Windows Movie Maker, not be able to open or import .mswmm files

MovieMaker for Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

I did a movie with effects and audio and save the file. However, when I go to open the file, I can not and I have a msg which States:

The file C:\Users\Yolanda\Videos\Yolanda's BDay 34th slide show. MSWMM cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to re-import the file.

In computer science, I'm not notified. I need advice so that I can open and see all the hard work that was put into this project.

Thank you.

  • Windows Movie Maker 6.0 won't let me import

My Windows Movie Maker for Vista (I guess 6.0) does not allow me to import any media. It is a new problem. He worked at a couple of days and all of a sudden does not allow me to import files that she allowed me to import before. After that I tried to import, it says that it cannot because of "an unknown error." If I try to import a second time, and then it says that Windows Movie Maker has stopped responding. The same thing happens when I try to delete the files from the imported section (ones I've imported before and are still there from when he worked).

Unless someone knows what's going on, I was going to just uninstall and reinstall if it was free, but could not find the 6.0 download.

    Hi Powderdd,

You cannot uninstall Director of vista because it is part of the operating system.

This error may be due to some compatibility issue, you can try to update the codec on your computer, and then try to import. If it fails, you can check if the file format is supported by media player.

    Hello

    ·         What program did you use for recording to WMV file?

    ·         Are you having similar problem when you try to import the WMV file, which is not recorded by this program?

    Method 1:

Although you can play a file in Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may not be able to import the file into Windows Movie Maker even though this article lists this kind of file. You will not be able to import the file if the codec that was used to encode the audio or video is not a codec that is supplied with Windows. In this case, you can re - encode the video or audio by using Windows Media Encoder, and then import the video or audio.

To download the Windows Media Encoder, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=8509

  • Project Windows Movie Maker won't play in Windows Media Player

I created a 'film' in Windows Movie Maker - not a bad little program.  I used to be a professional video tape, and you can do things with Movie Maker and that you can't do with the edition of tape cassette - even in a television station in a big city.

This page does not give me the solution to the problem and gives me no option to download/install the codec I need.  I don't know what a codec is and don't really care to know.    I just need to know:

    Should which codec I?

    Where can I download it?

What are the two products of Microsoft.  Can they be compatible?  One of the options presented during "editing" the file is to be sent by e-mail.  Not much good if the e-mail recipient is unable to play.

I can also play the movie using Real Player or I-Tunes - but it of okay for me if they work in these players or not, since my friends and family would be no players on their computers.
