I received a phone call from a person who said she was from the Windows Support. She said she wanted to talk about a problem with my computer. I never give information to unknowns, I told her that I don't have a computer. She insisted and said she has a computer registered in my name and added my name to me, just in case I didn't know how to spell!  I insisted on the fact that I don't have a computer, which she hung up without even a goodbye. The phone number that appears on the screen of my phone was as follows: + 971 2 179 514 (the code is that of the UAE, Abu Dhabi, to be more precise). I know that Microsoft may have something else to do, but it would not be a good thing if the authorities took a peek in these crooks/scammers / con artist Set up or in other words the CALL CENTERS that prey on the innocent and unsuspecting of honest people? Isn't this why do laws exist?

  • Windows phone call?

I received a phone call this morning with a guy by pretending that it was Windows.  He said that having received a report from my computer it's going to crash and I had to follow his instructions.  I was very skeptical of this... He told me to press the indicator button and the letter r on several occasions, I've actually held simultaneously downwards, not hitting, he popped a bunch of boxes of run menu.  I was getting more skeptical, it was contagious and he hung up on me.  Is he there some sort he got information from my computer, had this ligit?  Help, please!

    Thank you

SCAM! If you do not give him access, he did not in your computer.
Consider this: How do they know your phone number? It is not registered anywhere with Ms.

I also received a phone call from an Indian man who said I had a virus, I did not open anything but try to connect but could not it says something like unable to connect that someonelse is connected, I tried to log on my girls password and the same thing happened there. When I closed the computer and re entered my password allowed me right there. My question is I did not open anything when he was on the phone I just connected, he was hacking my computer or was pure coincidence. I don't do banking over the internet, but I paid for a few things on the line and I'm afraid that he can get any substance persional. Help, please! Thank you

Only way he could access your computer is if you gave him the passwords, or enables a remote access connection by... you should have to install Teamviewer, Logmein or other legitimate applications and then give the code to access it.

Here are some other links you find interesting... extends over what you might have faced if you let scammers in your computer.

  • Phone call of support of Windows said I have a virus

I received a call from an Indian man today telling me that it was Windows Support and that my system had a virus on it, and it was dangerous.  I stopped the man and told him that a relative of mine has had the same call and that she had checked that it was not Microsoft and Windows wouldn't contact me by phone unless I had contacted and asked them to call me.  He tried telling me that if I didn't do that he asked that the system would get slower and more slowly and eventually fall down, I told him bluntly that I didn't believe that it was Windows and he was trying to sell me something that I really don't need that I have Norton 360 and had not flashed up problems with viruses.  He told me that Norton 360 was not very good and it would still leave virus (a lie).  I then asked where he got my number as I don't give, if I can help, he said, it is based on a questionnaire (which I had not filled in), I told him that I was a member of the GST with BT and I didn't talk to him more, and he could be sentenced to a fine for call me cold and then put the phone down.

These people don't realize that there are actually certain IT savvy computer owners out there, what really gets me, is that they tell us that they got our information from questionnaires or market research when we have not completed anything, either online or other.

  • How do contact you windows to report a scam phone call

Hi I was just wondering how do you report this scam to the phone call, you go to your local police or don't expect, or how can contact you with windows, I get these calls every day telling me I have a virus and to turn on my computer, it is a call of the Indian region, but the problem is that they call my house number and I don't have my home number recorded by windows / hotmail. So how they got, it's unreal. I was wondering if anyone can help urgently! Thank you

    Hi Niamh,

If you know who is in contact with you, then you can either call their phone service provider and ask them to try to block the number or contact your local police.

Microsoft has nothing to do with those calls.

  • I've been doing a series of phone calls telling me that my license key for my Windows is about to expire. Is it a reality or just somone trying to rip me off?

Last week to 10 days, I received lots of calls from someone called PC Support (which sound as if they come from the India) telling me that they want to access my PC to show me the problems that are reported to them from my ISP about something and real operating system Windows on the license key is about to expire.

I suspect that it is a new scam to try to sell the product, anti-virus/malware any... but it got me wondering whether or not it is a real-world scenario.

Can someone me one way or another?
