"Stop" Windows function does not work correctly
My windows stop does not. I can only close by manually pressing the power button or by Log off-change user-windows stop - stop.
Pls help.
Hello
It's not easy to say why the closure works doesn t work.
But above all harm or damage registry entries are responsible for these issues.
You can try to use the System Restore tool to roll back the OS to the beginning. In addition, you can consult the Microsoft document that described the shutdown problems in Windows XP. It s useful. Check it out.

Firefox does not close when Windows stops
When Windows (in my case: Win XP SP3) stops, it sends a message ("QUERY_UNLOAD" in many programming languages) that active programs can finish their job (e.g. lay on unsaved data), then exit. It seems you developers have reached Firefox v25 and not thought of programming this little piece-> Windows stop - a Firefox open don't give a fuck on the output, you must cancel it via Windows.
It would be nice to have this little programming effort done - finally - thank you.
Firefox may have need of more time to close properly that allows Windows and in the case where Windows is abandonment of Firefox closing process then you given are damaged, then always first close all programs in particular Firefox before close the computer or check if you can make Windows do wait at least 30 seconds or more (you can check in the Task Manager to see how much time Firefox takes to close).

Update of Windows XP does not work, how do I stop the Office 07/10 updates?
For these last months, the web version of Windows Update does not work with XP. When you click on the button for Express or custom installation, the stalls of system looking for updates. So I had to put windows to warn me of updates instead of going on the site, but now it keeps wanting to download me updates for Office 2007 and 2010, but I do not own these products (I use Office 2003). I could not stop, even when I ticked the box does not warn me of those more. Finally I went to the site and found an option to disable Microsoft Update, which said I could always download the updates to the site, but I can't because he's trying to force me to re - download Microsoft Update.
What is going on? I don't like the new Microsoft Update as it keeps nagging me to download updates for the products that I have not yet owned. How can I update Windows XP only? This is very fustrating.

Hi Steve,.
Follow these steps.
Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel and double click on automatic updates. I'll explain why later.
Then, tick the option at the bottom to turn off automatic updates, and then click apply/OK.
Then, go to start, run, copy and paste this command and click OK: services.msc
In the list of Services, you can see Background Intelligent Transfer Service ?
Here's a pix what he looks like.
If it is not listed, follow these steps to register the BITS service.
Open the Windows search tool, copy / paste the following text, and then click Search: qmgr.dll
Research should show this file in the following locations:
C:\Windows\System32
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitsYou might only see qmgr.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32 depending on your configuration.
Then, go to start, run and copy/paste: regsvr32 qmgr.dll and click OK
Do the same with this file: regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
Reboot the system and then copy / paste this command into the field run:
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.infIf you are prompted to insert the Windows installation CD, ignore this and in the dialog below, replace the path C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
If you could only see the file in C:\WINDOWS\system32, change the path to that instead.
Restart the PC and then go to the Services and you should be able to see BITS in the list.
Double click on it and then on the general tab, click the Start button to start the service manually. This is just a test to make sure that it works correctly.
If you get 2 error: cannot find the specified file, click on start, then run again and copy / paste the following command, and then click OK:
Tracking Add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dllReboot again and try once more to start the PIECES. It should work fine now, but in the unlikely case where it fails again, run the following command, and then press ENTER:
Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackupReboot once more and then do the following.
Go to this link and install the IE8 December Update:
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/download/details.aspx?ID=41404If you use IE7, use this link instead:
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/download/details.aspx?ID=41442Finally, go to the Windows Update site and you should be able to download normally.
If this is the case, re - enable automatic updates in Control Panel.

Please help: Windows XP does not start error message: STOP: 0 x 00000024
Original title: Please help: Windows XP does not start.
Windows XP does not start, there is a message: STOP: 0 x 00000024. and run CKHDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption. But I don ' t know how to make it work? Please help, thanks.
If this is the message you get, then you have multiple problems...
1, xp should be on the C: drive, not F:
Default C: is for the OS only. With xp on drive F: and you use only a hd
then the hd must be formatted and all partitions deletion (unless there is a relocation
the operating system is present). Install the xp installation cd, boot the pc on a cd (some PC need BIOS
be defined for this, (boot priority), once at the cd menu, press r for recovery console, select 1
for the C: drive, press enter for the password, type: Diskpart in diskpart, see all partitions, delete all,.
Create one, press the key type, ESC: EXIT leave pc reboot, install xp from the cd, format it when asked.

"System restore has not initialized because windows stops."
This message keeps me from using system restore any previous date, I chose. Restore fails every time.
Window shutsdown too early. What can I do to prevent this?
Try to boot mode safe (the F8 key as the computer starts from the tap) and run system restore from in Safe Mode.

Hi, I had after-installed windows7 on my HP ProBook 6555 b. Today, I've upgraded to windows 8, but now I can not be bale to close. I press the power button (or so I click on 'stop' to the parameters of the charm bar), but it comes down to the stand by no leaves. I checked the save battery settings and everything is ok. I contacted microsoft, they told me that it's a compatibility issue with Hp, windows 8 has a native because antivirus and firewall, so it is a conflict between this windows antivirus/Firewall 8 with software preinstalled HP saving energy.
You know to solve this problem? Thank you very much
Gluka,
You are the very welcome. WIN8 does not perform a complete stop by default. It uses a hybrid stopped to increase startup time. This has been confusing for us also.
Mark the thread solved if you like while others see the solution.
I created a shortcut on the start page to make it easier:
Right-click on the desktop
Select new
Select the shortcut
Type:
Shutdown.exe/s/hybrid/t 0 (if you want this to be a full stop, do not type "/ hybrid")
Click next
In the name box, type Shutdown
And click Finish.
On the desktop, right click on the shortcut
Select Properties
Select Change icon, click OK in the error message.
Select the power icon in the list, and then click Ok.
Right-click on the shortcut and select Pin To Start.

Hey Brian39
If you change the motherboard that you normally have to reinstall vista
your hard drive if you ever reinstalled vista contains the drivers for the old motherboard etc.
and if vista is pre-installed you can not put the motherboard unless you do so in collaboration with the computer manufacturer
If a retail license, you can change the motherboard
but you will normally always reinstall vista for reasons

Windows 7 does not stop correctly
When we stop windows 7 on our Dell laptop purchased recently everything is disconnected and no error message appears during the shutdown, but when you start the system again we receive an error message that says windows 7 was not correctly closed mode you want to reboot into safe mode, safemode w/internet, etc.
It is a brand new system and the laptop, and we should not receive this message, someone else experienced this as a type of malware that might create this problem? We have Norton anti-virus and did not receive any error messages or notification of virus. How are we going to stop windows 7 from closing properly? We talked to Dell customer service and they are clueless, Microsoft tells me I have to go to them for support. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello
Welcome to the Microsoft answers siteI suggest you perform the clean boot and check
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as
a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. Boot stops interference with other third-party software on the computer.
Steps to perform the clean boot:
1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility. If you are prompted for an administrator
password for a confirmation, type the password or click on continue.
2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
5. click on OK.
6. When you are prompted, click on restart.
7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.
If the problem is resolved to check what is the cause of the problem, referring to the link given below:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart. It may be useful
