others that provide better protection (but others may have more options of configuration or bells and whistles, some will offer essentially equivalent protection, and some are not as good as Windows Firewall).  Of course, some will say that there are some firewalls that are better than the Windows Firewall, but is no longer a subject of debate and discussion than anything I saw firmly and convincingly demonstrated.  And we know that the Windows Firewall works properly with Windows and other Microsoft products and has great support.  And I never heard of software conflicting with the Windows Firewall, I heard things regarding 3rd party brands - involving mainly browsers, e-mail programs and security as well as configurations of network programs (not just internet, but internal intranet, you can have in your home using cables (, wireless routers/modems, infrared devices, bluetooth, remote deskop (internal or external) devices if used parental controls, interfaces with the security at home and/or surveillance systems wireless devices such as printers or scanners or fax machines and other similar things).

Remember, without a firewall your computer give to anyone trying to access the system through any network or remote connection via the ports.  There are several ports, most average users never need.  The firewall blocks essentially all ports except those that are specifically excluded.  That's where you come in.  Each has a default list of excluded ports.  You must go through this list and remove all exclusions that you know you don't need (and be sure you KNOW what you have blocked before deleting the exclusion).  Each exclusion represent a hole in your security that an attacker could have access.  The less the better.  When I came through the list, I probably cut just a little less than 50% of registrants - but I cut some I used but rarely I would have rather the firewall blocks and make the extra effort to unblock port temporarily the few times that I need to leave open at all times.  Although for Vista, this article will help you understand the basic concepts of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Firewall-frequently-asked-questions.   Attention to the last on the list because it provides links to other articles where you can get better and more information that can help you to choose and decide.

I'm not going to argue here, since you have already the product and more.  This isn't what I would have chosen, but it is probably one of the best on the market suites and much, much better than some other choice, you could have done.  According to me, that it will probably do the job.  Quite simply, I don't know how good it is the Firewall works because I've never used this before then.  It may in fact be just as good and offer more features, or may not provide the same level of protection or cause any problems or conflicts with other programs or with your network (depending on how you setup).  I do not know.  You bought the suite because you wanted more features than just anti-virus protection.

I think you can guess what I personally would do, but I can't advise you on what to do here - it's your software, your computer and your decision to make.  Don't forget that you can always disable the firewall in KIS and activate Windows Firewall (or the reverse), once you choose.  This comment in my post was directed at all the recipients and I didn't change it to you specifically - I mean not that it appear as more accurately you invites to spend now that you have already bought another product.  I was trying to say to people in general, he was no need to spend money on a separate firewall when the Windows Firewall has been excellent and would do the job perfectly well.  However, Windows Defender does NOT provide adequate and afflicted an antivirus program protection must be added (that may or may not turn off defender during the installation) to be sure.

In short, the decision is yours to make.

I hope this helps clarify things.

Good luck and best wishes!

I had to restore my function to return to normal.  This may correct or how I can choose not to install this update & have still "automatic updates?"

Are you sure that the problem is caused by Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool?

First, download the drivers for the device in question and is they don't are not already in a zip file, place them in a backup of the folder on your desktop. Once completed, click Start > run > type or paste mrt.exe > OK. Now run a quick scan. Once completed, check the results to see if the drivers for the device in question are detected as malware. • Trouble updating windows malicious software removal tool, the download does not progress!

Title says it all, during the update live my machine has been slain on 11% for almost an hour during the update to the malicious software removal tool. Any advice?

    Hi L Jaworski,

    What is the updated article?

Restart your computer and turn on your computer in a clean boot State, and then try to update. Problem can be caused by a conflict of third-party software blocking the update process. Clean boot helps eliminate conflicts of third party software.

Note: Follow step 7 to your computer as usual.

Hi, 1 thank you a lot for your responses to my query. You gave me a good lesson on the search for info according to your instructions.

I will definitely read the links on registry cleaning etc.
I came across another thread with the same query as mine and after reading all the reviews, I decided to do the same thing that the "asker" which was to educate Secunia PSI to ignore instructions from manual update for the original program expired. Secunia PSI shows now 100% on my programs updated and everything seems to work OK.
I obviously confused and put in the wrong program for removal in my 1st question.

This thread is that I came across. You may find it interesting to read and will no doubt understand all my comments confused and ignorant!

On 64-bit systems System32 is the 64-bit folder.

  • Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - October 2011 (KB890830) bug

    Hello!

After you install this update on my system I couldn't start over.
My system has 2 to 3 monitors video cards. When I tried to start it, I saw the windows logo and the indicator of loading of the screen where it asks for the password never appeared. Instead, I saw one of my monitors trying to find the signal /it was properly attached. This monitor is the one that is connected to a lb/PO2 Zotac video card. I changed the cable DVI, same result. Tried only two monitors, same result. I wasn't able to boot my system until I pulled my Zotac video card. / Which was in funcitoning properly in the last half of the year / windows started and I managed to do a system restore and everything went back to normal.
I applied the 1 updates by one, and all of them were ok, apart from that 1. When I tried to install it again / after you have created a new restorepoint / after the reboot, windows this time managed to start, but rather my taskbar, I saw a big black box on his place and windows frooze.
I would like to know what'll I please!
If you need additional information pls let me know!

    Kind regards

Why would you use MSRT in the first place?

It is one of the paler malware removal tools, weakest and most powerless you could choose.

Because it receives that updates once a month on Patch Tuesday and other free anti-virus products update their definitions sometimes several times per day, it has no sense for me to even consider adding my system with MSRT.  They have already stopped supporting MSRT on some platforms MS (perhaps because it is so low).

New threats on your system are discovered every day.  Why wait a month and hope MSRT has kept pace with the latest threats?

Remember, Microsoft isn't in the prevention of malware, detection software or moving - company is their specialty and that's not their job.

There are other companies where the removal, prevention and detection of malware is their specialty and that's all they do all day long.

Why are we expect or ask Microsoft to surpass in the areas where it's not their job?  Microsoft is an amateur in the AV business

I can assure you that I can get my system infected a dozen different ways (on purpose of course), which allows to detect any product Microsoft AV.

If you are forced to use a Microsoft product, use Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and combine with MBAM and SAS for analysis on demand.  At least MSE seems to get updates every day or almost.  MBAM and SAS often updated with new definitions of virus several times a day.

I would start with the free version of MBAM and SAS because they cost nothing, they are well respected, reliable and don't install any boot on your computer and they uninstall cleanly if ever there is a need to remove them (there is no trace).  If you want real-time protection, you can upgrade to paid versions.

If you want the best prevention, detection and suppression of results, stick to companies where it is their specialty and not just some marginalize offering.
