  • Windows Media Center crashes when I try to add extender

About two weeks ago (about 9/30; "I think that was a day after an MSE update), my Xbox 360 suddenly stopped recognizing my Windows Media Center PC. When I would try to set up my Extender, she would get to the first step before you give me an error "cannot set up Extender. I checked to make sure that all services were running, the firewall allowed programs through and so on, but kept getting the same error.

About a week after that, the error "Cannot set up Extender" has been replaced with an error "Windows Media Center has stopped working". It reads: "a problem caused blocking the program works correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. "He was giving me this error whenever I try to add the extension since last week.
I tried disabling my firewall, WCM via the Control Panel, delete the mcepg2 file in the eHome folder, rename the eHome folder, remove mediacenteredatastore.db, tries to connect via another user and all other solutions I found on the forums of uninstalling/reinstalling. I would greatly appreciate it someone could solve this, like many other people, because it seems that there are several issues across the internet on this error. Please let me know if I can provide more information about this error and how to give it. Thank you.

Solved: it was a problem with my router, Actiontec (Rev MI424-WR F). The description of the problem and proposed solution here worked:

    Hello

You will remember to do recent changes on your computer before this problem?
Disabling Mcupdate.exe scheduled task has allowed little to resolve this issue. You can also try turning it off and check for the issue.
Method 1: Disabling Mcupdate.exe scheduled task.
    1. click on start.
    2. in the search box, type Task Scheduler.
    3. under programs, click Task Scheduler.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
    4. in the navigation pane, expand Task Scheduler Library, expand Microsoft, expand Windows and then click on Media Center.
    5. in the details pane, right-click right mcupdate and then click on disable.

Method 2: Rebuild the Media Center data store and see if that can solve the problem. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit any running instance of Windows Media Center.
    b. remove the mcepg2 - 0.db file. By default, this file is located in the following location:
    %SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mcepg2-0.DB
To remove the file, follow these steps:
    i. click on start, type % systemdrive%\programdata\microsoft\ehome, and then press ENTER.
II. in the details, click pane right mcepg2 - 0.db and then click on remove.
III. click Yes to confirm that you want to move the file mcepg2 - 0.db to the trash.
This file will be automatically created once you restart windows media center.
    I hope this helps.

    Hello Janet,.

This problem may occur because of default program settings.

Refer to the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if that helps.

When you run an .exe on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer file, the file can start another program

Change the programs that Windows uses by default

  • Media Center crashes when I go to the TV recording.

I went back to a restore point when I'm sure I could use this program... the same problem.  It seems stuck at loading and when I decide to remove alt, I receive a notice of accident and the screen goes black.  If the TV was at the time, the sound continues.  Can anyone help?  I see the other answer that not did not help me.  I can't find an update for media center, hoping that was the problem.  I have Windows XP computer which means something different.  Thank you.

Thanks you two.  It happened whenever I went on television, record.  One of the fields has been pinned, it does not matter which and would freeze the screen.  The small cirlce would continue to scroll as if it was looking with the mouse or the keyboard would not work. Finally, I get a message that the media center had crashed and an error report is sent.  Out of frustration yesterday morning, I have reset media center, no help.  I then remembered that I had deleted silverlight the other day, as I did not so he can be installed.  Maybe my husband said 'yes' to this program.  I reinstalled silver light and low and behold... Media Center works great!  Why?  Don't know and don't really care, it's recording and I can schedule other programs or watch recorded those.  I am happy!  Thanks for your interest.  Darby

All the patches yet? I saw a large number of entries of "try this" but I haven't seen any which have resulted in a solution,
Thanks for any help on what I would use netflix inside the WMC if possible.

    Hi all

It is a known problem with Netflix in Windows Media Center. It is caused by the presence of a very long user agent string in Internet Explorer. For more information about the agent user channels, see the following MSDN article. There is currently no supported workaround by modifying manually the user agent string can cause problems of compatibility with some Web sites.

  • Windows Media Center crashes on Vista when you try to play Netflix

I can connect to Netflix and discover my queue and all the rest. I can view the details of the episodes and so forth, but when I click on 'Play', Windows Media Center crashes and restarts itself - every time.

There are other problems in Windows Media Center. Sometimes it freezes during the display of other media, such as Internet TV. I had my computer more than a year, and this is the first time I tried to use Windows Media Center, so I don't know if it worked before.

I tried to find an update for it, but all that I've tried say that it applies to my system. (I always install the automatic updates). I also ran the Fix It program, which says it completed, but which did not help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi farrelldoc,

    1. What is the error message you receive library breaks down?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    3. what Microsoft fixit did you run on the computer?

There is a known issue on some computers that have a chain very long user agent in Windows Internet Explorer. This problem occurs when the user-agent string exceeds 260 characters. There is currently no work around supported for that matter.

For more information, see the Microsoft article and try the steps mentioned below.

For the Windows media center crashes when viewing other media issue try the following procedure.

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

On windows media Center, there is no spot on the home screen menu to allow me to add extender? Can anyone offer advice?

    Hi Halam.

Thanks a lot for your help on this. I don't know if this method would work as I finally found a solution after hours of playing with different settings and downloads. For others who are trying, I found that you need the rollup2 update (which I got) If you have this, go to this link www.xbox.co:80 / fr-U.S./PCSetup/MCE05Lite and follow the instructions. I don't know if it works for the extension, however it worked to use my xbox as an Extender.

Now, I have these two pairs, unfortunately I have a new problem. As the menu tasks is not yet here, that I can't go on an Internet browser. Basically I try to videos from websites to my tv via my xbox and I have found a method to be very simple to do, if the menu tasks was on my version of windows media Center. If anyone can offer advice on this, I would be very grateful.

  • Windows Media Center cannot detect the error DVD Windows Media Center cannot detect a DVD in the DVD - ROM drive. Insert a video DVD into the drive

Original title: why Windows Media Center does not detect my DVD?

I built my computer motherboard ASUS P658D, Intel i7 processor clocked at 2.6 gHz, 12 GB RAM, 750W Corsair PWR. power, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit & ie9. When I put or the other two DVDs in one of two DVD players, Windows Media Center appears and when I click on "Play DVD" Media Center give me a window that says:

"Windows Media Center cannot detect a DVD in the DVD - ROM drive. Insert a video DVD in the drive." Two DVDs, I've tried are educational for DVD

my Nikon D300 Digital camera and a family video DVD or both these very well play in a bed of same computer running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, & ie8.

I tried Microsoft Fixit, no help. I tried to send Microsoft Support, and I got NO HELP. I did not bring any changes, and installed any program, just

scoured the internet. A DVD player is a Sony Optarc with Microsoft Driver, the other is ASUS. I also tried to use Windows Media Player but nothing

rises or it returns me to Windows Media Center and it does not detect to play either of my DVD. How can I get help here, or from Microsoft? Thank you.

No, there is no yellow warning in Device Manager and the device manager says that two DVD players work properly. Mr. Fix it's

automated download from microsoft that is supposed to automatically fix some problems, but he provided no help here. I think it is more likely

that there is a problem with Windows Media Center or Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and either of my two new Sony DVD drives

    and ASUS.

I thought my way in a solution. My thought was: Device Manager indicates DVD players work properly and both are new and we're Sony, and the other ASUS so I think only an unlikely problem with readers. The problem is with Windows Media Center "do DETECTED is not the DVD. So there must be a problem with Windows Media Center. I thought that I might need to reinstall Windows 7... then I thought that maybe if I just reinstall Windows Media that will work. He did. My problem was:

Start > Panel > programs and features > features on or off Windows activate > then uncheck the box for multimedia functions > restart the computer > and then re-check the box to restore the multimedia features > now both discs play both DVDs, I tried. Both disks are operating normally. Reinstall the characteristics of media Windows 7 resolved the problem. Thanks to all who offered solutions.

I clicked on "check online for a solution", but nothing came.

I tried to install an earlier version, but was not allowed to do.

How can I solve this problem.

    Hi Nick91606,

KERNELBASE.dll is a file system of the operating system.

    Method 1

I suggest that you save the file on your computer and check if Windows media player works.

    (a) click the Start button.

    (b) in the search box, type command prompt.

    (c) in the list of results, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (d) in the type command regsvr32 kernelbase.dll line press ENTER.

    (e) close the command prompt

    Method 2

If the previous step fails then I suggest that scan you SFC on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.

The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows Vista installation CD.
