  You should have a sticker with the product key on your computer, on the bottom, or under the battery cover.  I try to type this key in and see if it accepts it.  If this isn't the case, you might not have an authentic version of Windows installed.

I do not know the product key, I bought my PC at Staples, and everything has been put in place in the store I don't even have my OS CD.   Legitimate retailers do not sell a product on its own key. Commercial version are sold in a box that includes 2 (32-bit and 64-bit) installation DVD and a card inside the box plastic that has the product key.

  Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft for this purpose the prices are extremely high and some sellers are doubtful, especially if the price is too good to be true.
