Windows Vista Edition Home Premium: CD/DVD player shows no not in my computer - registry problem?

Hi there, im trying to fix my friends laptop. The CD/DVD drive will open and close but not write to disks. He does not appear in my computer, but is in the Device Manager. I tried to remove it from the Device Manager and reinstall, but that has not worked. I also tried a system restore, but that no longer works. After some research on the web, I found that some people edit removing the upperfilters in registry and that has solved the problem for them, however, I can't find the upper or lower filters in registry of cd/dvd players information. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Danny.

Hello slbenfica1,

1. have you checked if the drive appears in Device Manager and the BIOS?

If you have already tried the patches and removed the filters in the registry, it could be a hardware problem.

I suggest you check if the drive appears in the Device Manager and BIOS.

Here are the following steps to access the Device Manager:

How to optimize Internet Explorer

a. Click Start. In the start search box type "devmgmt.msc", and then press ENTER.

b. expand "Readers of DVD/CD ROM" and check the status of the device, see if you find a yellow fringe or exclamations.

Check also if you find the drive in the BIOS. You can consult the manufacturers manual and the instructions to check the shortcut key to start the computer's BIOS.

WARNING OF THE BIOS:

BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can resolved e. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    Hello

You're confused system recovery and system restore.

System Restore makes the settings from your computer to an earlier date; It will not reinstall the operating system.

System recovery reinstalls the operating system how much you bought your machine; as for the new State.

You can also make your own recovery discs.

Contact the person who sold it to your and get a replacement or Exchange CD-ROM.

There is no place on the way to upgrade 32-bit versions of Windows to Windows 7 64 bit. You will need to do a custom installation.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the necessary

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • Problem starting Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

Windows Vista Home Premium OS would start when I turn on the computer. I have to cut the power and then turn on to restart the system. My computer is a HP Pavilion dv2500 laptop purchased in mid-2008. I use the system repair, System Restore, etc, but I still have the same start-up problems. Can help me to offer a solution for this problem.

You can easily check if it is a hard drive problem.  To test your hard drive, check the manufacturer and then get the diagnostic utility of: http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/hard-drive-support/302602-hard-drive-diagnostic-utilities.html.  If she failed the test, replace it.  If she passes the test, then it's probably nothing wrong with it.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can also test it with chkdsk:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know how to test wireless card, except by the permutation try it with a known good to see if the problem is resolved, and if the problem moves.

    I hope this helps.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 with Windows Vista Home Premium.  This laptop has his OS damaged somehow, of great utility and inefficient clean ups.  After that failure with another attmpted fixed, I plan to reinstall Windows.  I have the original restore disks (recovery CD HP QuickPlay application (c) 2005 and the small Manual HP QuickPlay April 2005.  In this manual, it is said: If you plan to reinstall your operating system, first read... There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

Or borrow a good DVD (not Dell, HP, etc.) Vista.
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
