  • Windows Vista Home Basic - failed to read my own videos stored as mp4s

I bought a second hand laptop with windows Vista Edition family Basic. Time that you tube, uo catches tv etc fine but I can't read my own stored videos as mp4s, the media player has been uninstalled. When I go on sites offering free download of windows media player for vista hb, my father always Advisor blocks downloads and advise that I will not continue. The MS Windows own site simply says that media player is included, and there is no download. I know it must be included, but the mine has been removed. Any help? Please keep in mind that I am a poor student. Thank you.

There are a few things, you can try to solve the problem, but first: make sure that you are not running Windows Vista Basic Home Edition N. The version N of Windows is designed without media playback capabilities. Just take a glance at the logon screen should show you the edition is installed.

Another possibility is that Windows Media Player is there, but it is disabled. To enable:

    1. click on the Start button > Control Panel > programs > turn Windows features on or OFF. Provide confirmation if necessary.

    2. wait for the window to load and then expand multimedia functions. If Windows Media Player is not checked, select it and hit apply. When Setup is complete, restart your PC.

Hope this helped, let us know what was going on.

This record is for the gateway only computer.

    Read this:

If your computer is pre-installed with Vista, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a license of Vista at retail, you can transfer it to another computer/laptop.
But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

A single license is a single Installation.

    Hi proegge,

Some HP laptops have a switch on them to activate the wireless on and outside and they are not very obvious.  I would check that first.

You said that a help page will flash constantly?  When you are on this forum or you tell whenever you use the computer.  You see what the help page?

  • Flash player 10 does not work on windows vista sp2, any NPSWF files found in the system as well

Hi, I use windows vista, downloaded flash player 10 several times but it will never work.

just updated to SP2 today after reading the other popular solution here, but it still will not work.

I use IE 8, went to C:/windows/system32/c:\windows\system32\macromed/flash on my computer but it

is not NPSWF files at all.

    There are those I have flash10e.ocx install.log, flashUtil10e.exe, uninstall_activeX.exe

and trust flashplayer with rpconverter.ctg in her file.

Please help me with this, thanks a lot!

Hi candy, happy you found that Shockwave Flash Object, it works with Flash files and is very important

NPSWF files you said aren't there, those who are for the browser Firefox or Chrome or any other browser. If you use Firefox and you want the Flash Player to do this, close all your browsers if you are looking only at your office.

Click on the Flash Player for Firefox installer and save it on your desktop. Then run it from your desktop, and after it is finished installing, restart your computer.

Then using Firefox go to the plug-ins and find a SWF vs 10.0.45.2 and make sure that this option is enabled. It's like the Shockwave Flash for Internet Explorer object, but it is one that works with Firefox.

I would like to know if this is what you wanted to do. If you do not use Firefox, but Chrome or any other browser, this will work for that one also.

If you do not use another browser, then do this. I have just thot maybe that you did and that is why you were concerned that the NPSWF files were not there.

    Thank you

  • Qosmio F30 - 112 - DVD player can read and burn DVDs

    Hey everybody!

Here's the problem: my DVD-ROM won't read some DVDs, it does not burn. In Nero when it start burning error pop up and the message is: Power calibration error

I tried with all the testers for writer and reader of alerady and they all did not find any problem. They said that the recorder and player work properly. I even reinstalled twice end it always shows me this error and it will not burn or read some DVD Windows Vista (which I tried to read another computer and there is no problem). I tried to clean it with cleaning and nothing.

I think that this problem started since I've updated the firmwire F103, but I do not know...

    Help please.

    Hello!

Was the update of the firmware of your CD/DVD drive or have you another one? In my view, the drive could be faulty due to a bad firmware

But before you exchange the drive, you should try to remove the upper and lower filters in the Windows registry:
    (1) start Regedit (start-> Run-> Regedit)
    2) go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    (3) in the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key and delete the key "LowerFilters".
    (4) restart.

    Good bye

Error code 80242FFF when you try to install security update Cumulative for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista (KB2699988)

I've read other discussions on error code 80242FFF.  Based on suggestions from Microsoft technical support, I tried Mncrosoft Fixit.  Also, I started my computer in mode safetboot and tried to update.

They did not work.  So, will you be able to help me find a solution?

    Thank you

    Ken

    Hello

    1. is that the copy of windows is enabled?

2 is the issue limited to the installation of a security update Cumulative for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista (KB2699988)?

I suggest to perform the steps in the following article and check.

Method 1: run the Windows update troubleshooting tool and check.

The problem with Microsoft Windows Update is not working http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/

Method 2: I suggest you to put the computer in a clean boot state and check if Windows update installs successfully.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • Windows Vista is really a power hog?

Well my laptop is running Windows XP service pack 3, but I'm looking at upgrading to a newer Windows operating system. I am interested in Vista because it's a cheaper option then 7 but many people said that it is a resource hog and has many problems to be worth buying. Is it really true or is it all lies?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-AU/Windows-Vista/products/system-requirements

Read the above MS recommended configuration.

The RAM should be at least 2GBs for reasonable access the speed of your system.

    1 GB is too little.

But, you can also try Readyboost, if you have only about 1 GB of RAM.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial136.html

Windows ReadyBoost allows Vista to use the compatible USB flash drives as a cache instead of the hard drive. It is faster because it has been shown that the small random reads and writes on flash RAM may be 8 to 10 times faster than the caching to one of your hard drives. To really take advantage of this new feature, Microsoft suggests that you provide enough space on aflash player for ReadyBoost so that you are in at least a physical 1:1 with your RAM installed report.

    Read the above info.

And in the configuration required in 1 link at the top of the answer to thie, notice the increased graphics that are required in Vista compared to XP

    Hope the above helps.
