Windows updates keep repeating
I use XP Home Edition on a laptop HP Pavilion. There are 4 updates to Windows that keep install every time I turn on my computer, but there is always an icon on the taskbar that says that there are updates ready to install. As you can imagine, it's a real nuisance, as turn off the computer takes a long time each time. In fact the problem is long enough, and I'm just trying to do something. I am Setup to automatic updates.
How can I find a 'switch' that will tell Windows that these updates are already installed?
BobRV
I sent my email to Microsoft ended Sunday night. To my surprise, there was an answer waiting for me on Monday morning. I know that it came from China - in part of the name of the sender & partly because my Jan 3 was not a holiday for them - I didn't expect "the next business day.
The response email gave me detailed instructions for uninstalling & reinstalling ".NET Framework - all Versions. After I did I checked a few times to update Windows Installer a few high priority updates that have shown, until there is no more high priority updates available. The final check was carried out Tuesday am after a night at the request of automatic update. "Update History" showed no activity download this automatic update, & even when there is no update available high priority. At one point during the activity on Monday, the icon who has shown in the taskbar with updates of repetition missing & no has not returned. So - it seems that the problem is solved.
I was very impressed by the speed of the response from Microsoft Support, & I'm always impressed with assistance that provide MVPs like you.
Thanks again for your help.

Update for Windows XP (KB2676562) security and update for Windows XP (KB270511) security won't stop asking Installation, even after several installs!
Hello
Were there any changes (hardware or software) to the computer before the show?
I suggest you perform the steps mentioned in the link and checking.
Windows Update or Microsoft Update repeatedly offers the same update
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/910339
You can run the automated FIXIT and check if this may help; If it isn't then you can perform other manual steps mentioned in the link.
Note: there is a risk of data loss if all the files are infected and which can be removed in the cleaning process.

Windows Update keeps repeating.
I have Windows XP SP3 OS. I have the auto update feature set. Windows is my default firewall. Successfully and recently I downloaded and installed the following updates:
A security update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 on Windows server 2003 and Windows XP x 86 (KB2832411).
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and the .NET Framework 3.5 family Update for versions of .NET 2.0 to 3.5 (KB951847) x 86.
The problem is one or both come back as new updates. I have installed at least three times, and yet I still get the repetitions.
Can someone tell me how to prevent the repetition of these updates?
Hi 10crackers, thanks for the help. Your suggestion has helped to solve the problem I had. First I ran the repair of Microsoft .NET Framework tool, but who has not remedied the problem. I was about to follow your next steps suggested to uninstall the .NET Framework 3.5 and others, but before doing that I decided to see what updates have been installed in Add/Remove programs. Security update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x 86 (KB2832411) has been installed in fact but kept repeating the offer to install a new update. To my surprise, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and the .NET Framework 3.0 versions of .NET 2.0 to 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x 86 was not installed that each Setup attempt has been highlighted as a successful download and installation. Once I saw KB951847 update has not been installed I just went to Windows Update and select custom scan as you suggest. And KB951847 was the only necessary update. Once I downloaded and installed this update offer repeated editing has ceased. This update has been done a few hours ago now, and so far no repeated updates offers. Even if I did have to uninstall all .NET frameworks you suggested, I have still Bravo will give you to send me to the Add/Remove Programs then Windows updates. These are the right things.
Thanks for your help. I guess why you make a lot of money.

Drop support for Windows Vista is apparently present but perhaps without notice.
Three weeks since July 14, 2015 Windows Update has repeatedly tried and failed to install seven updates. Three other updates cannot be installed while in time (KB3072633, KB3057154, KB3065979) but was finally installing manually through Microsoft Download Center. Further attempts by MDC didn't settle because "the update does not apply to your system" (KB3070102, KB3067903). KB3072630 update did not show an available option of Windows Vista. The remaining updates would download a version of Vista but just have not installed (KB3070102, KB3079904, KB309392, KB3067505 and KB3065822, which is a Cumulative of IE9 for Windows Vista update).
With no fix that works my PC will apparently try to download these and other updates in perpetuity. Some files, such as KB915597, is constantly to be installed and reinstalled successfully during this time.
I tried to upgrade Vista on TOSHIBA to my mother, it runs cpu to slow to 46%, I'm sure I need of more memory, my concern is that I just tried to upgrade on my HP17 for the new completely WIN10 have not upgraded, but froze on a continuous flashing, cannot access via ctrl alt esc file insight and nothing moves percentages are 0 nothing downloaded? or downloaded?

Windows Update keeps wanting to install "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2618444)", even if it appears in the list of updates to inistalled in the control panel. The installation fails. When I use "Fix it", it indicates that default Windows update data locations have changed, but I can't 'Fix It' to do the repair. In what could be a related issue, Windows Data Execution Prevention (part of IE 8?) detects a malfunctioning or malicious add-on, whenever I try to access a video on ESPN3 and closes the Web page. However, 'Fix It' can not detect any problems with the modules. I don't know what else to try to fix any of these problems.

Windows Update keeps updated tioir to update installed
I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 on my laptop and installed a number of updates successfully on 11 and 13 July 2013.
But Windows Update keeps me offering updates security KB2729450, KB2742569, KB27789643, KB2804577, KB2833940 and KB2844285 and KB952069. I get no error message and they show installed successfully in my update history.
I ran MS Fix Center several times without success. On checking through my control panel, I discovered that the first 6 had actually been installed - I uninstalled and reinstalled, but Windows Update always their offer. I see that KB952069 has been downloaded, but it is not in the security updates that I can see through the control panel; so I do not know if it is also installed (doesn't seem to be the case). I've now hidden these 7 updates in desperation. How to solve this problem?
Good to know and happy you have sorted it.
I know about this tool but didn't think he could solve the problems of update. -
Windows Update keeps trying to install K2686828 and KB2656369.
Windows Update keeps trying to install K2686828 and KB2656369. Whenever I tells me the installation succeeds only to ask again to update. I tried the fix - it solutions, and they have not corrected the problem. Also, I did a virus scan and found nothing. All my other updates were installed without problem.
This problem is related to the MSI registration information inconsistancies. I was able to fix by using a cmd "msiexec /i {C09FB3CD-3D0C-3F2D-899A-6A1D67F2073F} ADDLOCAL = ALL/l * v % temp%\repairLog.txt. At the end of this process, the two installed normally KB and I have now no critical updates in the meantime. I noticed that article 917964 described a situation where IE would not work if the repairs were made the xp without removal of IE8 or IE 7 first. My IE 8 works fine. By 917964, "before you perform a repair of Windows XP installation, you must uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Internet Explorer 8 of the Windows XP computer.". If you perform a repair of Windows XP installation, when a later version of Internet Explorer is still installed, Internet Explorer does not once the repair is complete. »

original title: WHY Windows Update keep up to date USELESS of Windows Defender and installation USELESS malware remover?
I'm a computer technician who makes a TON of virus remove money from Windows computers. Two-thirds of my tasks of repair involving the elimination of viruses from Windows and trying to fix the Internet Explorer, the worst browser known to humanity.
I have a question about Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool. These are two programs entirely worthless, evidenced by the fact that computers with them installed still get infected of all viruses, Trojan and rootkit out there. Clearly, if these two programs of malware Microsoft has done anything to protect your computer, it would have been without having to release still a THIRD tool antivirus, "security essentials" for Microsoft. I'm not complaining — the way Microsoft Windows absorbs malware like a sponge, put a lot of money in my bank account. Please keep doing what you're doing... however...
My question is, given that Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool doing nothing to protect against malware, why Windows Update keep harassing upgrade us on a regular basis?
Windows defender is not an antivirus program, it is designed to protect against spyware.
If you don't like them, so do not use them.
