Windows Vista crashes when configuring updates

I am currently using a Toshiba Satellite a305-s6916 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I had some problems with the computer so I decided to reinstall my OS and have a fresh start. I made the discs by the creator of recovery on the computer disk.

I reinstalled my OS, got all my files and programs on the computer, then started updates. When I installed Windows Vista Service Pack 2, my computer rebooted, went to the "Configuring updates 2/3 0% ' screen and stayed there." The circle of "loading" froze, I let it sit for an hour and finally started strong. He went to the same screen and froze, I rebooted it in safe mode, it starts normall (not in safe mode), and then asked me to do more updates. I let it reboot and he did the same thing, I rebooted again and he went to the same page with horizontal lines on the screen. I picked up in safe mode, it went through updates and seemed fine. I was using the computer and about 30 minutes later, he froze and made the lines again.

I decided to reinstall the OS again in case I did something wrong or had a virus transferred in my files. I did reinstall fees disks on my computer of friends (same model bought the same day). This time, I didn't install programs or documents with the exception of my antivirus (eset). I immediately started this updates a little at a time. In a first time no problem, but he did 72 updates automatically, it froze on a similar screen, I rebooted and it worked fine (successful installation). I then continued to make updates. I got an error 80070570 for some and it is resolved by following the steps listed on http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/itprovistasp/thread/829de30b-0634-4186-9172-90cd5776b48c forum. (I have listed these steps below as well) I did not receive any other errors failed after that. When I did the update to IE 8 that it froze again, I rebooted and it has started well. I did several facilities and had problems with one more (I forgot to save that one).

I went until I didn't have Windows Vist SP2 on the list to download. I left this download and restart it, it froze again on 2 of 3 0% screen configuration updates, I restarted, same thing, then restarted in safe mode. He started up very well.

Although it seems to work once I started strong each time, I know I shouldn't have these freezing problems.

Any help is appreciated.

  • Update Windows Vista crashes with 'check updates'

Last month, Windows Vista updates began to hang on to the 'check updates'.

I have: 1. tried all the fixes I could find.
2 reloaded Vista with SP1 from a recovery partition.
3 update worked until SP2; SP2 downloaded and installed OK.

    4. then, the update said I need latest update agent (7.6.7600.256). Downloaded and installed OK. At this point, the Windows update fails.
    5. If I uninstall SP2, but let the agent update, it works. When I reinstall SP2, it fails.

    6. I have installed a completely different image of Vista - this one was integrated in SP2. This version fails in the same way.

    7. I ran SFC, CHKDSK, System diags, updated all my drivers updated BIOS and replaced the memory. As far as I can tell this is the only thing that does not work on my PC.

Anyone has any ideas. ? -Thanks!

    Hi Ichabod22:

Thanks for your comments, and happy this worked.  I did have the chance to try this workaround yet - my phase "check for updates..." ran for 4 hours during my may 2016 updated Patch Tuesday before we found 16 available updates - but quite a few users of Win 7 SP1 and SP2 of Vista are now reporting that before installing these updates Windows kernel mode driver (Win32k.sys) each month (for example the KB3145739 in April 2016; KB3153199 in may 2016) reduced their updates for Patch Tuesday to hours to minutes.

I doubt that this is a permanent solution so be sure to check the page Web of Dalai Search for Windows Updates takes forever?-a possible solution next month to see if a new version of Win32k.sys is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center before your race updates your June 2016 Patch Tuesday.

Woody Leonhard has published a series of articles on of temporary workaround in his Woody on Windows blog, including Windows 7 update scans still holding? KB 3153199 can solve the problem, so congratulations to Woody, Dalai and others to share this potential solution.

    Hi bissie,.

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Community Forums.

Sometimes an error occurs on your computer and you're immediately struck by a mistake. The only problem is that the screen flashes if fast as you rarely get to see what may have caused the error in the first place. Once we get to know the error that we would be in a better position to solve the problems on the issue.

First of all, we will try to disable the auto restart so that we get the full error. Follow the steps to disable it.

    1. click on the Start button

    2. from Start menu click Control Panel

    3. in Control Panel, click on the system icon

    4. in the window system to look on the left side of the window and you will see a list of options. Click the advanced system settings option

    5. because the management of the computer requires administrative privileges, you can find the user account control is displayed. If she then enter the required information (if you are not the administrator) or, if you are the administrator, click on the button continue

    6. in the advanced settings window, look for the startup and recovery section and then click on the settings button

    7. in the startup and recovery window, find the marked section of the system failure and delete the "tick" of the option 'automatically restart '. Now press the OK button

    8. Finally, click the OK button in the System Properties window, and then close the system window.

Also as you mentioned that this was happening a few days ago then you can try to perform a system restore. Restore the computer to a point while it was working fine.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on finish.

The computer restarts and system files and settings are back to the State they were in when the restore point was created.

    Hello

Try to re - install ZoneAlarm on laptop, BUT it tells me that I must upgrade to the Microsoft Windows Service Pack 1 (SP1) to do this... I am running Windows Vista and when I click on windows update it works for literally hours without anything happeneing.

Zone Alarm has a key valid license - but for some strange reason, he will not have, so I had to uninstall and reinstall ZoneAlarm - he tells me that I need this update - who will not come?

Note: Windows Firewall is turned on right now and when I look at 'exceptions' does not offer updates of windows as part of the selection list.

Please, any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.

  • Lenovo SL500 Windows Vista crashed with STOP: 0x0000007B (0x80599BB0, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) error and won't start.

Original title: Lenovo SL500 Windows Vista crashed with STOP error message and won't start

    Hello peoples,
I just installed an iMicro Bluetooth adapter on my computer, and then I wanted to restart my computer. When I turned it on, loading like regular until right after the Vista loading screen, when the Blue Screen of Death (a blue screen with an error on this subject) flashed for about 1/2 second and then restarted my computer. Then he asked me if I wanted to load startup repair or simply start WIndows normally and I chose to start WIndows normally, but it's the same thing, so when the computer is restarted again, I chose the Startup Repair. He said that if I inserted an external device in my computer for me to remove it. But I had no external devices in my computer at the same time! I already pulled the iMicro adapter! So when my computer restarted again, I pressed the button Lenovo Care and charge of Lenovo Rescue and Recovery 4. (This is where I am now, typing away in the Opera browser.) I tried to find help, but could not find anythign useful so far. I installed for many drivers, updates, patches, etc. But none have anything to remove the blue screen of death. Now, after 7 hours, I really frustrated, and this is my last hope! (I don't want to save my hard drive and reinstall, because I paid more than 250 applications and more than 270 free programs on my computer! Of more, more than 350 iPad apps, of which a few are paid! Oh and 700 iBooks!)
Help, please! I'm really desperate right now, and any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

PS I run Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 (I think) on a Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 (NOT SL500c!)

PPS Lenovo all computers have this Lenovo Rescue Recovery 4, which is like an operating system of its own. It has a browser that you can install updates and other things. Right now I use Rescue and Recovery. Thanks again in advance and please answer my question! I had this problem for a week and I'm in school tomorrow! Thanks again!

EDIT: The error message went like this:

A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove the hard drives newly installed on the hard disk controllers. Check your hard drive to ensure that it is configured and completed proeprly. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

    Hi emiquestion:

Long 'check for updates...' crashes and slow window updates are a currently a problem common to many users of Vista SP2 - please see the workaround suggested, I posted yesterday over BluesBlaster WINDOWS VISTA 32-BIT updates.

Note that it is a temporary workaround and updates slow Windows will probably return each Patch Tuesday (the second Tuesday of the month) after Microsoft also releases a new batch of updates to security for Vista SP2 and IE9.  Since September 2016 Patch Tuesday updates are published tomorrow (13-Sep-2016), it would be wise to wait a day or two to execute step-by-step instructions posted on June 16, 2016, in m #l's thread of updates does not, he has been looking for updates for hours and save yourself a bit of extra work this month.  Dalai normally updates its list of Windows kernel mode driver (Win32K.sys) implemented to date required the same evening that the Patch Tuesday, updates are published by Microsoftto the http://wu.krelay.de/en/ .
