Those are kind of prerequisites and probably will not solve the problem.

Products of security/antivirus/antispyware are a known cause, so you can turn them off like

    My wife's computer has not been updated since 12/08/2011. It runs Microsoft VISTA 32-bit Service Pack 2. I downloaded the Microsoft virus tool, and it found nothing. I also ran several programs: MS Security Essentials (full scan), SpywareBlaster, MalwareAnti bytes, Spybot Search & Destroy and CC Cleaner. Nothing significant was found. Everything works normally on the computer, but cannot get the Windows updates every day I put them. I noticed in the Windows Security Center, user account control (which is under other security settings) had been turned off, so I turned it on. But even with all that, when I try manually check the updates, I get an error Code 80070005. What gives?

    Hello

    As I said that it is a very difficult issue to resolve.

    Did you use all of these methods, including the last link to the other thread?

    If you have used all then possibly an InPlace upgrade/repair Installation might
    help that allows to maintain the programs and data backups although redundant
    are always a good idea.

    You can use another DVD that aren't copy protected but you you need to own
    Product key. It must be the same version 32 or 64 BIT Vista OEM. Also the system
    machine to usually sell the cheap disk since you already own Windows. Don't forget to make a
    good backup or 3 (security in redundancy).

    =====================================

    If nothing works then, you can use BING or Google and search for all types of suggestions
    many whom will be totally false.

    Perhaps the best choice is a new installation. You can use copy and paste to the backup
    the data on CD, DVD, or USB drives.

    Error code 0 x 80070005 usually indicates that you don't have enough privileges or the operation is blocked. I know, some programs (Boot Camp on a Mac PC, etc.) is not compatible with Windows 7, if you have installed these programs on the computer, you may not be able to perform the upgrade.  You should uninstall these programs before upgrading. In addition, such a question may be related to UAC, I recommend you turn off UAC in Windows Vista, if you have installed security software, try uninstalling the security application as well.
