Windows updates not working only not for me getting error ox8024400A

I am running windows xp (so-called version 5.1 with service pack 2).  I had to enter "winver" check.  In addition, whenever I try to update microsoft windows, I get an error message (ox8024400A).  What's wrong?  I recently reinstalled windows XP.  My computer is in a very basic State.  No virus protection other than the additional analysis when I tried earlier to install Microsoft Security Essentials.

You must be at the level of SP3 to use Windows updates.

    Hello

Follow these steps to clear the software distribution folder.

    1. click on start and run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

Note on a Windows Vista computer, click Start, type services.msc in the search box, click services.msc and then click Run as administrator.

    2. in the Services (Local) pane, click Automatic updates and then click on stop.

    3. reduce the Services (local) window.

    4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note by default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the folder drive: \Windows\SoftwareDistribution. In this place, the drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed.

    5. make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then enlarge the Services (local) window.

    6. in the Services (Local) pane, click Automatic updates, and then click Start.

7 restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.

  • M5-581TG - he must install BIOS - UEFI to Windows 8 (not for updates)?

I have a M5-581TG. His version of BIOS is 1.12. I found in the support section there is a new version 2.11. Its description says "BIOS - UEFI to Windows 8 (not for updates)". I don't know what that means. I'm not in Windows 8. I am running Windows 7 and soon will be upgraded to Windows 10.

The question is: should I install BIOS version 2.11? Thank you.

You cannot mix versions of BIOS.

BIOS 1.x can be updated only with versions of BIOS 1.x

BIOS 2.x can be updated only with versions of BIOS 2.x

not to upgrades, we hear: If your system is windows 7 factory your BIOS is 1.x and may not use the BIOS 2.x versions.

    Hello

Try to re - install ZoneAlarm on laptop, BUT it tells me that I must upgrade to the Microsoft Windows Service Pack 1 (SP1) to do this... I am running Windows Vista and when I click on windows update it works for literally hours without anything happeneing.

Zone Alarm has a key valid license - but for some strange reason, he will not have, so I had to uninstall and reinstall ZoneAlarm - he tells me that I need this update - who will not come?

Note: Windows Firewall is turned on right now and when I look at 'exceptions' does not offer updates of windows as part of the selection list.

Please, any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know why not install microsoft office updates. Maybe because we use cracked versions of office. I think that these updates will not fail if we use a saved version of office 2003. is it so?.

First thing I would do is to remove the cracked versions and then make a broad analysis AV with malwarebytes and other utilities of the VA, not to say what other little hidden surprise, that you got for free.

  • Windows Update stopped working on Vista (Ultimate). Error code is 80070005. Difficulty?

When I go to Windows Update and click on ' Check for updates ', the display shows "Windows could not search for new updates", than he has ever been a check for updates and have never been installed, but the latter is false, as I received it regularly until recently. Of course the possibility to connect to the updates server was lost. A part of the Vista operating system is damaged? Recently, I uninstalled McAfee and installed Norton Internet Security.  Installation of Norton were possibly affecting the ability to receive automatic updates?  What is the solution?

I also get a message that I am not currently connected to any network, but I am actually connected to my home wireless network.  This message seems to have surfaced at same time as issue updates resurfaced.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

I'm about out of ideas here. Since running the removal of McAfee and then tool reset Windows Update did not solve the problem, this leaves us with only two choices in my humble OPINION:

    1. one or more of the measures of protection in real time from NIS are intefering (assuming that NIS installed & working properly); or...

    2. you see the effects of a hijackware infection.

OPTION A: Contact the Support of Norton (Symantec).

OPTION B: Carried out a thorough for hijackware.

Microsoft PCSafety provides users at home (only) with free assistance in dealing with infections by malicious software such as viruses, adware and spyware (including unwanted software).

    Otherwise...

    1. see if you can download/run the MSRT tool manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not analysis FAST!  You may need to download the MSRT on an uninfected machine and then transfer the MRT. EXE to the infected machine and the rename it, for example, SCAN. EXE, before being able to execute it!

    2. run this online scan (in Safe Mode with networking, if necessary):

    http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/Center/whatsnew.htm

    3. now after the required logs in an appropriate forum for assistance by an expert in the field. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!

I can recommend the assistance of experts available in these forums: http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?board=10.0, http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewforum.php?f=5, http://www.dslreports.com/forum/cleanup, http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.phpand http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

Good luck & please keep me on any progress you make.

  • Windows Update stopped working.

I have the 64 bit version of Windows 7 SP1 installed on my laptop [Dell Studio 1747 with processor i7 4 GB RAM & 750 GB hard drive.  Windows Update stopped working on my machine.  All updates through April 19, 2016 have been installed.  I already did the following:

    (1) installed the previous images dating back to several months

    (2) only run WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab to get error # 0 x 80070005 several times

    (3) race reset Win Update.bat unsuccessfully

    (4) run MicrosoftEasyFix20179.mini.diagcab without success

    (5) I tried install subinacl.msi and runs the recommended Reset.cmd file

    (6) installed WindowsUpdateAgent-7, 6 - x 64 .exe

All the latter were applied as suggested on the Microsoft Support Website.  None of these maneuvers in addition to the various applications of my antiviral software and malware, brought any resolution of the problem.  I would appreciate any suggestion short of a new facility, because I can't seem to find anywhere, all the new boards.

I don't know what worked, but Windows Update started to update itself again.  What I don't have, though, was to limit the number of updates, I got the update at some point, less than 30.  I read a post at one point noted that a large number of updates may increase the risk of errors of download and installation.  I had some mistakes on the first download, but those corrected when I download tracking the rest of the updates.  I do not wish that Microsoft would create a repair or update protocol independent site, because it seems that this is not an uncommon problem.

  • Windows Update crashes on the search for updates

I ran the windows update the diagnostic tool, but that doesn't seem to be able to solve the problem.

I read the other posts that I could find on this subject and tried a few things, but that did not fix it.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit pro, the last time I ran windows update successfully was a few months ago. In the log it says he did install something a few weeks ago that I don't really understand.

I really don't want to spend my time trying to solve this stupid nonsense, but my computer is in danger right now so please help me to solve this problem.

You will probably need to install KB3153199, KB3145739 and maybe KB3109094 in advance for windows update to work properly. Links provided here:

Since it is a Dell computer, chances are a Norton or McAfee free trial is preinstalled. When you have done the clean install, the free trialware would have ALSO reinstalled (but not valid now).  Let's see if the execution of two removal tools & a few tweaks resolves the behavior.

[You can print these instructions for reference offline. [If a step said to restart, restart! ]

    1. click right on the following link to download the Norton removal tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

1B. right click on the following link to download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. double-click on the file that you saved in # 1 a above, to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    3. double-click the file that you saved in # 1 b above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then reboot again.

4 start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove programs. Set Program Access and Defaults: select (check) the CUSTOM [<>] configuration option, and then click the arrows pointing to the far-right | Browser: select "Internet Explorer" here (to not "use my current... »). [1]

    Illustration: http://teamtutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/set-program-access-defaults-02.jpg

If you return to check the out parameter #1 above, it'll be "Use my current..." "but now it's going to be"point"to IE so that you don't need to change anything or reset. [Think of it.]

    5. now check your settings here: IE tools | Internet Options | Programs | Default web browser: If the make default button is NOT dimmed, click/press it.

    6. open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.

Note => for best results, check the option Remove personal settings .

    7. IMPORTANT - don't SKIP THIS STEP! Open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 of => [ignore the title & symptoms].

7B. do disappear/close the troubleshooter automatic pop - up; then...

7 c. run difficulty he 50202 in DEFAULT modes and AGGRESSIVE. [2]

    8 restart once more.

    9. open Internet Explorer (only!) at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com . Select CUSTOM and scan | See if you can install all the available now security updates (i.e., KB2660465, KB2647516 or KB2661637).

-Online if an update of root certificates is listed under the category of updates software optional on the left side of the window of scan results, install it to enjoy greater security of IE8. [3]

Tip: Do NOT install any other updates software optional or any updated material in option .
