Windows the files got crushed

Hello from South of the Australia!

About 2 weeks ago McAffe, automatically updated to update itself, but I got a message saying that want to overwrite some files of Windows. Assuming that McAffe was a source of confidence, I have let that happen. But now, all the time, I get the following message is displayed: -.

"Files which are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions." To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files.

"Insert your Windows XP Home Edition service Pack 3 CD now".

Needless to say, I have not the CD-s.

Is there another way I can restore these files? Please note that I have received no other info, that is, I don't know which files are affected, this is why I can't specifically ask for them.

I don't know if it will help, but you can try to perform a system restore.  Note that some anti-virus programs interfere with the system restore process, so the safest is to start mode (repeatedly tap key the F8 key while the computer starts) safe and restoring repressive mode safe...

  • SSD for the boot, SSD, reformatting of the files needed for a normal startup of Windows 7

I just have to use the SSD Sandisk more for the startup of Windows 7 and MSOffice programs.
I made a mistake of a new copy on Windows 7 top loading.
What I wanted, it was just part of Windows 7 with all current configurations and keep the data on the other hard drive.

So what I did is to clone the old HD (which was almost full) to a larger HD, so I have a full copy, which is bootable.
I took the old HD and removed/uninstalled all data & programs except: all files in Windows, the files MS Ofc, video card, keyboard & mouse records, Internet browsers, contact lists, etc.

My plans were to take stripped this old HD, after defragmentation and clone through for the Sandisk SSD, so it will start quickly.

My first concern is to clean the SSD drive that has the Windows 7 barebones.
    Can I just reformat?

Any other considerations that I missed?

You can re - format the disk and run clone on it, if you don't want to keep of course.

The situation you describe seems feasible for me

  • How can I recover encrypted after reinstalling Windows jpg files?

    ENCRYPTED JPG FILES

I recently had a major BONE down and since my laptop running XP Pro) was bought four years ago in a former

employer, that he hasn't had the recovery discs, I had a techie load discs of my daughter in my laptop. This of course

led to my loss of all files. I had the backup files to a hard drive stand alone. I had about 6 GB of photos, mostly from the jpg

which approximately 1/3 have been encrypted. I don't understand why, because all the photos have been scanned or copied on the

same laptop running XP Pro. I've never knowingly encrypted files. Is it possible I can get these encrypted

files? I don't have the certificate number of the previous operating system. Still, I don't understand why some files would be

encrypted while others were not using the same Windows XP Pro operating system. Can you help me? In the opposite case

I'll have to rescan hundres of photographs. Thank you.

Yes, the repair shop know what they were doing, but the fact that you gave them a Dell reinstallation CD, as well as the fact that you got the computer back without your files, suggests that what the store did was a "clean install".

The facts that the files appear in green and the encryption checkbox checked are bad for you.  Both indicate that the files are encrypted in fact using the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS).

I've never heard of files becomes encrypted without any action of the user, but how the files got encrypted are now irrelevant.

As far as I KNOW, your only hope is to download the demo version of Elcomsoft application linked in my previous post and see if we can find any trace of the hard disk encryption key which is not crushed by the relocation.  I don't know, but I suspect that the free trial will tell you if it can or cannot decrypt your files... but they will decrypt only really if you pay for it.

ElcomSoft claims success in situations like yours.  The less you use the computer before you run the data recovery software, the better your chances of recovery.  I think you have to go with the more expensive "professional" version.

  • Easy transfer Windows - log file?

Using Windows Easy transfer to move files from my old XP system to a new Win7 system.

The transfer was to take 12 + hours, when he was about one hour left, I went out for several hours - when I came back, my new computer has been restarted (caused by an update of Windows that has been installed).

Now I don't know if the transfer was finished when the reboot happened and if it was, if all the files got flies or not.  I managed to find an application of easy transfer journal - but it just seems to just reporting on applications that have been migrated and not the real user files.

Can someone help me to know if the transfer is completed and if so, how can we know if all files transferred or not?

    Thank you for your help.

    David

    Hello

How many user accounts exist in the Windows XP computer and how attempted to move?

To check if the transfer is completed, you will need to compare manually the files of those who are located in Windows XP and those transferred to Windows 7 computer.

In addition, at the end of Windows Easy Transfer.  I suggest you to refer to the ink below and check for step 4.

  • Properties of the file - Date of the last recorded

    Hello.

I'm having trouble understanding the properties of the file, as "Last record Date" (DLS) and "Date modified" (MD).

I asked that the last of them, MD, has been changed whenever the content has changed. But Distribution lists must be updated also.

However, I have a file which has the DLS on 2007 and MD 2014 and the 'last impression"also is 2014.

    How is that possible?

What has changed the date the content of the file was really the last?

I would be grateful if someone could help me understand this.

    Thank you,

    Nuno Roque

Modification date is when the file got changed on that hard drive.  Even if you have never opened the file, just drag-and - drop it to drive flash (for an example) would last updated date change, because the file on this disk changed really.

Properties such as "Date of last recorded" and "date printed" are stored in the file itself, such as metadata and are updated no not by disk or operating system, but by the design (such as Word) program.

    Hi Liam,

What exactly are you trying to save?

If you use the Internet Explorer browser to download files, then try to change the default download location.

In Windows, the files of libraries have a default save location. To save documents, the value default save the supplied folder is Documents.

    a. click on the Windows Explorer icon, located in the bar tasks to open it and then click on libraries.

    b. Select Documents, right click and go to Properties.

    c. examine the library locations. The default location is My Documents. While you want to add another location, click Add.

    d. you will find the new location in the library as well as those already existing locations. Click on apply and then OK.

  • Apple/Mac by adding to the file path?

I have the following script javascript in InDesign runnning:

    defaultPath var = new File ('\\\server\\path\\to\\file');

    } else {}

    defaultPath var = new File ("smb://server/path/to/file");

    }

The code works correctly in Windows (the file is located on a shared Windows directory), but on a Mac, I get an error "cannot find file" and claims that is the defaultPath variable:

    / Applications/adobe InDesign CS5/scripts/XHTML for Digital Editions/smb: / server/path/to/file

    I'm confused about 2 things:

    1. Why is it by adding "/ Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5/scripts/XHTML for Digital Editions / ' path?
    2. Why is he changing smb: / / for smb: / (a slash)?

I use the incorrect path for Mac? Is there supposed to be something else before smb: / / to identify that this is not a local path?

  • When you try to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7, I got this error message "do not have permission to open the file. Contact the administrator. »

I bought Windows 7 two years to upgrade my Windows Vista laptop. The upgrade went well. In November, my hard drive reported a failure to come so I took it to a technician to replace my hard drive and reload everything. I didn't have the product key for W7 so they have recharged to factory install WVista. Last night, I bought another copy of W7 and installed. When the time came to 'Unpack the box' I got one "don't have permission to open the file. Contact the administrator. "message. I found a solution in a post since 2009 and followed the instructions to the command prompt: sfc/scannnow. The scan came back with no violation of integrity. I don't know what to do now.

  • Computer died. Past from Windows XP to Vista. Lost Outlook Express mail folders. Not in Windows Mail. (Got 3 months of e-mail entering the transfer.) I can't the old Outlook Express files?

This is my first posting. Don't know how much has appeared in the "title". Computer died. Past from Windows XP to Vista. Lost Outlook Express mail folders. Not in Windows Mail. (Got 3 months of e-mail entering the transfer.) I can't the old Outlook Express files?

Have I lost the files of Outlook Express completely or is there a way that I can import them in the same way that e-mail came? My old computer died (power source grilled or something like that). I still have it, but no way to turn it on.

If you can access the old hard drive PC you can get the data of Outlook Express store.  See this: http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx or this: http://www.insideoe.com/backup/ Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]

  • My computor would not start windows, so I got the opption to boot with the disc. But with the TI istalled a new windows 7 on my computor and all my files are gone. How can I get the file.

second copy of windows 7 has been installed. How can I retrieve my files from the old copy of windows 7

That depends on the options you chose when you made the installation.  If you chose to keep your old files, you can view the folder c:\windows.old .  If you opted to install on another partition, you can retrieve the files from the old partition.  Otherwise, you would have to have supported your computer before reinstalling.

When you got your system back as you, I invite you to buy an external hard drive, and a good backup 3rd party program. You can configure it to automatically do everything in time and frequency of your choice. External hard drives 1 TB are about $85 these days and a very good FREE backup program corresponds to the Easeus todo backup free of charge that you can download from

http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm . Who can make you save a lot of time and frustration, the next time something like this happens. Sooner or later, it happens to all computers for one reason or another.

    Good luck.

  • Cannot install Firefox on new HP Windows 7. After he retrieves the file I get this error message: there is no specific path

He then goes on to say, check the path and try again. I created the file path and soon realized that he changes the name of the path each time.

    Path of the example:
    c:\\Users\Karen\AppData\Local\Temp\7zSCAD.tmp\setup.exe

Running windows 7, 64 bit and trying to download the new Firefox 7. When this does not work I tried an older version and got the same message.

I loved Firefox on my old computer which was under XP. I hope there is a fix for this.

    Thank you!
    Karen

Try instead a .zip installation. It should work. When you run Firefox for the first time, it will create a new profile if it is already there.

    http://FTP.Mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/7.0.1-candidates/build1/Win32/

Choose a language version, and then choose the .zip file.

  • When I download something on the Web, the "Downloads" window opens, but that the window remains empty. Before it used to show at least the name of the file and I was able to open the file in the "Downloads" window Is it possible to recover this feature?

I am running Windows XP that is updated to the latest version (which I think could be Service Pack 3, but not positive.) Mozilla Firefox is version 5.0. I tend to use Google as my search engine, so most of the stuff I download comes through sites found through Google, which is also updated.

At some point in the past (there are maybe a few versions) when I want to download a file from the Internet, the "downloads" window opens and in the window would display the name of the file I got was download or came from download. I think I used to be able to then click on the file name and opens the file (or the Setup file if necessary to launch the new program). I am currently using Firefox 5.0 (screen "On Firefox" said that it is up to date) and when I download a file or document, the "Downloads" window appears on the screen as it has always in the past, but it remains empty, that is, nothing is displayed in the download area. I don't remember to make configuration changes, etc., that may have caused the window to remain a Virgin, but I could be wrong. I know how to find the items I downloaded (My Documents / downloads) and can generally guess what might be the name of the downloaded file, but it was much easier when something (anything) appeared in the downloads window.

I'd like someone to tell me about a simple solution for this. I'm ready to be pretty embarrassed that I did something I should not have.

In the Firefox Options / confidentiality be sure 'Remember download history"is checked. To see all the options on this Panel, "Firefox will be" must be set to "use the custom settings for history".

To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click on the icon my computer, choose Properties, this little window is info on your operating system.
