Windows Media Center won't play DVD. This program has played these exact DVD in September. These DVDs can be played on other devices. Error message indicates that there is a problem with the decoder, but don't tell me the code of error message. I searched other forums, but it is impossible to find an answer to this problem, except the recommendation of a codec - although I don't know how I "lost" the codec in the month. Microsoft Security Essentials have installed and up to date, if it is not a virus. Hello cowgurlup55,

In addition to the response of Santosh, please relay if the problem occurs when you play a DVD or a single. Please also relay if the same problem occurs when you try to play the DVD with Windows Media Player.

In addition, if you have an extra DVD decoder installed, then try to update the DVD decoding software.

  • Windows Media Center won't play video, but Windows Media Player will be?

I'm reading a video .avi with the xvid codec. I installed the codec earlier and it plays fine in Windows Media Player, but when I try to play in Windows Media Center, it indicates that one or more codecs are required to play this file, but they cannot be found. I know I would just watch with Windows Media Player instead of Media Center, but I want to watch it on my Media Center extension (my Xbox). I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit. Why does Windows Media Player with this codec and Windows Media Center not work? How can I solve this problem?

    -Slick05_1

    Hi Slick05_1,

Thanks for the replies on the forum.

Given that the Microsoft Vista Media Center and XBOX do not play the files suggest it would need to be a codec which solves the problem or maybe file conversion which would solve the problems you are experiencing.  Since the codecs for files is not something written by Microsoft, we do not have the information for that in our system.

What I suggest is to go to your search engine preferred and in the search line and typing "is possible to play VLC on XBOX.

    WARNING:

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

What I suggest also done an online search using your favorite search engine for "play MKV files in Vista x 64 Media Center" to find whether there may be suggestions about codecs or these codecs created by other organizations then Microsoft.

Please let us know if you are able to get this to work for you.

  • I have upgraded to Windows XP Professional and now Windows XP Media Center won't play DVD - component missing.

Now I have Windows XP Professional after the upgrade to Windows XP Media Center Edition Home 2005. Now my Media Center won't play DVDs and I keep getting the error message "Missing Component". I tried to reinstll cumulative update 2 for Windows XP Media Center 2005 that has worked for me the last time I had this problem, but now I get the Error Message "you must have Windows XP Media Center 2005 installed to get this download and it shows already on my computer as installed components. When I reinstalled it 3 years ago he corrected the problem of DVD. Help, please

Thank you for your help. Here are the answers your request:

"Windows XP Media Center version 5.1 Edition - this shows when I"run"- winver - ok.
Complete error message: "Missing Component - required component Media Center is.
missing. Please contact the manufacturer of your hardware.
KB article: WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB900325 - usa .exe
The windows of origin is always on display as shown above, but I received a free upgrade to Windows XP Professional CD and installed on my computer. And under 'Information system', it shows as - Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3.

This problem started about 10 days when I used the CD of XP Professional to correct a problem. My computer is a Dell Dimension 5100 and I have two CDs that were sent to me - Dell - Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP 3 and Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with update Rollup 2.

Thanks again and I ran the "fix it" you suggested but it have no problem found to fix. Every thing works fine on my system, but Media Center won't play DVD. It will play CDs and videos on my system.

The initial problem was that I could not download the Blackberry Desktop Software - updates needed. The computer came with Windows XP Media Center Edition Home and I use Internet Explorer 8 as my default browser. I also use Mozilla Firefox as my backup browser.

Please stick to your thread to avoid confusion of origin: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_update/i-have-upgraded-to-windows-xp-professional-and-now/f5245962-e9b4-4415-8aff-bc1d972f8120

Note that I asked you to MOVE your original thread on the forum of material WinXP, not start a new thread.

Also note that you don't have NO Windows XP Media Center Edition, installed now if you upgraded to Windows XP Professional.

PS: If "winver" still says Windows XP Media Center Édition, did you not correctly upgraded & something is not. Better contact the Dell Support on this issue (if they'll still talk to you).

Windows Media Player won't play the .zip files. How to see or play these files? I'm 67 and not tech savvy thanks for the help.

    Hello

ZIP files are compressed, so you need to unzip and then play the content if the
content is of type WMP files.

Compress and uncompress files (zip files)

Just to make sure there is a CD... check Audio (music) the

see you on the CD should be .cda

Could be a total waste of time, but I think I'll try

It seems that you did not actually transfer files... did you
check files on the jumpdrive to see if they would play?

Might be interesting to try another.

  • Windows Media Center will not play netflix and guest says library is not

    Hello

    Method 1:

I would suggest you click on the link provided below, proceed and check if it helps.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/972496

    Method 2:

You can also face this problem if your Windows Media Player database is damaged, you can delete the database of Windows Media Player. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

(c), select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note: you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If the above does not solve your problem then clear cache of database of Windows Media Player files. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoftand then click OK.

    (c) select the folder Media Player and then click on Delete on the file menu.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

    Hope this helps

  • Windows Media Center will not play a DVD, I get video with a loud noise and no soundtrack.

When you try to play a DVD in Windows Media Center or media player, the video starts, but there is a loud cracking sound with no sound of music.   This Media Center has played the DVD in the past.
My system is: Vista Home Premium
    NVIDIA GeForce 8500
    Hauppauge Win TV HVR-1600
    Realteck HD audio
    ViXS Pure TV - U 48BO

I checked these devices using HP Hardware Diagnostic tools and they work.  I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled.  Also updated all the drivers.

Reading this forum, I tried to delete the file from library: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Medial Player

So far, nothing has solved the problem.

    Thank you for your response.

I went through the steps.  He has not fixed the problem.  The good news is that I stumbled upon a fix.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek Audio drivers.  Which corrects the problem.

Media Windows Player does not support the .mov file format.
Go on the web, google for a FREE video converter.
Use the converter and modify the video .mov to WMV.
    Play again. Should work now.

  • Media Center won't play recorded video

All my recordings are protected recorded video HBO on my hard drive of the PC. When I read them to my PC using Windows Media center only monitor, all play. When I use a USB to HDMI converter directly to my TV, some of them play, but some give me the error "display drive errors: video playback device does not support protected content playback. Since it is a direct connection to my TV from my PC where are stored the videos, I don't understand why this is not allowed. Is anyway to get Media center to recognize this device? Charles, I looked towards the top of the map that you said that you used in the first thread you
started earlier this month. There is no indication that
    HDCP is consistent.

I read a few pages of the magazine for this device on Amazon. Most people
who looked at it to use it as a monitor. A few people mention a message
    not HDCP.

I don't have any other "answer" for you. I'm sorry.
