during the windows vista pack 2 update my antivirus will become obsolete?

    Hi victor,

It would be useful to know the name and the version of the antivirus program that you use. However, in general (and frankly I can't think an exception) upgrade Vista SP1 to SP2 will not make your out-of-date antivirus.  In fact, it will improve the overall security of your system.  But just to be on the good side, I suggest that you update your AV software once you have completed the upgrade to SP2 and installed all the additional Windows updates which will become available once you do this (and you may need to run a few times to get everything as some may be presented until others have been installed).

If you want suggestions of security software, please post your version of Vista (e.g., 32-bit Vista Business) as well as the names and versions of any software security you are currently using or have used or had installed even if you've never used (and when the definitions for the software in use have been updated).  These suggestions will be excellent and work well together (even if you can not install two AV programs at the same time, these are not all the AV programs but still aid in the detection and removal of malware, viruses and spyware.  And they are all completely FREE - nothing we suggest will not cost you even a penny and that they will be as good if not better that people pay money to get the bits.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

    original title: lost document

I got a new open word doc and is logged when Windows Vista did an update automatically and restart, now I seem to have lost! Any suggestions? A system restore wouldn't work?

If you have not saved the document before the reboot - and Windows always give a lot of warning before restarting automatically - while the file disappeared.  There is no way to recover; System Restore does apply to system files, not data.

  • Windows Vista - August 2010 update

Windows Vista - August 2010 update. Stuck at 17 of 18 updates. Hard drive is occupied after 17 hours of update.

    Hi JX2,.

    1. you receive an error message?

    2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

First restart the computer and check more later history of the update to get the update failure and post details back with details.

    (a) open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then in the list of results, click Windows Update.

    (b) in the left pane, click view update history.

    (c) to view more information about an update, double-click it.

Also try to install new updates after restart the computer after the computer is clean boot state in order to avoid any interference from third-party program while installing updates.

See the Microsoft article below and try again mentioned step

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • Windows wants to install updates for Office 2002 and Office XP and I have VISTA and Office 2007

I have read many topics and I can't seem to find the same problem I have.  I use Windows VISTA Home Premium (32 bit) for awhile and since June 30, 2009, I had bad download and install Windows updates.  I installed updates today, but I continue to be invited to run/install updates for Office XP and Office 2002 (currently about 9).  I used VISTA and Office 2007 for some time.  I believe that I have IE 7 and SP2.  I appreciate any help I can get to fix this.  Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello SKYisDlimit,

After my communication to you, I continued to the Internet using the search.  I was finally able to locate the file you suggested (Msmapi\1033) he successfully Office Pro 2003 Outlook running.  Thank you!!

I don't know if you're alone in asking the question following or not, but I'm still able to re - install Microsoft Office Professional 2007.  I uninstalled after information I received of Santosh, and it has the re - install Office Pro 2003 (which have been upgraded).  Now when I try to reinstall 2007 (bought in February 2007), I keep getting the following message: "Setup is unable to find a version of Microsoft Office on your computer.  If Office is installed on a disk or a network share, click the buttun browse to select the appropriate disk or sharing.  If you have a version of MB on a CD, insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive, and then click the Browse button to select the appropriate drive. »

I tried several times without success.  Of course, I use Office 2003 Pro, so it's on the computer.  If you are unable to solve this problem, please either direct to the appropriate area or tell me who I need to contact.  Once again, thank you in advance for your help.  Needless to say, it's more frustrating!

  • Windows Vista is not updates.

My Windows Vista is not updates. I get a message that says that one or more components of Windows Update are configured incorrectly. How can I configure my Windows updater?

    1. open Internet Explorer (only!) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336> [ignore titles, etc..], the pop-up troubleshooting automated dismiss then run difficulty he 50202 in DEFAULT and modes and AGGRESSIVE. [Ignore warnings "Not recommended", etc.].

    2. restart & test.

Full disclosure: the difficulty operating in AGGRESSIVE mode will remove your update history but NOT list the updates installed in Add/Remove programs.

  • When I scan for Windows Vista Service Pack update (published 4/2009) comes in,

I redid my computer a few months ago restore to factory settings and restore my files from a backup disk. Everything seemed to work properly.  A few weeks ago a full scan found a worm & some virus which I removed. Now, I have a problem with the updates. When I scan for Windows Vista Service Pack update (published 4/2009) arrives.  When I click to install it, it is saying it is correctly installed (in 30 seconds) and yet he continues to come when I'm scanning for updates.    Should I restore settings again?  After looking for info on the forums of windows, I did the System File Checker to check corrupt files.  Several corrupted files appear in the details of the SFC.  But their fixation is "over my head".   I glued the SFC details below. Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

  • Windows Vista cannot be updated because the service does not work!

Windows Vista will not update because it says that the service is not running.  He said I might have to restart the computer.

I tried several reboots the computer.

I tried to get into the services and manually stop and restart the service.  Nothing seems to work.

I'm downloading the SP2 for Vista, let's see if that fixes the problem.

    Any help?

  • My windows Vista (sp2) contains updates it refuses to install! Help, please.

My windows Vista (sp2) contains updates it refuses to install!

    (1) Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows (KB2468871)
    (2) update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (KB2533523)
    and
    (3) update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2617986) this update of Silverlight includes the fixes described in KBs 2604930 and 2617986.
When I tried to get help via the MS support, I was told that my install Silverlight could be the problem and uninstall all previous versions and install a new one.
The current version on my machine is 3. something or other (Google Chrome me briefly earlier, but I can't seem to tell me yet again!) He also pointed out that the current version is 5. something or other.  However, I don't know--according to the functionality of uninstall in Control Panel - my version was installed on 21/01/2010 - about 7 months after I got the satellite (a Toshiba). It occurs to me - as it has been ongoing for awhile I fought first to make this thing work and then ignore it (neither of which, it seems, I am able of!)-update Windows is trying to apply can be updated too!
According to the update of Windows, all three of these updates have downloaded - but I am not sure where...   When I tried to uninstall the old version of Silverlight, Windows Uninstall (via Control Panel) tells me that I need the Silverlight installation disc to go ahead. I've never had one! What can I do? Why these upgrades do not work? It has been for months!  Help, please.

  • Windows install the latest updates on my phone and now I can't access the internet

Windows Installer automatically of updates on my computer and now even if the system connects to the wireless network and I have only local access he has no internet access.  I tried both with the wired and wireless options and nor will not work.  Everything worked fine until the update system - do not know if I have to do a system restore to when he installed updates (I tried to restore to a point a few days before the download, but it failed) or if I should try to uninstall updates.  While I am not very confident with the work on the computer would like some advice on the best way to go.

  • Windows Vista security alert sending indicating virus attack and does not allow me to get security alerts. How to bypass or disable?

Windows Vista security alert sending indicating virus attack and does not allow me to get security alerts.  How to bypass or disable?  I have another anti-spyware (Kapersky) program that manages all aspects and indicates no virus found.

I want to disable Vista, but it won't let me and the only solution it says is to download a update for a cost.  Help, please.

The 'alert' is not from Vista. Your computer is infected by a rogue security program. It's called "thugs" because he pretended to be a good guy but is really bad. Don't pay them!

Malwarebytes' Anti-malware (MBAM) or SuperAntiSpyware will often do the job. Both have free versions and you don't need to buy these programs.

These can work for you, and all can be good. However, in many cases the computer will also infected with other horses of Trojan and protected by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean. If your machine is one of these cases, either the interactive assistance to one of the specialty forums listed in the link below, OR take your machine to a professional on the local computer OR backup your data and do a clean install of Windows. It's your choice. I do not recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places.

Updates fail for a more likely reason.

Check if you have errors associated with updates?

    1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, all programs and then click Windows Update.
    2. In the left pane, click view update history.
    3. Find an update for Windows that has failed to install, and then double-click the update to view more information. Updates that have failed to install will display failed under status, next to the name of update.
    4. In the Windows Update dialog box, next to the details of the error, review the error code for the update has failed.
    5. Follow the links in the dialog Windows Update under more information or help and Support to try to solve the problem, then try to reinstall the update by using Windows Update in Control Panel or to display error codes/messages and maybe someone may be able to help others.
