Windows Media Center gives error wmp.dll
Original title: Windows Media Center - Vista - does not - please help!
Hello. We had a problem with Windows media center after the SP2 update. We tried a few workaround solutions, and now we get the following error: "C:/windows/system32/wmp.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try to install the program by using the original installation media or contact system support". I was unable to find a download for Windows media center in Vista. Can you help me?
Hi EricLarson_CL,
Method 1: Perform the analysis of System File Checker (SFC) that might help you resolve the issue.
To determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
3. at the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:
sfc/scannow
Follow the instructions in the link below for more information on scan SFC.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212/
Method 2: You can turn off & on Windows Media Center in Windows Feature & check if the problem persists.
Turn on or off Windows features
Method 3: Try to rebuild the Media Center data store and check if it helps:
(a) exit any running instance of Windows Media Center.
(b) delete the mediaCenterDataStore.db file. By default, this file is located in the following location:
%SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mediaCenterDataStore.DB
To remove the file, follow these steps:
(a) click Start and then click on run
(b) in the Open box, type run and then click OK
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
(c) in the Open box, type %systemdrive%\programdata\microsoft\ehome and then click OK.
(d) in the details pane, right-click right mediacenterdatastore.db and then click on remove.
(e) click Yes to confirm that you want to move the Mediacenterdatastore.db file to the trash.
Start Windows Media Center
Note: You may not be able to download Windows Media Center for vista, but it is integrated with the operating system.
Thank you and best regards,

Windows Media Center Configuration error
Hello. I found people with this problem all over the internet but I have yet to get a final solution.
My PC is running Vista Home Premium with Media Center the greats. It is connected to my wireless network.
My Xbox is connected to the network directly, as he's sitting right next to her.
My PC detects the Xbox in 'Network' and it appears as an Extender when I run the Media Center application. My Xbox gives me the 8 digit code and I put it. I said I want to share media, and it then goes to the configuration bit extender. Then it says Configuration error.
I have enabled Media Player via my firewall, open all the necessary local ports and don't have any other firewalls up. I don't know what is happening.
I'd like to get this up and running, so any help is welcome.
EDIT: Just realized this placed entirely in the wrong place. Please move it, mod?

During the registrationof windows media Center recording error
I just reinstalled Windows XP pro on my laptop using the support disc that comes with it. Formatted the C drive and installed. At half way through a message "errors of recording when recording in Windows Media Center." For more information, see - windows/medctroc.log.
After accepting this installation on board after starting a box came up with "Starting windows first time.» Please wait. "Nothing happened and I ended up re start it manually.
Another view "configure." Windows Update - dot.net .net service pack 1.1 - dot - restart
Yet once I had to reboot manually.
error came: sl1a.tmp common language runtime debugging services application has generated an exception that could not be treated have id = 0x4e0 (1248), thread id = 0x4fo (1264)
When widows finally came message read - system will restart - not found ngen.exe entry - point and then - get asked the version of the runtime could not be found in the dynamic binding.
I open IE and try to get updates and a message says "the requested lookup key was not found any active activation context.»
I managed to install Opera, but that is not enough with Microsoft update. Could someone please help?
This looks like one of three things is unhealthy
(1) your installation disc
(2) your RAM
(3) your hard drive,
You must test each and then determine if its more cost effective to replace the unit or machine.
(1) test the drive in another machine with IsoBuster - an analysis of surface and find if everything is OK if there are some errors present
(2) tΘlΘcharger a RAM www.memtest.org - run at least 8 passes Tester and see if errors appear
(3) download the utility from control of the manufacturer of the HD and create the bootable CD - do a quick scan and then the long scan of the hard drive and see what it reports.

Windows Media Center Gets error: invalid Application - cannot start
Windows Media Center (of the month last Vista 32-Bit)
I have problems to make internet TV, news and Netflix to connect to the internet when you use Windows Media Center. They are all under the TV + movies option during the WMC. I get an error saying [invalid Application - cannot start "" ""]. Not sure if this is because the internet connection that I use is not one that has a user name or password. Not know how to configure it for this version of Windows. I don't get this problem when you use Windows Media Center in Windows 7.
At the opening of Windows Media Center I get the following message: INVALID APPLICATION; "Unable to launch SymAddin; and a checkbox to disable this Application (I have not checked the box).

Video Windows Media Center HDMI error problem
I noticed this problem scattered on these forums, and it took me some time to find the solution on other forums, but thought I'd post it here. For people using some graphics cards ATI HDMI with windows 7 MCE, trying to play Dolby Digital sources causes the MCE crashing. The error will say something in terms of "video error... in windows media center must be restarted." This happens about 10 seconds after the video with audio playback SD. I tried to play with all the different types of codecs ffdshow and AC3Filters etc.
The solution is in fact a major bug in windows 7. To work around this problem MCE7 and windows sound properties cannot assign 5.1 speakers. You define the sound properties in 7 Stereo 2.0 and keep the MCE to 5.1 for dolby Digital encoded files without MCE game crashing. I hope that MS will make a fix for this because it is a serious problem, and the solution is not easy to find.
I have a ZOTAC ZBOX ND02, dual ATI 750U Tuners and Windows 7. Reloaded the o/s once to resolve quickly the it and returned. Spends hours on the subject. Switching to 2 speakers in the MCE Assistant did the trick. Thanks for the tip. Phew!

Problem installing Windows Media Center: get error 'no IR hardware found ".
I keep getting stuck trying to set up my tv tuner in my HP Pavilion laptop dv4 (entertainment version), I have a satellite signal, a TV HP Hybrid Tuner (which did not come with a large part of the documentation. So I get through all the setting up until the last section, where it says "my remote control must be able to change the channel on my set - top box and that"no IR hardware not detected"he also tells me to see my hardware documentation (zero to watch), so I'm stuck...» Help, please!
You need to trick MS media center. To implement, choose manual configuration. Then the antenna. Analog. Finishing.
Go to the main configuration of media center page. Click on TV. Guide. Add a channel. I added 3. Now I just use my remote for my cable box to change channels...
So far, it works like a charm... Good luck, hope it works for you!

I had to install a new hard drive after the death of my old. I use my Dell recovery/reinstallation disk. The first time I tried installing that it froze after the reboot. I then did a repair installation (twice) and each time got the following error:
PxShare.exe Application error.
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000135). Click OK to close the application.
It appears at the end of the installation, but when my login screen is displayed, it shows only one account, administrator and request a password. I have not configured any accounts when I did the installation and you do not have a password. I tried to enter without password, using admin as password and check-in safe mode did not help - it still asked for a password.
I don't know if the two problems are related or not.
Thanks for any help!

"Windows Media Center is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled"
I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition and Windows Media Center gives me an error that reads "Windows Media Center is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled." When I try to install Windows Media Player from the Microsoft website I gives me an error saying I need to download "Update cumulative 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition". Once I have download, I get a different error message indicating that I have to download '.NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.2 SP1' before I can continue with the update for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I download that and received a message that is not a valid Win32 application. I can not understand what is happening or how to fix it. I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling, but over the years, I lost track of the product key. Does anyone know how can I fix? Thank you, in advance.

Well, work on my sister-in-law's computer and the problem is that a certain MP3 player someone got for Christmas is only compatible with Windows Media Player. For some reason any, when the guys from the Geek Squad traveled reload them Windows XP on the computer, Windows Media Player does not get installed. I try to go through the Microsoft Web site to download Windows Media Player 11 (recommended by Microsoft for XP users) and the end result is an error message indicating that, in order to download this version, you must have Windows Media Center 2005 or newer installed on your computer. I try to go to the site and me this Windows Media Center 2005 and the Web site links to the download of Windows 7, which we do not want to do, with a link to "Download Windows Media Center now. Which takes me to a page explaining how to use WMC, then gives me a link to get the WMC, which brings back me to the download page of Windows 7, to infinity. There are no Windows Media Center on this computer, and we would like to get Windows Media Player for XP. How this is done?

Error "Invalid Application" - failed to launch at the launch of Windows Media Center.
Original title: Windows Media Center Edition:
Current operating system: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP2, latest MS Silverlight installed
Freshly installed, all updates up to SP2, whenever I have open Windows Media Center, and then select Internet TV (TV + movies) I get an error stating:
«INVALID APPLICATION - unable to launch «»
Nothing opens and I see all the icons TV. I then click on the OK button and the app closes back to TV + movies (TV recorded - by default). I can click on Play DVD, no problem. I can click on the Netflix plugin (once again no problem). The question seems to exist ONLY when I select 'Internet TV'. I don't have a TV Tuner card in the machine, as well as setting up is not an option.
Note: I am a COMPUTER technician for over 20 years and have researched the matter only of trying many fixes that don't work not including:
- sfc/scannow (does report no error)
- CHKDSK (no corruption of reports)
- reinstalled MS silverlight
- Installed the Netflix option
- Parameters, make sure all the General internet settings are selected correctly
- Disabling the firewall/AV
- Change Windows MCE receiver opening Service of the Local Service Network Service logon
Except to call Microsoft and forking over $99 - nobody knows what is the cause?
Additional information:
After starting Windows Media Center, and then selecting TV + movies, under the heading Internet TV a bit dimmed it says "BETA". Not sure if this has something to do with it. Also on my laptop which has Windows 7, the Windows Media Center interface is different and seems to work without problems. What gives?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Microsoft abandoned Internet TV from 9/20| Freshly installed, all updates up to SP2, everytime I open Windows Media Centerthen select Internet TV (from TV + movies), I get an errorBarbMVP - Windows/entertainment and connected homePlease mark as answer if that answers your question -
I have a HP computer with Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) Service Pack 2. He has a VISX PureTV tuner card and already had an NVidia GeForce 8400 graphics card. This Setup has worked well for 2.5 years until what the graphics card died last week. It has been replaced with an ATI Radeon HD3450 and both all Windows updates have made current. Since that time, the TV tuner did not work.
When you sign in to an account, it gives the error message "Windows Media Center Receiver Service stopped working and was closed". I can use Media Center to watch the recorded video before, but if I try to watch live TV he hangs up and close Media Center. If I try to configure the TV connection in Media Center it tells me that there is no tuner card.
I looked at the map and see no problem and I tried it back in place. He has the most up to date drivers (so does the new Radeon graphics btw). I tried "Uninstall" in the Manager of devices and then put it back, but it was not good.
"Windows Media Center Receiver Service Stopped Working and was closed" I tried all the fixes I've seen this error.
I tried all the things I saw here and elsewhere related to this issue. I did a "clean boot" with all non-Windows services and the disabled startup process. He always did the same thing and gave the same mistakes. It seems to be linked to a Windows service, and I hesitate to begin deactivation to track down.
I ran 'sfc' in mode 'cmd' and he found no problem and none of the files to be fixed or could not fix.
In the list of services, I changed the login for "Windows Media Center Receiver Service" to "Local System account", Local Service, Network Service and individual accounts, but no permits.
I'm afraid I'm at the point of having to reload the Vista, but I don't know how to do this and want to avoid at all costs. I don't have the recovery disks and software. Is this enough? Can I reinstall from the recovery disks without wiping everything aft of the configuratiion with which it was delivered? I guess personal files will be OK (although I don't know this for sure), but I'm afraid I'll have to reinstall other applications, my family has developed over time and perhaps lose the media protected by DRM licenses.
Someone has encountered anything like this or have any suggestions?
Well, I finally stumbled into the solution. It was caused by a conflict with another application.
A few weeks before the card failure I had installed a program called video capture Replay Video Capture that I had bought a few months ago and never used. However, at this time where everything including the TV tuner and Media Center worked well that's why I associate the problem with this software. The problem comes after the system is rebooted the first time after installation. In my case, it has not been rebooted until a few weeks later as part of the recovery of the fault of the graphics card. Suddenly, the TV tuner did not work and I get the error messages mentioned in this title of the thread.
I was at the end of my rope with this and was just to clean your system to do a reformat and reinstallation. I uninstalled the Replay Videa Capture program to move it to another computer, and when you restart the computer I noticed that the error message disappeared. Of course I went to the Media Center and could set up my TV tuner card and watch television.
Looking for some info on this conflict, I found the following. (http://forum.applian.com//showthread.php?847-Conflicts-between-RVC-and-XP-Media-Center-OS&s=c0aec9897b51d550c47b919e73e59bfc) It is difficult to say who is at fault in the present. I'm sure that Microsoft accuses Applian for the encoder to mpeg (mcm2ve.ax) used in Replay Video Capture, while Applian says that the problem is a Windows process (ehrec.exe) that works all the time, hogging the tuner on the system device. According to Applian other products similar to theirs have this conflict as well due to the process of Windows.
Fortunately, there is a solution in this case. Applian has released a new version of Replay Video Capture (version 4.2) that uses a different mpeg encoder and eliminates the problem. Given the surprising lack of info about it on the Microsoft Web site, I wonder how many other people with this unresolved issue dealing with the same thing as me. If you're like me and you don't usually need to reboot your PC for a few weeks at a time, you may never know to associate the problem with the application. What a waste countless hours trying to diagnose, and most disconcerting, that's what I was about to go through a reformat and reinstall because of this.
Thought I'd post here my problem resolution in the hope that it might help someone else.
