Hello
· Have you been able to import before avi files to your Windows movie maker and the creation of DVD?
· You are able to import another file without any problem format?
Try to import another file type (format) and check if the problem persists.
Step 1:
Damaged codec is often a cause of crashes with Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker.
If possible, use a program to convert your Windows Media movies first and then try to import it.
Step 2:
If the movie maker was working properly before, I suggest you to reset the windows movie maker settings. Follow the steps in the article mentioned below.

noise problem Windows movie maker 2.6 when recording in dv - avi format
I installed the filmmaker windows 2.6 on windows 7 Home premium. Everything works fine. When I try to record the final film in DV - AVI format, I get 5-7 seconds of noise very high height introduced where ever there is a change of clip. IE if I have 10 different clips in my film, I get this noise at 10 different locations in my last recorded movie. These are the places where begins a new clip. There is no such noise present when I play the project in movie maker is not present in the original source file (which is an avi file).
Interestingly, when I save the movie in any format as DV - AVI, (IE high video quality, local playback or any wmv file) there is no such noise introduced in the final movie. I used the same clips to make the final movie in windows xp using movie maker 2.1 and there was no question also in the recorded final DV - AVI movie.
So the problem seems to be only on movie maker 2.6 on windows 7, when recording in DV - AVI format (all other formats of work correctly). Clips of same worked well on movie maker 2.1 on windows XP, when recording in DV - AVI format.
I suspect that the video filters (in tools-> options) could be the reason. I checked and all active video filters are those in C/windows/SYSWOW64 directory, so there is no non-microsoft video filter.
Pls help as windows live movie maker (installed on windows 7) all blocks left and right and is basically useless because it can't record any movie to the end. Director of Windows 2.1 was the best choice, but it cannot be installed on windows 7. I can download the video to show what kind of flicker noise is there at the beginning of each clip. It is a volume high, shrill noise as if two things are rubbing against each other.

Well, I was very happy when the program doesn't stop after following your advice and unchecking above named filter. But then, after it scans the file (which is a progress!), he says he cannot continue because one or more of the files contains a codec that is not supported by AutoMovie. I don't even know what a codec IS. I know who was Kojak, and I know what is Kotex, but what the heck is a codec and how do I get one?

Windows Movie Maker stops working after importing video MP4
I am running Movie Maker version 6 and Windows Vista Home Premium. I imported my videos my camcorder Flip Ultra HD from Sony MP4. The clips will play in preview pane and I can edit in the timeline or storyboard table. However, after about 5 minutes of use Moviemaker stops working for no apparent reason. (Moviemaker stopped job searching a solution), is never resolved. It also stops working if I try to see my edited video. I downloaded Moviemaker Live, but it has the same problem. To make matters worse I now get the message "this application has requested the execution to terminate in an unusual way. Contact for the moreinformation application support team. "It's really fustrating because I can't edit my videos.

A film recorded in windows movie maker opens not when-e-by post
My other movies a year ago, opened when they were sent, no problem. So I sent one that makes home and you could open when sent by electronic mail and got the same mess... The project file is in use by another program. I can't figure this out for nothing! All movies are in Linda/documents and recorded in Movie Maker
What is happening with all the movies attached sent by e-mail (I know that's the same films that worked before) or only those sent to a certain person? Try to send one to yourself and see if you can open and view. If so, it may be a problem with the recipient. Make sure that they close all the open files or active in their program, and then try again.
If this does not work, please transfer your question in the Forum Movie Maker:http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wlmedia/threads where experts in this program will be happy to help you with your problem.
Good luck!
