I suggest that you try to reset the media library. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:
-Restart the PC.
-Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. If its status is started, double-click on the service and click on stop.
-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this folder, delete the folder Media Player. If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
-Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt. Check if the problem persists. -
Windows Media Player 12 (WMP 12) are not saving the data in the library
Hi all, been having a few problems with WMP 12, because I reinstalled Win7 enterprise following an upgrade of the processor (from AMD to Intel, had to reinstall). Since that I had two problems, both probably originate in the same root. Everytime I open WMP I see "There is no data in your library", until it scans the hard drive for files. It's true that if I let this scan for 30 minutes, then turn off and on. He simply has no information, period. Secondly, when it filled with information, it mentions two copies of each song.
My personal theory is that it could be caused by an old cache of WMP log are stored somewhere on the PC. Perhaps WINDOWS.old? Please keep in mind it was a reinstall of W7 W7 E E again. Theories, ideas or legal remedies will be appreciated. The problem seems localized to WMP, my libraries (pictures, videos, etc.) and everything seems to be intact however.
I tried to change the location of the file, only to have WMP search folders for some and a few other things (disabling, allowing streaming media, for example) are stored within my installation of W7 HD and another HD in the same machine.
Hi SRedX,
Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.
Try to manually add files to Windows media player and see if the problem still occurs.
Method 1:
This problem may be due to database corruption. You can delete the Windows Media Player database and check if the problem persists.
Steps to clear the database of windows media player:
1. exit Windows Media Player.
2. click on start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
3. Select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.
Note You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.
4. restart Windows Media Player.
Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:
1. exit Windows Media Player.
2. If you are using Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft and then click OK.
If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft and then click OK.
3. Select the Media Player folder, and then click on Delete on the file menu.
4. restart Windows Media Player.
Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Windows media player music disappears reappears does not recognize files
Can someone help me? I have a problem with the recognition of music files (MP3, WMA, etc.) in Windows Media Player 12 (version 12.0.7601.17514). I'm on Windows 7, 64-bit, on my computer tower to my main hard drive. I store my media (mainly), MS Office, PDF, and other various files on disc 2 of the secondary, internal size TB. I have an external USB hard drive enclosure I can insert my player with internal 2 TB. This allows me to take my multimedia files with me on vacation at home. I can use this external box to read the media on other people's computers files, when I go on vacation. When I put the internal drive in the external case in media players, the files appear, but do not work. Their Player Windows Media displays a red "X" next to a lot of music album files and, when these red "Xs" appear, they appear in a cluster through the album of music together. On my home computer, these Reds 'Xs' do not appear! Another thing, some of the albums mysteriously disappear and reappear weeks later. However, some of the files, when I play, his corrupt and static as in some places. Sometimes the music files will play at Midway until it cuts and a red 'X' appears. What happens here?

Windows Media Player - no audio during video playback
Windows media player
I am running Windows XP. Windows Media Player opens successfully, I have audio but not video. I tried to reinstall, update etc. Still nothing.
Hi jeffwebs,
1. did you of recent changes on the computer?
2 when was the last time it was working fine?
3. you receive an error message during playback of video files?
4. What if the problem occurs with all video files read using Windows media player?
It is likely that the codec is correct / encoder is not installed or is installed but has been corrupted by another program.
A codec is a software to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or a video. Windows Media Player and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.
A codec can consist of two components: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder performs the compression function (coding) and the decoder performs the decompression function (decoding). Some codecs include both components and some codecs only one of them.
Follow the steps listed in the section below to download codecs for this problem.

Hi Joseph,
What is the file format of the file you are trying to download?
This problem normally occurs when the Media player could not play the file downloaded or not supported.
Method 1:
Step 1: Here is the list of the formats supported by Windows Media player file:
Information on the types of media files that supports Windows Media Player:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/316992
Note: See if the file format is in this list, if it is not there, you may need a third-party codec that can read the file.
Step 2: For more information about codecs, see article given:
Codecs: Frequently asked questions:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/codecs-frequently-asked-questions
Warning: using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.
Method 2:
I also suggest you to run the Windows media player Fixit:

Windows Media Player has stopped working, as well as the sharing of multimedia files
My husband told me that he has always had difficulty to play the DVD on WMP. I discovered that it would not play because there was a problem with the audio. I couldn't find the solution to this problem. However, we were able to play, burn and rip CDs until what we downloaded Windows SP2 for Vista Home Basic (32 bit), two days ago. Since then, we have not been able to open the app, and the WMP network sharing Service. I tried to run the Setup program, but it is said that there is a newer version of WMP and it will not replace or repair. I wanted to see if I could find a solution to this problem without having to resort to reinstalling Vista or restore to an earlier point. I also noticed that when the WMP application has been updated July 15 to the new version below, there were times this video Web sites would not play and we would have to restart the computer so that we can read them. Hello Henry Michael,.
Please relay the e-mail program you use. You can also try to save the file directly on your local computer, and then check if the file is being read correctly. If there has been any recent codec package installation, you can also try to temporarily uninstall the codec package and then check out the question.
Thank you
