try to install windows update (kb971737), but I get the error
whenever I try to install this update I get error 80070020, I tried all (safe mode with network-clean boot-dissabeling antivirus and firewall, manual installation) nothing worked
My os: win vista ultimate sp2 64-bit
anti-virus: norton 360 v2 + windows deffenderYes, I use ie8 you think if I UPGRDE TO NORTON 360 V3 COULD SOLVE this?
If you have installed (no upgrade to) N360 2010 v3.0, IE8 would be much more effective for you, but I suspect that this will not to solve the problem you experienced when you try to install KB971737, don't.
Here's what you could try though:
1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).
3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).
4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.
NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (for example, navigation; read E-mail; cat download other stuff) until you have completed step #8 below!
5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.
6. While N360 is no longer present on the computer, see if you can install KB971737 (and offered security critical updates) now.
7. now, to do a clean install of N360 2010 (using your product ID, if necessary) & restart: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN
TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.
8. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a prompt "no update more".

When I bought my laptop, it came with windows xp. I found that there was a lot of programs that were not compatible with xp, so I asked microsoft one say upgrade to windows 7 to upgrade my system. Everything worked fine until about 3 months ago when I kept getting a message on my screen that says that my copy of windows 7 is not genuine. I tried all the tools on the microsoft Web site to solve this problem, but nothing has worked. Finally, I used the diagnostic tool to verify I checked that I put in the activation code is right, what is causing me to pass this message and what I can do to correct that only cost me an arm and a leg? Thank you for your help.

Original title: Windows 7 critical updates
A number of critical updates made automatically in the last two days. He was stuck in a loop "failed to install...". "for hours. I tried to make it a point to restore in safe mode, and it is stuck in a loop (more than 12 hours). I tried to uninstall and it won't let me. Now I get "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the windows installer is not installed properly. "If I turned off the computer and do not ne pas demarrer start in safe mode, shut up always on the original"failed to install ". I need help!
Windows restore points have never been of any property,

I tried to install a program and I got an error message that says "Windows Installer" is not installed correctly and I need to contact the support staff. I get also a message when I log that says steetings.ini is occupied by another program and it will not allow the sidebar to come.
Try the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to troubleshoot the problem with Windows Installer:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml.
For the issue of the Sidebar, do a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem. Follow the procedures described in the article. Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall. Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!
