  Disabling Mcupdate.exe scheduled task has allowed little to resolve this issue. You can also try turning it off and check for the issue.

Finally, I get a message that the media center had crashed and an error report is sent.  Out of frustration yesterday morning, I have reset media center, no help.  I then remembered that I had deleted silverlight the other day, as I did not so he can be installed.  Maybe my husband said 'yes' to this program.  I reinstalled silver light and low and behold...   Thanks a lot for your help on this. I don't know if this method would work as I finally found a solution after hours of playing with different settings and downloads. For others who are trying, I found that you need the rollup2 update (which I got) If you have this, go to this link www.xbox.co:80 / fr-U.S./PCSetup/MCE05Lite and follow the instructions. I don't know if it works for the extension, however it worked to use my xbox as an Extender.

  KERNELBASE.dll is a file system of the operating system.

  Method 1

  I suggest that you save the file on your computer and check if Windows media player works.

  (a) click the Start button.

  (b) in the search box, type command prompt.

  (c) in the list of results, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  (d) in the type command regsvr32 kernelbase.dll line press ENTER.
