Windows Movie Maker, not be able to import video

Windows Movie Maker

I have the Vista operating system.  I'm opening the camcorder videos in Windows Movie Maker, and I get the error message:

The C:\Users\Marcia\Desktop\selz videos\Selz that DVD.wpl file cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer.

What should I install to open these videos?

The .wpl files are probably Windows Media
Playlist of files... not real video files.

Here is some info on the .wpl files:

You can find real video files... maybe

However, if you have a video or audio file that is not taken care of, you can use a non-Microsoft video editing software to convert the file into a format supported by Windows Movie Maker, and then import the video file or an audio resulting in Windows Movie Maker. Hi Michaelle1,

    ·          You did it of any material changes or software on the computer before this problem?

    ·          Do you have any third party media player and codec installed on your computer?

Temporarily uninstall them if you have any third-party media player installed on your computer and check if you are able to import files video .mov in Windows Movie Maker.

Secondly, if you have any third-party codec player installed temporarily uninstall them and check.

To uninstall codec and third-party multimedia player, you can use the Windows Cleanup utility.

Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility from this link:

Description of the Windows Installer Cleanup utility

Now, run the utility ("' start > all programs > Windows Installer Cleanup" "). In the list of programs displayed in the cleanup, select programs, and then click on remove. Quit out of cleaning.

    Hello

    ·        Have you been able to import before avi files to your Windows movie maker and the creation of DVD?

    ·        You are able to import another file without any problem format?

Try to import another file type (format) and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

Damaged codec is often a cause of crashes with Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker.

If possible, use a program to convert your Windows Media movies first and then try to import it.

    Step 2:

If the movie maker was working properly before, I suggest you to reset the windows movie maker settings. Follow the steps in the article mentioned below.

  • DVD does not properly burn on windows movie maker

My film seems perfect on the screen, but when I burn to a DVD in the same program of Movie Maker, it burns all the show and there is no music either.  Any advice?

    Thank you

    Frustratedwithmoviemaker

    Hello

I suggest to restore the settings of Windows DVD maker to factory default settings in the audio and video
the filters sometimes cause this problem.

Video and audio filters are programs that are installed on your computer that help interpret video files so that they will display and play correctly. Windows Movie
Manufacturer use them when you import video and audio.

To restore settings, try the following steps.
    a. open Windows DVD maker.
    b. click on tools and then click Options.
    c. click on the Compatibility tab.
    d. do one of the following:
    e. click all of the default settings.
    f. restart DVD creation and burning a DVD again to check if the problem persists.

When you restore the default settings, the list and the filters settings are given to the last known good setting.

  • Project Windows Movie Maker won't play in Windows Media Player

I created a 'film' in Windows Movie Maker - not a bad little program.  I used to be a professional video tape, and you can do things with Movie Maker and that you can't do with the edition of tape cassette - even in a television station in a big city.

The film plays well in Movie Maker, but he won't play in Windows Media Player (Version 11).  I have Vista Home Version on my computer.

I want to be able to send e-mail to friends and family who do not have Windows Movie Maker - but have Windows Media Player (not sure which versions have all my friends).  Until now, whenever I try to play the movie in Media Player, I get the following message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file.

When I click on the "get help from web" button, it takes me to this page:

This page does not give me the solution to the problem and gives me no option to download/install the codec I need.  I don't know what a codec is and don't really care to know.    I just need to know:

    Should which codec I?

    Where can I download it?

What are the two products of Microsoft.  Can they be compatible?  One of the options presented during "editing" the file is to be sent by e-mail.  Not much good if the e-mail recipient is unable to play.

I can also play the movie using Real Player or I-Tunes - but it of okay for me if they work in these players or not, since my friends and family would be no players on their computers.
