Windows restore cannot restore on certain dates. Tried many dates, any failure to restore.

I am trying to restore to an earlier date, but all the dates I take returns as restore failed. Here are all the dates in bold with activity. I think I lost a line in a program somehow. Windows XP has been installed on the computer when you buy don't have is not an installation disc.

There are some programs that unfortunately interfere with the restoration of the system (Norton is probably the most common culprit). See:

http://bertk.MVPs.org/html/srfail.html

or

http://Web.archive.org/Web/20100124215607/http://bertk.MVPs.org/html/srfail.html

What is the reason for which you want to run the system restore? I ask because it must be performed in certain situations.

Also, feel free to tell us the brand and model of your PC so that the type of XP you're running (Home, Pro, or MCE). Also do you have SP3 and all post-SP3 updates to security installed?

  • Windows 8 start "repair automatic Loop" problem - tried many Solutions, no disc.

    Hello

I have a HP Pavillion desktop, about 3 months with 8 64-bit pre installed Windows (no separate disk). I, like apparently many others here and on the wider internet experienced the 'loop auto repair problem' and after reading and application of solutions kindly posted by various people, I'm still stuck with this problem.

I'm not a person of computer savvy, so if anyone here can give kindly help I would appreciate it fully.

This happened earlier today, and the problem had arisen once before, but I was able to perform a refresh of the system and while I didn't lose my apps could keep the data. Now, the system update States "there was a problem of your PC Refresh. Has been no change. "

I only want to do a factory reset the absolute last resort, I wasn't enough smart to foresee such a disaster I don't run no back ups of my files. Although I'm afraid that this problem would arise again.

    So my main questions are

    • Is it possible to fix this problem, which can be done internally (except for factory reset and no third-party program part). I have an external hard drive if I can somehow extract the files.

    Hi Will,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

It is regrettable that the computer is stuck in the loop of the repair. I'll be happy to help you with your query. I appreciate the effort made by you to try to solve the problem. However, in order to try the following steps, you require the installation of Windows 8 media.

Given that Windows 8 has been preinstalled on the computer, I suggest you to contact HP for help with the installation media. Once you get the installation media for Windows 8, try the following steps:

Step 1: Boot recovery environment with the installation of Windows 8 media.

It is another way to boot the PC and launch recovery tools when something goes wrong with the operating system.

Please follow the steps below. Insert the DVD to install Windows 8 on DVD-ROM and restart your computer.

    (a) once you start your computer by using the Windows DVD or the system repair disc, a black screen is displayed with the gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press a button on any.
(b), select the exact time and the type of keyboard.
    (c) click on repair your computer in the lower left corner.
    (d) select Troubleshooting to Choose an option screen.
    (e) click Advanced options in the form of resolution of the problems .
    (f) click Auto repair of Advanced Options screen.
    (g) following, choose the operating system by clicking on its button.
    (h) Windows 8 will then look for problems on the hard drives and verify that all required files are intact.

Step 2: Run the restoration of the system of the Advanced Options screen.

System Restore to restore your computer to a previous state, quickly and easily without losing any of your files and personal settings. Sometimes when you install programs or drivers, they can affect some system settings and prevent other programs to function properly. You can use system restore to restore these settings to their previous state.

    You can follow the steps:

    (a) once you start your computer by using the Windows DVD or the system repair disc, a black screen is displayed with the gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press a button on any.
(b), select the exact time and the type of keyboard.
    (c) click on repair your computer in the lower left corner.
    (d) select Troubleshooting to Choose an option screen.
    (e) click Advanced options in the form of resolution of the problems .
    (f) select System restore.

Important: When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed after this date are deleted.

Do not hesitate to write to us in case you have any problems/concerns while working on your computer, we will be happy to help you.

The system restore already worked successfully in the past?

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems like frustrating and a lot of time as possible by asking only not for any information system when a new question is asked.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.
For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.
System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.
That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).
Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.
Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.
No matter what you use for protection against malware, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
It can be uninstalled later if you wish.
The scans by operating clean, reboot, test and we can fix any other issues.

Yes, I'm afraid so. Sorry about that. The history information is stored in the places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder when it is shown in the library. In this case the story has not been stored. You may be able to get the nine most visited sites before this adjustment was made, or the pinned sites by opening a new tab. It is a toshiba satelliteL505D-Ls5001

When you perform a factory restore then all passwords are cleared and you are prompted for an account name (that you choose) and his password.

If you are prompted for a password to an existing account, then you don't have a factory restore. Maybe you did a Windows restore to a Restore Point, in which case the password is the one that was current when the Restore Point was created.

If you can get in Mode safe under an admin account you can reset any desired password.

  • Aspire 5336-windows restore and erecovery two failing?

    Hi all

Last night, my system started to hang on the home screen (for more than 30 minutes), so I tried a windows system restore to a few days ago. This does not (I can re try and advise specific error messages if this helps) - I then tried the Alt + F10 erecovery, but still receive an error message when it is almost full the message says ' windows restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. " Windows Setup cannot continue. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then run the Setup again.

The complete factory reset is the only thing I have not tried, because I will not lose rather all the pictures and music I stored on there - is there a way to solve the problem at all, without completely wipe the hard drive? I have access to other PC etc. to download things and burn them on cd/DVD/memory sticks...

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Mark

You can run Check Disk via the command prompt. But before that, we recommend that you try the following steps to complete the installation of Windows in your system:
    1. on the screen that displays ' Windows restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. " Windows Setup cannot continue. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation"error, press SHIFT + F10. This will open a black window that is actually a command prompt window.
    2. in the command prompt window, type "regedit" (without the quotes). This will open your registry editor.
    3. in Registry Editor, go to "HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/INSTALLATION/STATUS/ChildCompletion" and highlight ChildCompletion
    4. After you select, locate setup.exe on the right side. If the value here is 1, you will need to change to 3. You can do this by double-clicking on setup.exe and by changing the value in the box.
    5. now close the registry editor and close the command prompt window.
    6. click 'OK' for the error and your computer will restart and finish the installation process.

To run Check Disk via the command prompt, open the command prompt window by following the instructions mentioned in step 1 above, and then type "chkdsk/f/r" (without the quotes) in the window.

If you use Internet Security of Trend Micro with Windows 7, this combination is probably what is causing the problem.

To fix this, open the main Trend Micro Internet Security (or similar). Open the Virus & Spyware controls. Choose the Protection against viruses & Spyware; Click settings, then advanced settings. Uncheck the box next to 'save files before you try to remove the virus '.

This solved my save all problems in Excel 2007 and Word 2007.
