Windows Update will not download, just stays at 0%

Hi, past the month or so my windows update will not download at all. I never had no problems until now. Im running on windows 7 64. I'll start, click windows update and download hit. Once I have click on windows update, it just sits there with the bar running, showing me his 0%. Please if someone might know a solution, that would help a lot.

Yes.  I had the same problem, I installed the update when my power went out, so I couldn't download it, but managed to get the update that I needed the microsoft Web page and we smooth sailing since then.

  • Windows Update will not download?

    When I try and download windows updates it remains at 0% and will not download. Also any secondary windows pop up I opened Virgin rest. These errors started exactly at the same time. I use windows 7 and Norton 360 (4.0)

    Norton 360 v4.x was not released until February 17, 2010. If you have purchased & installed Norton 360 in August 2009, it was Norton 360 v3.x, so you must have upgraded to v4.x because you upgraded to Win7 in October 2009.

    Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. [No, Norton Support will not tell you this.] Norton 360 v3.x "leftovers" can be cause of your problem.

    [You want to print the following instructions for consultation offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (includingLiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

    4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

    NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of the latest version of Norton 360 (using your product ID, if necessary) & restart:http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

    IMPORTANT! -Online do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8. If you have had problems with Internet Explorer 8, perform a reset now: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Reset-Internet-Explorer-settings

    8 b. Open IE8 (only) (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run the difficulty by DEFAULT inside and then AGGRESSIVE modes (again). [1]

    9. restart & test.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    [1] full Disclosure: the difficulty operating in AGGRESSIVE mode will remove your update history but not the list of installed updates.
  • Windows Update will not download updates.
    Today I've eliminated my Windows xp and you use the xp disk I reloaded and formatted a new. I did this in the past and had no problem today, I find that after doing everything and windows stops then I went to windows update, that he asked to install active x and will not update download. There is nothing in my add and remove programs. Not sure how to proceed
    Open Internet Options, Security tab, click Trusted sites, click Sites.
    Uncheck: Require server verification box, add the 4 websites above.
    Try again, if successful, use the custom Option and uncheck all of the updates.
    Read the first update for .net to tell the first and only download.
    Download it, reboot and go back to check again for any .net and .net only download.
    Make updates to .net security, then check again for .net or .net Security.
    When there is no more .net then do the other.
    Perform these tasks in groups and not all at the same time.
    This how to install .net first will save problems later.
    If you want to have the time and Patience, you must install the Service Packs first.
    If you later reinstall OS and you install the drivers manually install the Service Packs right after OS reinstalled before installing any drivers. You can first install the drivers but it is better Service Packs first as sometimes when you install a Service Pack after the drivers, you can find some drivers do not work and you have to reinstall these drivers.
    For people using the original image, your drivers are already installed then install Service Packs just after the factory restore before installing applications or devices or download Windows updates.
    Service Packs using immediately also save hundreds of download of the updates of Windows first of all that all updates to the top until the release of Service Packs are included.
  • Windows updates will not download/install
    I have an Asus laptop that is about 2 years old.  I am running Windows 8 on a 64 bit system.  The laptop only periodically adjusts and downloads from previous update failed.  Now, when I start it tells me that there are 115 updates to download.  After leaving try and download these all day yesterday, he stopped, display of the progress bar on 99% c, but it will not go further.  I tried the upgrade to 8.1, but will not proceed until the updates are complete.  I had hoped that the 8.1 installation would simply replace previous updates that were needed - apparently not!
    I don't know what to do next - any suggestions?
    Thank you.
    [1] another option is probably just to let off Windows updates and continue to use it as it is.
    [2] of course, I'm protected by Norton...
    A1. Yes, if the computer will NEVER be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers).
    A2. I suspect your Norton application is not installed or working properly.
    Note: The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.
  • Windows Update will not download files January 2016
    I am running Windows 7 and I am trying to download all updates from January 12, 2016.  The download does not start, sitting at 0% for more than half an hour. No error code is displayed. A laptop computer that I also use properly updated this morning. There is no problem with my internet connection.
    Windows Update displays: 23 updates, (Total of 0 KB, 0% complete).
    I restarted the computer (the button turn off had a yellow shield, indicating the necessary to install updates, closing took a lot of time to finish), when the finished computer restart I ran an app such FixIt recommended by using Microsoft Windows Update. Now, Windows Update is hung on the status of "check for Updates". Cancelled that and found another utility here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/windows-update-issues?wa=wsignin1.0. As utility works for nearly 15 minutes, stuck on "Solve problems" will wait a little longer before canceling this utility.
    Restart your computer and wait 30 minutes for the system to operate before you download information. When the review much, not Event Viewer log files all problems show in the period immediately after the computer has booted.
    Please provide a copy of your system information file.     To access the system, log, select Start, Control Panel, administrative tools, Event Viewer, in the list on the left of the window, expand Windows logs and select System. Place the cursor on the system, select the Action in the Menu and record all events like (the evtx default file type) and give a name to the file. Do the same for the application log.   • Important Windows updates will not download
    When I checked yesterday for Windows updates, I see there are 11 important updates and 1 optional.  However, after I check/select the updates to install, nothing happens.  They do not download, so they cannot be installed.  I put my updates is installed by me and not automatically because I did once.  What is the problem here?
    Ensure that the Service "Windows Update" and the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" are running and not registered in the Services window.
    in "search programs and files" type "services" (without the quotes).
    In the results, click on 'services', should open the services window.
    Check BITS and Windows Update are listed and started.
    If the services are listed but not started, try to launch by right-clicking on the service properties, [general] tab, then click . You must be in a session of admin account to start or stop a service.
    If they are listed and started, then try to manually select an update by itself and see if it installs ok. If it is not always download it, then deselect and try another. None of them download ok by themselves?
    How long have you waited? There has been some recent reports that updates take longer time to download that in the past.
    See if the system can update now. If no joy, run it again with the system connected to the internet, in aggressive mode. Turn it back on.
This is why you don't see the update history even if the system can connect to Windows Update. Open the ReportingEvents.log located in Windows\Software Distribution to examine the history of update.
  • Unable to use wireless internet. In addition, my windows update will not be installed.
    Original title: extended error code = Oxfof4
    I have a couple of different symptoms. My laptop acts like it doesn't even have wireless capabilities although the exact model the same sitting next to her was a strong wireless signal (I still had internet capability on this laptop also). In addition, my windows update will not be installed.  I checked "Event Viewer" in system tools and have all sorts of errors. Error service Control Manager, "Warning b57w2k", code error Windows Update Agent and more. Still, the laptop doesn't move and accesses files, but no internet. I scanned with AVG and Malwarebytes 0 infection. Uugh!  Any suggestions?
    Many laptops have a switch that turns on or off the wireless radio.  This can be a physical switch somewhere on the laptop or a combination of the Fn key and one of the F keys.  Read the user manual for the laptop for more details.
    The warning includes "b57w2k" seems to be linked to a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller (not wireless, wired).  You can click the copy (just below the up/down arrows) on the property sheet for the event and paste the content in your next post here.
    In general, the report that you have 'all kinds of errors' in Event Viewer is not very useful.  We do not understand what you're watching.
