Windows Media Player error when you try to play a CD: C00D1197

I played the CD/DVD on my laptop (windows vista) with no problems.  I popped in a DVD and it plays very well.  When I jumped into a music CD, (the one I've played a dozen times) I "Error Message C00D1197."  When I went to my computer and clicked on the CD/DVD player - he said that he had NO CD/DVD read and spit my CD.  When I put my rear DVD - no problems.  Put in a CD, a CD, I get an error message. That's happened? I did something different.  I wonder if the new window updates caused the problem.  Unfortunately, I am not that computer savvy to be messing around on my laptop to see.  Can you help me? PLEASSSSEEEE.  Thank you! : o).

  • Windows Media Player error when you try to read the file: error downloading codec

I have updates for the 9 Series Player and I'm happy with it.  If I move up to 10 or 11, codecs and drivers will work with it automatically or will I have the same problem?

  • Windows media player crashes when you start cd play

When I insert a CD in windows media player, screen freezes when cd starts playing and the sound is chopy.

    Hi RonnieDean,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. Are you experiencing a similar problem with a CD you are trying to play using Windows media player?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

See the link below and run the fixit tool available, check if it helps.

Solve the problems of Windows Media Player video and other media or library

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_media_player_diagnostic/

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. Click Start , and then click run.
    2. Type msconfig , and then click OK.
The System Configuration utility dialog box appears.
    3. Click the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services , and then click OK.

If the game was previously installed and worked fine then maybe it is not been completely uninstalled.
I suggest you uninstall the game, look in the registry for any left over entries that can refer to the game.

Then restart and reinstall the game.

Alternatively, you can try to install in compatibility mode. If the program is not compatible, then you try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.
