Windows Update not working do not Error Message and Windows Defender cannot update Error Message definitions

I have a laptop Dell 1501 with Vista Home Basic 32-bit.

I ran CA 2010 Security Suite and you have scanned for Malware with regard to the Windows Update Error Message. He found none. I ran Microsoft Malware malicious tool, and it found. I ran Windows Defender and he found. I don't have CA and Windows Firewall to protect my computer and I have disabled both in trying to solve this problem of Windows Update and Windows Defender.

I got this error 4 days ago. Here is what I tried:

-I went on various Web sites, including Microsoft Support - and tried to solve the problem through services.msc and msconfig.exe. None worked.

-J' noticed in msconfig. where it says start waiting next to Windows Update. There are 3-4 elements, which are affiliated to Windows Update and made sure they did not exist in the registry.

-J' have to ensure that they were supposed to be automatic or manual under services.msc.

-J' rebooted several times and nothing changes.

Windows Defender does not update the definitions, and I do not know if this coincides with the release of Windows does not.

I am at my wit's end and do not want to crash and burn my computer.

I had to call Microsoft. Alex tried to add registry keys and input upgrade.

My Windows Update has almost been altered. It could be my mistake or it has become corrupted when running other services at the same time.

I was sent a Windows 7 Home Premium Disc to upgrade and start over, as my Vista disk was corrupted as well.

I would not recommend trying one of the suggestions listed on other sites. It's my personal opinion because I have in the past and it worsened my problem.

I also wouldn't delete all programs (unless absolutely necessary) because I remove 4 MSMXL and he made their work more difficult.


Sometimes the only solution is to call Microsoft and they will evaluate if a charge of telephone support is necessary from the outset, before they run for your problem.

Despite what you may have read, Microsoft Technical Support technicians are very efficient and kind.

Mine took 2 1/2 hours, and they had to remind me the next day to make the order for the disk because it could not be done the same day.

    If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

    MS Security Essentials, which apparently you have installed your anti-virus/security protection, has its own component antimalware and disables Windows Defender when it is installed correctly. If your system works as expected. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

    Thanks Peter for try... nothing seemed to have worked. I finally got to the Adobe phone support team (CAT Team killed our conversation two times). I looked through a ton of steps I can't really, technically describe... but in general, I had to log out and log in with a user 'root' and then go to multiple system and user files illustrator and indesign, change their name and then several illustrator and indesign touched files... to change their permission to add my profile main user. Once I did it (it took about 20 minutes), everything worked again. I hope this help anyone who runs into a similar situation. Sorry I couldn't explain better.

Search for an online solution and close the program (which does nothing) or close the program.    WHY?  McAfee scan says there is nothing wrong with the computer... There is something wrong. Impossible to get websites to find, or they are very slow.

    I have VISTA Home Basic edition, Emachine, bought 32 year THAT VISTA was released this January.

    That is to say 9 - seems to work better than 8 (which took awhile to do)

    SP2 is installed and I believe that most, if not all the updates are installed.

    Oh, and no matter what flash supported won't run... little is a nice way of saying. My flash player update. It is mess up until I had to update. :(

    Try the suggestion of Azam K.  If this help not to do the following:

    McAfee should have disabled Windows Defender.  If not, or if you did turn back on, you must turn it off.   Windows Defender cannot be uninstalled from the Vista OS, but can be disabled to avoid conflict with other programs.

    You will probably need to uninstall Flash and reinstall it:

    I don't really like to make a negative comment on an anti-malware program, but McAfee has a reputation for sometimes bogged down operating systems.  If your problem persists, you will need to uninstall McAfee (to include using the McAfee removal tool) and see if that has any impact on your computer problems.  If there is an improvement, you may consider trying another program BC

    Windows Defender may have been uninstalled.  Look in Control Panel to see if it is still listed.

    Windows Defender cannot be used with AVG, McAfee, MSE or Norton.  It is part of the Vista and Win 7 operating system and cannot be uninstalled.

    Windows Defender must be uninstalled XP if you use AVG, McAfee, MSE and Norton.  If you use these programs on your XP operating system, please be sure that Windows Defender has been uninstalled (from Control Panel).

    Start button > in the search box, type msconfig > Enter > click on Startup tab. Here's your startup programs.
    To disable, uncheck the box in front

    If you have the following AV, antivirus, programs installed, close your Windows Defender. Purpose of these AVs have their own advocates. 2 defenders on the same machine will create conflicts.
    Bottom line: it's ok. It's normal.

    If you don't have AV programs above, here's how to restart Windows Defender:
