  Something to consider: If your system is already suggesting a REFRESH or RESET - get 8.1 Windows installed as well as this is unlikely to fix anything.  If your system has a problem, you really want to fix as soon as POSSIBLE, do not add more variable to the situation.  :-)

  A RESET would be a clean install of Windows 8.  Everything from scratch.  It would be necessary to make a backup of your files, folders, numbers of series and product keys, installation media, etc. in advance * if * you don't want data loss.

  A factory recovery/restore - though - that means that belongs to your system manufacturer.  It's their process.  You should consult with them this information if this is an option you are looking at.
