Windows media player (11) starts, but does not play file

When I double-click an audio file, WMP opens but then does not play the file.

MP3 and WMA (and other formats) files are configurΘ for dΘmarrer with default WMP and video files to various formats still work very well.
I can get the audio to play by doing a right click and select 'Open with' - 'WMP '.  Drag and drop files into the playlist now also does not work.
I'm under WMP 11 on XP Pro version.
Any ideas?

This just started recently?
If so, what has changed?

Try to uninstall the codec pack, it can cause conflicts, play media files.

If the problem persists, try reinstalling the Media Player and test.

In addition, you can test a corrupted profile by testing under a new account:

Can someone help me?  I have a problem with the recognition of music files (MP3, WMA, etc.) in Windows Media Player 12 (version 12.0.7601.17514).  I'm on Windows 7, 64-bit, on my computer tower to my main hard drive. I store my media (mainly), MS Office, PDF, and other various files on disc 2 of the secondary, internal size TB.  I have an external USB hard drive enclosure I can insert my player with internal 2 TB.  This allows me to take my multimedia files with me on vacation at home.  I can use this external box to read the media on other people's computers files, when I go on vacation.  When I put the internal drive in the external case in media players, the files appear, but do not work.  Their Player Windows Media displays a red "X" next to a lot of music album files and, when these red "Xs" appear, they appear in a cluster through the album of music together.  On my home computer, these Reds 'Xs' do not appear!  Another thing, some of the albums mysteriously disappear and reappear weeks later.  However, some of the files, when I play, his corrupt and static as in some places.  Sometimes the music files will play at Midway until it cuts and a red 'X' appears.  What happens here?

    Hello

You can try the following steps and check:

We will try to run the Windows media player and settings library tool and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

Resolution of the problems of the open Windows Media Player library:

If your computer has problems to play video or audio files in Windows Media Player, try using the troubleshooting Windows Media Player settings Troubleshooter to fix the problem. This utility checks the configuration settings and network for Windows Media Player to ensure that you can play the content you downloaded and saved on your computer, or content streaming over a network or the Internet.

    Step 2:

Resolution of the problems of the open Windows Media Player settings:

If your computer has problems to access your collection of digital media files in the Windows Media Player library, try to use the of the Windows Media Player library Troubleshooter to fix the problem. The troubleshooter makes sure that Windows Media Player is installed correctly on your computer and checks if the Player library is corrupted.

  • Windows media player 11 in XP does not play DRM files

I have a new installation of SP3 and the latest WMP11 on XP Home.

I get this error when I try to play any DRM file any provider:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/Webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.5721.5262&ID=C00D11B1&ContextId=71&OriginalID=80070057
You met the C00D11B1 error message when you use Windows Media Player.
    Original Original error error Code
80070057 one or more arguments are invalid.

All other types of video or audio files that are not protected by DRM play without problem, so there is no problem with the audio device or the ID3 headers because none of the DRM files I've tried are MP3s.

Many hours of research I find that the error is returned for various problems. I tried all the solutions, and none of them solve the problem.  It may be missing or conflicting codecs like all types of files not DRM play without problem. The quartz.dll is recorded and uncorrupted. I reinstalled WMP11 several times. I have reset the DRM with Microsoft tools both Netlix and individualized WMP11 using several MS individualazition sites and by force using the command-line of the several times with each reinstall.

The last thing I tried is to use the resetDRM tool and not to individualize and then installed Amazon Unbox for rentals and video purchases. I ran the troubleshooting included in Unbox and let individualize WMP11, then troubleshooting reported no problems with my set-up. I downloaded a free file short Amazon and although he'll play the Amazon unbox player, trying to read the file in WMP11 always returns the same error as before and therefore trying to play one of the other DRM files I have.

If someone has another solution or an idea of what to check that the usual suspects?

    Hello

Sometimes, this problem can be caused contributions file included with the MP3 ID3 headers. Make a copy of the file and then use an ID3 tag non - editing program Microsoft to remove or reset the file's ID3 headers.

    Caution:

    • Try to remove ID3 headers might damage the file and make it unplayable. Therefore, always make a copy of the file before editing.
    • Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

A: apparently, this is caused by a mixup of version in the registry. If you get rid of the incorrect information, Media Player will stop complaining and run very well. Here's how:

    * Click on the round of departure.
    * Enter REGEDIT.
    * When you are prompted, click on continue or enter an administrator password.
    * In the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed key versions. Just like you should navigate in a certain folder in Windows Explorer.
    * In the right pane find three values named wmp.dll wmplayer.exe and wmploc.dll.
    * Click each of these values in turn, and then choose Delete on the shortcut menu.
    * Close the registry editor

Media Player should now load without any gripes. -Neil j. Rubenking.

  • Windows Media Player duplicate songs shows, does not show album titles or art of Seagate NAS Media Server

I just bought a Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110, copied my music to her collection (a big bunch of WMA and MP3 files) and activated the press service that would allow my music to be listened traveled with other DLNA devices.

I then pulled up to my Windows 7 laptop and opened Windows Media Player. The NAS media appeared immediately. I clicked on "The Album->" under the name of server. Here is what I get:

-All photos are displayed in the list

    -No album art

-L' artist album appears usually (but), instead of the title of the album

-Some albums are displayed with duplicates (2 or even 3 copies) of each track

What happens here? Is there a problem with the Seagate DLNA implementation? Windows Media Player is getting confused somehow?

    Reference:

    http://www.Seagate.com/www/products/external/BlackArmor/blackarmor_nas_110

    Hello

    ·        Have you tried to connect the Seagate BlackArmor NAS (Network Attached Storage) 110 on another computer and checked display it music files?

To delete duplicate entries, click on another tab of feature in the Player (for example the current playback), then library.

If this does not remove duplicates from your library, you can add it to the library of the computer search dialog box to analyze a file on your computer the entries double invalid pointing. The player will remove invalid entries in your library that point to files that no longer exist in the folder.

    Method 1:

To use the Add to library dialog box search for computers.

    1. start Windows Media Player.

    2. press F3 on your keyboard to open Add to the library of the computer search dialog box.

    3. click on the Browse button to locate the file on your computer so that your library contains invalid entries. Specify the location of the folder in the box look in.

If you are not sure what duplicate in your library entry is not valid, you can add a path column to display in your library.

    4. specify the folder on your computer that matches the path invalid file displayed in your library.
    Click on the Search button.

The player will search for digital media files and playlists in the folder that you specify and remove invalid entries in your library that point to files that no longer exist in the folder. If not valid in double entries point to other folders on your computer, repeat this procedure, specify a different folder every time.

If only a small number of duplicate entries exist, you can delete those invalid manually by double-clicking the invalid entry and then clicking on delete.

If you have a large number of entries in doubles in your library (or if your library is duplicated), it might be better to create a new library.

    See the article mentioned below.

    Getting started-Windows Media Player

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/getting-started-with-Windows-Media-Player

    Method 2:

You can delete the Windows Media Player databaseand check.

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. for Windows 7: click Start, run, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player and then click on OK.

    3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Method 3:

Erase Windows Media Player database cache filesand see if that solves the problem.

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. If you are running Windows 7, click Start, run, % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

3 select the folder Media Player , and then click delete on the file menu.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

For more information, see the article mentioned below.

Windows Media Player library: frequently asked questions

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/Windows-Media-Player-library-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 4:

How can I prevent double or invalid entries to be added to my library when I play music files?

When you move digital media files on your computer, the file name and file path information remain unchanged in your library. Then when you select a file to play to its new location, a new entry is created in your library if you select the option automatically added to your library when played. As a result, your library can quickly contain a large number of entries, duplicate or invalid.

To prevent it be automatically added to your library of music files

    1. in Windows Media Player, click the Tools menu, Options.

    2. on the Player tab, clear music to add to the library when played check box.

    Thanks and regards.

    Method 2:
You can try to re - register wmp.dll file.
Type the following command in the command prompt administrator mode and press ENTER.

    regsvr32 wmp.dll
Press ENTER after typing the command. If you get a message like wmp.dll registered correctly, and then click OK in this message box. Close the command prompt and re - open Windows Media Player and check.

    Dear friends,

I notice a problem to update my album information. I recorded a small screen cast for so I hope this helps to demonstrate.

I tried to reset the library, are most of the songs/music to AAC (iTunes, no DRM) format.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It eventually will come back so I don't know if it is a bug or just design.

    Thank you, in advance.

    Hello

    1. are you able to update the information of the album for other types of files?

Try to read the file in the clean boot state and then update the info from the album and check.
See the article below for instructions on how to start your computer in a clean boot state.
