Windows Media Player very slow on network

After having upgraded to Windows 7, I noticed that Windows Media Player 11 is painfully and stupidly slow, during the handling of the media streamed on my network.

A playlist with just 100 items may take minutes to load and actually it scrolling... Well, glacial activity seems fast in comparison. I actually cannot scrolling playlists from a PC on a network - it's this slow. It is enough to click the scroll bar and hope I hit to the right place!

Once that she's going to get, that's fine. The media broadcasts nicely and theres no lag. However, for the first two minutes, I can't jump on video, or pass them / prev item...

Is this a known issue? Perhaps with knowledge to solve?

Boring technical details:

PC running Win 7, server with media running Windows Vista SP2.
While the server is not exactly modern, do not this slow - it responds very well when you use desktop to distance or standard network of navigation, for example.

Playlists are created by mounting the disc of servers and just drag media in the playlist. Nothing complicated.

Any help would be appreciated!

Kind regards

Søren Andersen

Do not be anxious, but bump :)

WMP 11 will never work in Windows 7. WMP 12, it's what works. Programs and features / 'Activate Windows features and turn off' has a check box for this.

  • Windows Media Player 12 - slow to update the library

I have a big disco 50K more songs.  I recently moved the music to a harsh new Bank and changed the directory structure.  I deleted the music library WMP (by removing everything C:\Users\###\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player), open from WMP12 and so went to file/manage libraries added in each of the directories music where the music is stored.  As expected, WMP began to read music and I can see the songs populating the library as they come.

The problem is that this is happening very slowly.  As about 2 seconds per song.  At this rate, it will be almost 4 days of continuous operation to completely rebuild the library.  I got it done in the past (but maybe not with WMP12?), but never experienced this kind of snails pace update.  Any ideas on what could be causing it to ad to the library files so slowly or what I can do to speed things up to?

    Thank you

-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this file, rename the old Media Player like Media Player folder. If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.

  • Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service or a service it depends on failed to start. (Windows 8)

A problem occurred recently in which I can't stream my music from WMP with other devices in the home as my Xbox 360 group. It has always worked well and this is the first time, it's happened. When I tried to connect my PC to the Xbox, my PC has appeared on the list, but when it connects a reason any. I then went to my PC to make sure that everything was in order. I open Windows Media Player and watched the streaming options. Everything was going in order, except that the media from my computer was turned on not a reason any. I clicked on ' turn streaming media on "and it led me to the page of the control panel option. It reads simply "media streaming is not enabled" (as well as usual and precautions which not). I clicked on the button below "streaming media turn on. This is where my problem appears. Loads of my computer and nothing happens. I tried a few times and he told me then that the title of the question says. He then invites you to me to go to the service administrator tools. So I did and I went through the list of services until I found than the one titled "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. He was not running although it should be automatically. I clicked on it and press start and it says "Windows cannot start the service on Local computer" with error 1068: the dependency service or group could start.

If anyone has a solution I would be very happy. I tried to be as complete as I could in the description.

I had this problem as well, with 8.1 widows.  On the Dependencies tab, I had two components, the HTTP Service and Windows Search. I found that Windows Search has been disabled.  I don't know how it's spent, but allowing him to corrects the problem.

    Original title: Media Player

I am new on this forum and not particularly computer.

I spent most of today trying to get my new Sony Micro Hi Fi to a wireless network with my computer to listen to music from my hard drive.
I use Windows XP home and Windows Media Player 11.
I managed to make a connection between my computer and the Hi Fi, but the Hi FI maintains e-mail "No Server"
In Media Player, if I'm going to Library / Media Sharing icon CMT MX700... is displayed in the window but the 'Allow' button is not active, so I can't leave.
If I click on the 'Settings' button and go to this page, I have the box "allow computers and new devices automatically" checked.
I checked the router multicast TP Link setting is disabled. I tried disabling my Macafee firewall and also open the ports recommended for media sharing.
I was also in the it management services and value Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, HTTP SSL and automatic Plug-and-Play Auto Start Up.

    Thanks for your advice.

    2. What is the format of the videos that you try to play?

    3. are you able to play other files with Windows Media Player?

Media Player will not be able to play video files, if there are no required codecs or video format is not supported by Media Player.

I have a mpeg file played ok before the download Flash Player to move to another place; but now the audio wont play even if the video plays very well.  The mpeg file may was converted from another format mpeg before do me.

    Hello

    1. are you able to play the other mpegs successfully?
    2. what version of Windows Media Player do you use?

I suspect that the file is corrupted.

    Method 1.
Check if you can play the same video in a different media player.

    Method 2.
You may need to check if the codecs work very well to play the file. Check if you have installed third party codecs. Uninstall them and re - install and then check.

    I hope this helps.
