Problem has been resolved.  The permissions on the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn had to be reset.  This enabled the settings of this key be restored and Windows Update works now.  I suspect that this problem occurred initially because of a crash of an Acronis image training program that was causing problems.

    Thanks for your reply.

  • Windows Update - updates download but do not install

HI, I have XP SP3 and can't get windows update to work.
When you try to install the updates never progress bar starts moving. It downloads and said initialized and installation but does not move off the coast of 0%. This happens on all updates, .net 1.1 SP1, etc.  There is no error code it is just there for hours. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thank you
    Matt

I just checked and the update old Norton is still out there...

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. double-click on the file that you saved in #1 above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

  • Updated Windows XP downloads, but fails to install

Hi, I have Windows XP Professional, last month made a fresh install of windows and a complete cleaning. Everything works fine until I hit manually the windows update in the start menu to check if there are new updates for this month of April. It considers 15 updates and usually make the express and allowed him to download and once he was done he did an installation failure. I scanned the pc for spyware/malware and viruses, empty the cache and everything is clean. This problem always occurs without error, even made the suggestion of troubleshooting on the Web site to check the revision history on windows update for the error codes, there is not. So frustrated has decided to install them manually, everything was going as well as kept checking windows update and kept number sleep due to their download from the Microsoft website and install them in the order of the error manually report it has will do. Now What intrigued me, it is that one of the updates for a 64 bit OS, but I'm running a 32 bit OS.

Update security for Windows XP (KB2509553)
It was the update where I tried to download it manually, which, on the site of Microsoft, there only for the 64-bit version.
This is the screenshot updates failed, which now installed manually, except that the one shown above, but would really upgrade from Windows to function normally again to go on the fritz hehe. Thanks in advance!

Tea Timer real-time protection, and even less those of Iobit Security 360, can cause the problem. Try disabling both, at least temporarily.

    For Tea Timer, see http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=32409

Tip: If you don't fully understand what Tea Timer does and how it does, leave it disabled permanently.

    Hello

Look for updates again. If the problem persists, then perform the steps:

  • HP Photosmart C4780 & Windows 8 - impressions but do not install the software

I have a laptop Compaq CQ58 with scannor/printer/copier HP Photosmart C4780 attached via the USB port.

    The printer will print but:

In devices and printers, when the printer is highlighted, I'm told 'Status = needs troubleshooting' and 'the driver is unavailable.  It has a yellow warning triangle, signifying that it is in error.

Scannor scan, but only to an SD card, when it is connected, can be detected by the laptop.

The copier works, but I guess that's because the copy function is entirely internal.

The printer has been installed using:

-the CD - it does not work!

-l'option 'Add new printer' devices and printers, I searched the web for readers and that's how I managed to get the printer work «»

Then... the questions I have are:

    1. How can I install the printer correctly when 'normal' routes do not seem to work.

    2. How can I get the software on the laptop scannor?

I must also add that I have downloaded the following software on the HP site:

    PS_AIO_06_C4700_140_408

    HPPSdr

These do not work!  When I click to run these I get "User Account Control" screen where asked me to confirm that I want to launch the application.  When you select 'Yes', the cursor shows 'the blue twirly thing' indicating that it is something... I wait, but nothing happens.

In the end, I would like to print wireless, but it's secondary to install all the features of the printer.

I would be grateful for any help.

    Thank you

    Neil.

The Compaq CQ58 laptop came pre-installed with windows 8, the printer was not installed when I run the installation.  I think the problem is that the installation did NOT work properly on my laptop.  I get the user account control screen but when I click on 'run' nothing happens.

HOWEVER, when showing my wife what happened when running the facility started in life and the printer is properly.

Thank you for your time and effort in loking into that but I think I'm OK now.  If I bought a car that has done this it would be directly to the manufacturer... but this seems to be the norm with Microsoft and Windows 8.

  • Windows/Microsoft Update downloads but will not install. MSE unable to update itself either when it is installed.

Microsoft Update fails to install updates and provides no information whatsoever (other that the installation has not of course).
But the only update I could not go to Microsoft Download Center (fromwhich I could install (nearly) all updates Microsoft Update do not reach), is an update to Windows Security Essentials, which is registered on Ms Update but not available from the Ms Download Center, and which is not detected by Win Security Essentials Update button (this show error code is 0 x 80240022).
There is definitely a problem with my Ms Update. I tried three different solutions on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 and no fixed it.

Too late now, my friend.  Running another repair facility - even if you can uninstall IE8 (which you can not according to your last post) - won't fix everything.

Your only recourse now is to a format the hard drive & then (b) make a clean Windows installation.

  • where windows update download files to install?

I have Windows Update set to automatically download files to install, but not to install actually automatically as it never fails he made them while I'm in the middle of an online game and I'm kicked out the game to restart.

But I am running Windows XP Professional (a Win 7 deleted) which is 32-bit.  Windows Update downloaded IE 8 but it's raw processor; I think that x 82 or x 86.   Since it has not been installed I can not go to the control panel to delete must be found so I can remove it and get rid of the darn yellow exclamation point and pop-up window telling me I have downloads waiting for installation.

    Thank you
