Windows Update Advisor problem

I installed the Windows Update Advisor and now my laptop does not start automatically.  I did a boot safe mode and tried to uninstall Windows Update Advisor and cannot uninstall.  He said to contact Microsoft.  What I can do. Please email me @ * address email is removed from the privacy * if you can help.

Hi hulagyrl101,

1 are you referring to upgrade advisor?

2. what happens when you start the laptop?

3. you receive an error message?

4. What is the version of Windows installed on the computer?

You cannot uninstall any program from safe mode.

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

I hope this helps!

  • "Laserjet 1022n Windows Update", causing problems printing: print jobs do not print

    Hello

A few days ago I installed upgrading Windows Laserjet 1022n on my Windows 7 64 bit and since then I can not print a page normally: the page does not print. I use a TCP/IP network port.

I made several attempts to resolve this problem:

-uninstall the printer driver and install it again (I tried the latest version on the HP site and an older one that worked perfectly before)

-update the firmware of the printer to the latest version on the HP site.

When I put the printer in pause and start the print job, you can see in the list. Resumption of the printer, printing starts on the printer but you see that the job remains in the list, flashes again and again. The printer keeps printing the same page.

I don't know what I can do to solve this problem. There is no way to uninstall the update of the HP Laserjet 1022n software because it does not appear in the list of installed programs (course list is also op updates from windows updates).

I have same problem printing to the same printer from another PC Windows 7 (with the same windows update done)

But I have no problem printing with my laptop on an other network printers.

Is there someone who has the same problem and how to solve?

    Thank you for answer

I found the solution on this site: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/59912-29-1022n-printer-stop-printing

Just uncheck the chekbox "enable two-way communication" on the "Ports" tab of the properties of the printer and it works normally again!

When I turned off my laptop Windows Vista Home Premium, the system entered into mode "install updates". It has been the installation of update 3 of 8 for more than an hour. The display does not turn off and unplug the machine. The disk led is on continuously.

    Hi jayalan,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

The updates take time depending on the size of the file. If the update has hung so I suggest you hard reboot the computer and see if you can boot to the desktop. If you can boot to the desktop and then the updates are not installed will appear and which will be installed during the next update.

Once done with the step above after starting the computer on the desk. I suggest that reset you Windows Update components and perhaps that should take care of the updates. install the updates by selecting two both than some updates system needs to reboot for the changes to take effect.

Access the link below to reset the Windows Update components automatically.

If the computer does not start on the desktop, then I suggest you to start safe mode and see if you can boot to the desktop. Once you are in the office, do a system restore which will take the computer to a time where it was working fine.

  • install the new windows update software problem

I encountered this problem with the updates, I'll check the updates and it comes back with the following:

Install new windows update software; to check the updates you must first install an update for windows update. your automatic update settings will not change.

I click Update button, it starts to download the update, then it flashes an error message, but so fast, you cannot read and ends with this message:

Look for updates for your computer; always install the updates to your computers and the preformance.

  • Window update causing problems of printer driver

Hi, I have a laptop running XP and router wireless computer (WAG54G) and a set of HP6380 in one. About 2 nights ago an update to Windows Installer by himself and rebooted the laptop (even though I have some turned off automatic updates what they seem to be screwing with anything these updates produce still grr)...

I went to try and print and to found the 6380 was absent from the list of available printers... The problem is not with the wireless network (as it is trendy and functional). I don't know what it does the update of windows... but when I tried to reinstall the drivers for this printer from the disc, he acknowledged that they were already installed... So I uninstalled them instead (and it is taken up only parts of the driver remained and he removed these pieces).

Then I tried to do a fresh driver... install that took a long time because it got stuck at the end... Finally, he came up with an error and so I tried to introduce him, HP - and received click on a desktop icon... (Icon HP - XP Installation). I tried it but it tells me to 1) Reinstall driver (done twice -) solve printing problems wireless (not a problem at this point given that I have no printer driver and I can use the network wireless for other things very well) well tried anyway... or 2

Anyone has any suggestions please > in the past when Windows updates have caused problems, I used the system restore to roll back, but this is only a temporary solution - as Windows insists on the updates I want!

    Thank you very much!

If you have the original HP software CD, look in the folder of the ccc/utils for a L3_unintsall (or similar).  Run for an uninstall very full.

    Reset.

Now, download the latest version of the software for your printer from the "Support & Driver" link at the top of this page.  DO NOT reinstall from the CD (a good rule is in general not the CDs software, but to go to the website of the manufacturer for the latest and best).

  • After February 10, Windows Update computer problems

My Acer Aspire X 1200 has been paralyzed after an update on 10 February.

After the update has been installed, my computer has freezes which lasted from 10 seconds to 2 minutes and sometimes I got that last 5 seconds that's happened every minute frozen. The sound is also taken in the loop. I had to make stops hard just to get my computer to cut. When my computer is started after the closure, it's super slow to start my applications (MSN, Xfire, PandoraOne and box). After that, the computer will not start Firefox or Internet Explorer. If a program starts, it is almost impossible to run due to the freeze. I already have 2 system restore to before the update, and my computer works very well. I also used AVG and cyber to scan my computer for viruses, they both came up empty, but Cyber has demonstrated a lot of registry errors. The only way I can even run my computer is through safe mode. Help, please!

It's terrible to hear, Daruma: I'm sorry to see that you are in such a pass.  I am not particularly satisfied with the aggressive way, Microsoft pushed the security updates lately.  I understand the need for them, but in Windows 7, I'm more than a little annoyed how this February as a whole has been treated.  What can be so potentially crippling must be more carefully tested, and we certainly shouldn't we have our machines impose us a reboot.  I had more than one backup at night or rip or other lengthy process completely the bomb at the last minute because my machine decided it was time to restart the machine and am tired of wait on me to answer the pop-ups of nag.

I have some information that can help you, but it is not enough.  At this point, you want to find the smartest geek you know and bribe him with pizza and Red Bull to repair your machines.  Show them this thread too...

    (1) you are right, that if you run a 64-bit OS and try to use a 32-bit installation disk to perform a recovery, you will encounter problems.  Under XP, it's even worse: the disks that are different flavors of Windows XP (such as "Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1" and "Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2") are also out of sync relative to each other, making the recovery of the wrong version sometimes impossible.  HOWEVER...

    (2) with Vista and 7, Microsoft has homogenized their drives: a drive for 7 Pro can also be used to recover/repair an installation of 7 Home or Ultimate.  I don't know if it's perfect, however: you may still be unable to use a 32 bit disc to get a 64-bit machine and vice versa (which I think is what you're saying).  THEN

    (3) you may have a hidden partition on your hard drive that contains your OS and original software.  It would be visible at startup time and therefore could be extracted and transformed into a bootable OS or momentum from a pre-loaded recovery utility.  Gateway and Toshiba have done this before.  AND

    (4) you may also be able to * buy * these discs Gateway system or Toshiba.  I had to do exactly this for gateway my aunt last year, paying about $30 for a system recovery disk.  My Toshiba comes with a utility that is supposed to create your discs for you by burning them to blank media, but it was absolute garbage, ripping coasters of almost a dozen and never get the last disk made.  I got a real BS answer on why the burning utility did not work... but I was told that I could buy the discs if I wanted to.   BUT

    (5) in the worst-case scenario, all is still not lost.  If for any reason, the hard drive is watered, your hired geek can put another HDD, install an OS on it, and then focus on your current hard drive and pull all the files out of what you want to use.  Or they can simply pull on your hard drive, put it in a working machine, back up everything that was on it, then put the HD in your machine and do a full format/reinstall.  From there on, you manually load all your files back on the new facility.  It's a pain, but it will almost get you back to where you were.

Even if you have formatted your hard drive, some files can be recovered.  I used a utility called "Restorer2K" a couple of times and it was excellent traction deleted files do market back a formatted hard drive.  Just try to do it before the installation of a new facility on top of the empty car.  ALSO

    (6) there is a little more work, but not hard work... your geek-for-hire can also take a drive in Windows, download the software and drivers for your machine and 'mind meld' together to do a custom installation disc.  It is a GREAT free tool called "nLite" (for XP) or "vLite" (for Vista and I think that 7) who will do it.

In the future, I know that this may seem like a pain, but you might want to grab a free backup utility called Macrium Reflect.  It can be programmed to perform backups of your machine on a regular basis and even store them somewhere else.  For example, you could tell the gateway to the top Thursday night in a big fat USB, plug the USB key Thursday night and leave the front door during the night.  Then say the Toshiba to save on Friday night on the USB, Plug and let the Toshiba on it during the night... you get the idea.  This way if this happens again, at least you have a way to back up things and never lose more of, say, evidence of a week of things.

  • Outlook / Internet Explorer after Windows Update KB890830 problems

February 5, 2015, my Windows 7 Desktop installed a major update (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x 64 (KB890830).)  When I start Outlook, which connects to the service of my cable (Cablevision - Optimum Online) provider Send POP would successfully complete, but front desk hang on for awhile before failing.  After that, all of my activities of Internet Explorer has been extremely slow.  Accessing a Web site (all) would say "Waiting for (site name)" for a good 30 seconds before rendering very slowly page elements.  After restarting, the navigation works fine and as expected until once more I open Outlook and the problem resurfaced.  I used the restore point before the update to fix the problem.

I looked, and although I see not questioned about similar issues, they are from previous years and not this specific update.  Anyone else see this problem?  I guess I can go without the update, but it was noted as "critical".

    Thank you.

Thanks Shawn and PA Bear.  It is interesting, even if I had turned off the automatic updates (to download), when I shutdown my computer last night, he made a major facility of updates to Windows and Office - and I think the fix of malicious security again.  In fact, my eyes had stopped working.

That said, preparing answers to questions diagnostic, I found that there was an older version of Java 6 installed, and Java 8 wasn't until later.  I also tried clicking on my McAfee Security Center and it does not open.  I just tried to update to Java (and remove old versions of Java) and restarted the computer.  Now everything works fine.

Thanks again for the help - just to ask me questions, he has been able to help me find the problem.

    Kind regards

    That's what I'd do - return to Win8.1.

I have a laptop HP Dv6 Win7 running and the upgrade of Win10 has been a total disaster.  I restored using Win7 HP recovery media.  I'd rather have a BONE more old where everything works, only a new operating system where things do NOT work.

As to wait a year, the FREE upgrade expires end of August 2016 - so after that, if you still want to upgrade, you will need to purchase a license - and, unlike with previous versions of OS, MS said nothing about the price for upgrade license, or even if such a license will be available then.

  • Anyone running Windows (Vista or 7) with a SSD having problems with Windows Update? FIXED *.

I ask this question because I have now two computers with this problem.

A computer running Win7 and it used to work with the SSD but recently I wipe the drive and reinstall the OS and now it will not update windows.

The second computer is a laptop with WinVista final.  This machine, I have improved since a physical hard drive to an SSD a month ago.  This time, he made Windows update without problem.  Now all of a sudden it will also not Windows update.

A third computer in my house that runs WinVista on a physical drive will be the Windows Update now without any problems.

So the only link I see is the SSD...

I replied to your other thread on this issue, but in the case where you'd miss it, I copied and pasted what I wrote here.

    FIXED!

My laptop is fixed and is installing new updates (I probably Jinx it now and it will come with an error).

What I did ask the help desk where you chat with a microsoft technician, they take control of remote access from my laptop, and after about an hour of playing around with it (I tried to follow what they were doing - many command prompt and things) they have restarted and said it should be good now. I was very doubtful, because it just shows the same page hanging so thought I would not want to go back and ask them again the next day, but I left it overnight and here this morning there were some updates 208 ready and waiting!

The technician was really helpful, they offered me paid a pension of microsoft (I think they must do this in standard), but I politely declined and they were wearing on fixing it free in any case for me!

They gave me a few options also, they said that if they had done did not work, then I could try searching with an ethernet cable (sometimes a more stable connection is all you need) or if it does not, they offered me a newer version of windows 7, which had all updates already downloaded if I wanted to do an OS reinstall everything (I said I prefer not the) do that but it was nice to have the option, if everything else has failed). They also said they would offer phone support for free all the reinstall if I need assistance.

He also confirmed that they solve this problem a lot and it was certainly not an error at the end of microsoft, or anything to do with the SSD/HDD, etc..

Overall, really impressed with the service of help desk, I highly recommend asking them if you still need help. Go here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/contactus?wa=wsignin1.0# and click on "services and applications" to open a window where you can chat.

One thing though, once that my laptop had found all of the updates, I clicked on install and it came with the error message 80240016. I Googled, followed the instructions on this link here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/windows-update-error-80240016 and it worked perfectly the second time around.

Just to confirm, now that I've finished writing this post, my updates have completely installed!

Hope it will be useful to anyone still hurt!
